Loved Aunt of Mary Abumeeiz (Tahil) of Windsor, Lazaros Sofikitis (Tiziana) of Tecumseh, Jim Hatzis (Toula) of Leamington. Pagona was born in Kranidi Argolidas, Greece on March 24, 1952 to the late Lazaros and Maria Sofikitis. She immigrated to Canada on October 24, 1969 and married Christos in 1971. She worked for General Motors and was a proud member of CAW Local 195. She was a dedicated church go-er at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church and Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Detroit and an active member of the Windsor Greek Community and “O Morias” Peleponnese Society of Windsor. She had a warm heart and always had an “open house” for everyone. She enjoyed treating everyone to her traditional baking and welcomed all with open arms, a genuine smile…and a pinch. Of Carmarthen, Wales passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 25th, 2012 at the age of 90 at the Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Beloved wife of the late Granville (Glan) Hughes, devoted mum to her only son David and loving mother-in-law to Anna Piazza of Toronto, Canada. Born and raised in PEI, Canada Shirley moved to Wales in 1946 after the war and lived there until February 2012 when she returned to Canada to move into a retirement home after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Shirley loved to travel and see new places but most of all she loved to get home to Canada. Donations, if desired, to the Alzheimer’s Society. Loving daughter of Maria (1991) and Joseph (1946) Aluia. Cherished and devoted Mother to Sandra and the late Mark Rotondi (2003), Linda and Wayne Onstwedder, Dennis and Christine Corrado, and Robert and Andrea Corrado. Adored Nonna to Robert, Sherri, Stephanie, Eric, Sarah, Kristen, Nicholas, Maranda, Jaclyn, and Brandon. Special friend to Ernie Del Pup and Kaitlyn Sheehan. Mary was tremendously warm hearted and her entire life revolved around her children and grandchildren. She was truly the heart of our family and left a lasting impression on all those who were blessed to meet her. As we carry on our journey we will always honour her and follow in her footsteps. Mary was an active member of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and although she faced many obstacles in life, she inspired us by continuously maintaining a positive, strong attitude. A special thank you to the staff on the fourth, fifth and sixth floors at Windsor Regional Hospital Metropolitan Campus for their wonderful care. The transcendent, compassionate staff, doctors, nurses, support workers and volunteers at The Hospice Resident Home made her last few days comfortable and provided a dignified experience for Mary and her family. Predeceased by Clarice, Corinne Chandler, Bernadette (Sister Regina OSU), Marie Burns, Alida Coughlin, Eugene, Annabelle Laframboise, Alphonse, Frank, and Jack and Gerald. Sister-in-law of Rosemary, Mary Ellen, Patricia (George Sinclair), David Marcotte (Patricia), Philip Marcotte (Elizabeth) and the late Paul (Rose)(Doreen). Aunt to almost one hundred nieces and nephews. Pauline was a graduate of the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing but devoted her life to raising her family and supporting her husband Jerry of the Marcotte Funeral Home in Tecumseh where they raised their family of seven. Pauline enjoyed the friendship of many as she raised funds for the missions (Caritas Mission Group), participated in Faith and Sharing groups, C.W.L., and enjoyed family picnics, playing bridge and entertaining. She gifted many with her découpage and crafts. Special thanks to the Sisters of St. Joseph and the wonderful staff for welcoming her to their Care Centre one year ago. Passed away peacefully on December 22, 2012 at the age of 88. Beloved wife of Stan (2004). Predeceased by her parents Peter and Eva Brochert. Loving mother of Peter (Mary) and Paul. Cherished grandmother of Michael (Jenna), Julia Hillock (Adam), David (Christina) and Ashley. Sister of Eva Schwindt (Ernst), sister-in-law of Aldo Marchini and Theresa Brochert, and predeceased by brother Joseph Brochert. Mom loved being with family, and had a special bond with Mary’s parents Majda and Stanley Bah (2010), who often travelled with her and dad to Florida. A special thank you to her caring friends at Yorktown Condominium, especially Norma O’Shea who was at her side to the very end. A heartfelt thanks to her wonderful niece Debbie Brochert for her loving care of mom. If you so desire, donations to the Hospice of Windsor would be appreciated by the family. Peacefully laid to rest on December 20, 2012 at the age of 74 at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital on the Intensive Care Unit.  Predeceased by his mother Beatrice Meade and father Thomas Richard Lowe and brother Leslie Lowe. Loving father of Ericka and Renee Lowe, daughters of Lynette Pierre his devoted ex wife.  Treasured grandpa of Khalib Lowe.  Evans will be sorrowfully missed by his brothers and sisters Robert, John, Sarah, Cynthia and Ina.  Evans will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.  Evans was a proud employee of Syncrude Canada Ltd. for 14 years and retired in 1994. Special great-grandmother to Shannen, Erika, Owen, Jordan, Benjamin, Andrew, Victoria, Mara and Graham. Dear daughter to the late Dr. James Wilbert Brien and Josephine (Staples) Brien. Dear sister to the late Dr. Francis (Frank) Brien husband to the late Mildred and Marguerite and Dr. Wilbert Brien husband to the late Ruth. Jane will be missed by her many nieces and nephews in Canada and England. Jane was a graduate from the University of Toronto, Victoria College in 1932 and the College of Education, Toronto 1933. Jane was a faculty member of Patterson Collegiate Institute 1934-1940, a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi since May 1937 and a member of Temple Baptist Church, now Banwell Community Church. Jane’s contributions continued, as most recently, she was a speaker at the Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Windsor. MAYER, Ella Marie (nee Gneiting), Kingsville

Born August 15, 1928 in Frickenhausen, Germany and passed away on December 22, 2012. She was the daughter of Jakob and Katharina Gneiting and the youngest of three children. Ella was baptized August 25, 1928 in the EvangelicalLutheranChurch in Frickenhausen and confirmed in the same church on March 15, 1942. In 1952, Ella immigrated to Canada and married Christian Mayer Jr. on July 5, 1952 in Kingsville, Ontario. They were blessed with three daughters, Angela, Helga and Kathy. Ella is predeceased by her husband, Christian (August 10, 1987) and still born son (September 1, 1968). She is also predeceased by her sister, Ilse Thumm and brother, Robert Gneiting.

Ella is survived by Angela and Arthur Voakes, Helga and George Kotulak and Kathy and Norman Klassen. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lyndee and John Codinha, Christopher and Melanie Voakes, Kathryn and Jamie Unrau, Mary Kotulak and Tyler Poulin, Jennifer and Georgie Kotulak and Christina and Nikolas Klassen and 2 great grandchildren, Zoey and Xavier Codinha.

Friends will be received at the C. Stuart Sykes Funeral Home, 91 Division St. S., Kingsville from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012.
