YOUNG, Helen Whitelaw Marshall – 1923-2013.  In her 91st year Helen passed peacefully at Caressant Care Nursing Home, Woodstock on Sunday, July 14, 2013.  Helen was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and served in the RAF in WWII in several locations including Wick, Scotland and London, England.  She met and married Peter “Sandy” Young in London in 1948 and came to Canada as a war bride in 1949.  The newlyweds initially lived in Calgary, Alberta before settling in Southern Ontario in the 1960’s and finally in 1971 Woodstock became their permanent home.  Helen and Peter were active in both the local Lions Club and the Humane Society.  They had several pets which were loved and spoiled.  They enjoyed camping in Golden Lake, Ontario during the summers and travelled to several cities both in the U.S. and Canada.  After Peter passed in 1988, Helen continued to travel on her own.  Unfortunately health issues in recent years curtailed both her travelling and shopping adventures.  She was a unique personality, a true sturdy Scottish lass, who did not hesitate to speak her mind on any and all subjects.  Her niece Sharon, would like to thank the caring and patient staff of Caressant Care Nursing Home whose consistent attempts to make Helen comfortable right up until her last days were greatly appreciated. Other friends whose assistance was invaluable to Helen and Sharon both before and after she went into care are Kim and Bill Knott, Marie McGovern, as well as Helen’s longtime neighbour and friend, Ib Neilson.  Helen is survived by her brother Gordon Marshall and his family in Staffordshire, England, her sister-in-law Anne Ledden (Young) of Wasaga Beach, Ontario and many nieces and nephews on the Young side of the family.    There will be a private family service.  If desired, memorial donations to the Ontario S.P.C.A. would be appreciated and may be arranged through the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, Woodstock, (519) 537-3611. Personal condolences may be sent at
