It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John on January 9, 2015 at the age of 88 years. Loving husband and best friend of Margaret (nee Kralovensky) for 67 years. Cherished father of Gary ( Christina) Ulicny and Gayle (John) Domarchuk. Adored grandfather of Brandon, Jack and Natalie. Dear brother of Andrew (Donna) Ulicny and William Ulicny and companion Marlene. Brother-in-law of Alfred (Pat) Kralovensky. John will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and other extended family. John retired from Chrysler Canada after 42 years of dedicated service as a tool maker. Johnny was a “good guy” who loved to work around the home and also an avid golfer yet better bowler. Peacefully passed away on January 8, 2014 at WRH – Ouellette Campus in his 90th year. Beloved husband of Elsie (nee Kondruk). They were to celebrate their 66th anniversary on January 29th. Loving father of Virginia (David) Genoway, Victoria (Samuel) Corken, Anthony (Stella) Blak, Valarie (Douglas) Gill, and Gregory (Angela) Blak. Cherished grandfather of Philip (Jodie) Genoway, Peter Genoway, Robert Genoway, Jenny (Jeff) Masselis, Peter (Zeinab) Blak, Julie Gill, Daniel Gill, Stefani Blak (fiancée Alex), Thomas Corken, Alex Corken, Alexander Blak, and Adam Blak. Very proud great grandfather of Jacob, Joshua, Benjamin, and future baby girl. Predeceased by his parents Peter and Victoria Blak; and his brothers Walter, Henry, Matthew, Alphonse, Victor, and sister Helen. He will also be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and friends. Peter is well known as the Patriarch of Blak’s Bakery at 1022 Langlois in Windsor. He was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Polish Church and also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Dean Wagner Assembly, 3rd Degree Council #1453. Peter was also a member of the Ontario Scarlett, Nobles & Ladies; the Moose Lodge; the Canadian & American Baker’s Association. He was also Vice President of the Polish Border City Club. Passed away peacefully at the age of 84 with her CCAC nurse by her side at Devonshire Retirement Residence-Crawford House, where she had been living for the last five years. In early morning, her companions were summoned to pray for the repose of her soul. Her devoted care giver, Ann Hansen, joined them. She is survived by her sister Sheila Hill (Dale), Joan Heino (Maurice), her sister in-law Betty Stewart (Rusty) and five generations of nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Cecilia Dutton and Donald Stewart, her brothers Bazil, Gerard, Donald (Rusty), Vincent, Joseph and her sister Diane Dorsey. Annette made her final vows in 1955 and acquired her teaching certificate in 1970. Annette will be remembered for her numerous talents; teaching, directing choirs, composing and directing operettas, short stories, plays for children and her lively paintings using a variety of media. She wrote and illustrated books on the Sacraments, and the story of Blessed Marie Rose Durocher, foundress of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. These books were popular in the Windsor and Essex County Catholic Schools. Her passion for Social Justice led her to involvement in a Drop-In Centre on Yonge Street in Toronto and the establishment of a home for single mothers in Peterborough, ON. In 1979, she returned to Windsor to care for her ailing mother. In 1985, she obtained an ESL certificate and taught English to local immigrants. While living at Peter Street, Annette volunteered at St. Francis School introducing drama and music to some junior classes. RaiNEW Dr. Prem Kumar Rai, 67, of Lakeshore, Ontario, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2015 surrounded by his family. Prem was born in Puttur, India. He was married to Dr. Veena K. Rai on October 21, 1973; they were happily married for 41 years. Prem graduated from Manipal Medical College. He received a diploma in Anaesthetics from the Royal College, United Kingdom, and subsequently his Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Psychiatry, Canada. Prem practiced Clinical Psychiatry in Windsor, Ontario for 26 years. He enjoyed travelling the world, golfing, watching cricket, gourmet dining and bonding with his puppy, Dobie. Prem is survived by his two children, Dr. Samhitha Rai and Dr. Greeshma Shetty and her husband Dr. Sanjay Shetty; his 2 grandchildren Sachin and Amani; and the rest of his relatives and friends. Peacefully passed at her home, surrounded by her loving family on January 9th, 2015. Devoted wife of Norman Calcutt. Proud mother of Tim (Catherine) Calcutt, Nancy (Rick) Kennedy and Jeff (Cathy) Calcutt. Cherished grandmother of 7 grandchildren and special great-grandmother of 5 great-grandchildren. Survived by her siblings Sheldon (Linda), Heather, Cindy (Rick), and Terry (Wendy). Phyllis will be sadly missed by her many friends and extended family.  Phyllis was a giving, loving woman who was devoted to her family. Visitation will be held at Denning Bros. CHARTRAND, RitaIt is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Rita Chartrand (nee Marie Rita Noëlla Chartrand) on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Ottawa General Hospital at the age of 75. Beloved wife of 53 years to Ron Chartrand, loving Mother to Robert and his wife Connie; dearest Grandmother to Joëlle of Ottawa. Rita is the daughter of the late Romeo Alfred Chartrand and Marie-Anne (Venne). She will be fondly remembered by siblings: Fernand (deceased) of Noëlville (Lucie, Paulette, Francine, Bernard, Vincent, Richard); Thérèse of Ottawa; Lionel (deceased) of Noëlville (Anne, Michael, Danny, Charlie, Giselle); Gérald and Irène of Kapuskasing (Estelle, Raymond, Chantal); Robert and Jane of Florida (Lisa, Bobby); and Gilles and Denise of Cochrane (Denis and Marc). Rita is the dear sister-in-law to Raymond and Hélène of Sudbury (Gilles, Julie, Ginette); Claude and Lorraine of Sudbury (Roxanne and Joanne); Claudette (deceased) of Sudbury; Bert and Bonnie of Windsor (Laura and Carrie); Marcel and Paulette of Azilda (Shawn and Michael); Bernie and Linda of Alban (Kenneth and Kyle); and Lise Chartrand Delarosbil and Jean Marc of Timmins (Alain and Josée).   Rita was born and raised in Noëlville, lived in Sudbury, and had a camp in Monetville on Lake Nipissing. Ron and Rita enjoyed many retirement years in West Palm Beach Florida. Rita was a professional and dedicated teacher for 37 years with the French Catholic School Board of Sudbury. Her passion for education and helping others was felt by many. Her most treasured times were those spent at camp with family and friends on Lake Nipissing in Monetville. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Cooperative Funeral Home on 222 Lasalle Blvd East Sudbury on Friday, January 2nd, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Paroisse L’Annonciation Church, Sudbury. Marlene was born in Windsor, Ontario on October 5, 1935 and passed away in Simcoe, Ontario on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the age of 79. Beloved wife of the late Jack (John McFadden) (2010) for over 50 years. Marlene is survived by her children Wendy McFadden-Smith (Brian), Kenneth McFadden (Eva) and Karen Fess (Randy). Loving grandma of Donavan (Victoria) and Lucas McFadden, Rachael and Sarah Smith, and Emily, Joshua and Jedd Fess. Recently, Marlene celebrated the birth of her first great-grandchild Everett John McFadden. Predeceased by her parents, Freeman and Laura Bastien. Dearest sister of the late Shirley VanLare, the late Norma Graveline, the late Garfield Bastien, Don Bastien (Bernice Goudreau), the late Ray Bastien, late Larry Bastien (Sharon), Jackie Tullo (Carlo) and Gil Bastien (Suzanne Quenneville). Marlene will be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Marlene attended Patterson Collegiate in the secretarial program. She worked in many local banks for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening and baking butter tarts for everyone. She was a devoted pet owner to her beagle (Benji) and enjoyed walking him and visiting with neighbors. Marlene and Jack spent many years traveling from coast to coast in their trusty motor home. The family of Marlene McFadden wishes to thank the staff of Anson Place in Hagersville, as well as the staff at Norfolk General Hospital for their care and compassion. 2015_01_08_12_03_21With sadness, the family of Archie Pedden announces his passing at University Hospital, London on Wednesday, January 7th, 2015 in his 90th year. Archie is the much loved husband of Dorothy (Topping) and mother of Carole Meyers (Robert). He is predeceased by his son, Archie L. (1993) (Brenda Pedden-Boyce). Survived by four grandchildren, Pam Breckles, Archie Pedden, Shelly Meyers and Kimberly Phillips (Chris) and eight great grandchildren. Survived by sister, Pearl Elliott and sisters-in-law Doris Denning (Bill) and Ruby Clark. Predeceased by sister Margaret Butler Jowett (2005) and brother-in-law Bud Clark (2012).   A life member of Beaver #83, Masonic Lodge and Beaver Chapter #74 in Strathroy and a member a Strathocha Shrine Club in Strathroy. Archie was to receive his 60 year Past Master pin from Beaver Lodge. He was a former member of the Ontario Agriculture Research Council and a life member of the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame Association.

 

Visitation will be held at Denning Bros. Funeral Home on Friday, January 9th, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 pm. Interment Strathroy cemetery.

 

A Masonic service will be held on Friday at 4 pm under the auspices on Beaver Lodge # 83 A.F & A.M.
