It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Windsor Regional Hospital at the age of 88. Predeceased by his dear wife of 52 years Frances (2001). Loving father of Catherine and husband Bob Hind, Anne and husband Don Margiewicz (Grindstone City, MI), Colleen Zulian (Charlie, 2004) and Dan Tierney. Cherished and adored Granddaddy of Catherine (Rod), Heather, Kate (Nathan), Kelly (Jon), Matthew (Nicole), Shannon, Ken, Jacqueline (Sebastian), Peter, Rebecca (Andrew), Patrick, Anthony and Olivia. Great-Granddaddy to Victoria, Jacob, Andrew, Reese, Grace, Gus, Madeline and John. Also predeceased by his parents Patrick Joseph (P.J., the old man from Dublin) Tierney and Helen and Joe Smith, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Survived by sister-in-law Sheila and Ken McCutcheon (Halifax) and multiple nieces and nephews. Charlie was a proud Nova Scotian and a man of faith and substance. He delighted in the beauty of everyday life and all of God’s creations and taught us all to have an attitude of gratitude. He was famous for his many quotes and sayings, including, “Life is astounding,” “You’re lookin’ good dear,” and “Isn’t that lovely?” He was known for tipping his hat. Actually, Dad wore many hats – he was a war vet, he sorted the mail on the trains for Canada Post, was a customs officer at Pier 21 in Halifax, then worked for Customs Excise Canada. He then “retired” – to go on to work for several more years for the Law Courts of Nova Scotia. In 1994, he moved back to Windsor to be with his family that he often referred to as his “large blanket of love.” We’d like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Aspen Lakes Nursing Home, the ER staff and sixth floor staff at Windsor Regional Hospital and all of our extended family and friends for support. If you so desire, donations in Charlie’s memory to Alzheimer’s Society of Windsor and Essex County or the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Visiting Sunday 7-9 p.m., Monday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Parish Prayers Monday 4:30 p.m. Funeral Tuesday 10 a.m. from FAMILIES FIRST 1065 Lauzon Rd. East Windsor (519-969-5841) to St. Vincent de Paul Church (2015 Balfour Blvd.) for Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Fr. Andy Dwyer officiating. Interment Heavenly Rest Cemetery. P.S. Dad, thanks for convincing Mom/Nanny to marry you, even though you asked her after only the third date.
