Conway, Muriel “Peggy” (nee Hedden)

Posted by on November 5, 2014

web_conway murielThe family of Muriel (Peggy) Conway is heartbroken to announce her passing, at Hospice Village, on Tuesday November 4, 2014 at 86 years of age.

Peggy was the wife of the late Russell Conway for 64 years, and the most awesome mother of Maureen and late husband Davis Dean, and the late Paul Conway and his wife Joanne. She has two beautiful grandchildren, Jamie Conway and Keegan Dean.

Our mom had a quick sense of humour, loved a good laugh, and was very kind. She was a longtime volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Society, Glenwood United Church, and Meals on Wheels. Besides being very passionate about her two children and making us sit up straight and read the newspaper every night, our mom had huge passion for golf, golf, and more golf. She was a longtime contract bridge player, and was very proud to earn her Life Master designation in 1991.

There were countless hours spent walking around Massey Track with her walking buddies, and many miles racked up walking with us anywhere her feet would take her. She loved her water aerobics friends at Lifestyle Family Fitness, and was a long suffering fan of the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Maple Leafs. Our parents did alot of travelling in their retirement, and had lots of fun on their golf trips and visits to Europe.

Many wonderful people supported our family through this Annus Horribilus and they couldn’t all possibly be named here. The Angels at Hospice will never be forgotten. You truly do God’s work, bless all of you. To mom’s ‘girls’ at Amica….many thanks. Noah, you know who you are. You rocked.

A wise person told me to hold fast to what was anchored down. That would be our friends, without whom none of us would have survived this year. You lifted our family up and kept us afloat when we were in danger of drowning. Not a single act of your kindness will ever be forgotten. Thank you, thank you.

Peggy could not have tolerated people ‘crying and carrying on’ at her funeral, and therefore requested that she not have one. Instead, she wanted a party where people would be laughing and talking, two of her favourite passtimes. She has been cremated and her remains will be interred alongside our father in Dunnville Ontario, where their long journey together both started and will end.

An invitation to party is warmly extended to all who befriended, cared for, or wish they had known, our mother. Please come with a funny story or memory of Peggy to add to our Memory Book. Please join us at the Squirrel Cage Restaurant, 1 Maiden Lane, in Windsor from 5 to 7 pm on Sunday November 9 (519-252-2243). Peggy would not approve if there were tears.

If you desire, memorial donations to the Hospice Residential Homes would be gratefully appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Families First 3260 Dougall Ave. South Windsor, 519-969-5841 Share memories, photos or make a donation at www.FamiliesFirst.ca

And I promise to buy the best shoes I can afford. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Turner, Margaret Guinevere (nee Murphy)

Posted by on November 1, 2014

On November 1, 2014 at the age of 98 years, Margaret was reunited with Bob (1997) her beloved husband of 62 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters; Barbara Adam (Gene), Gayle Toop (Dave), and Karen Marentette (Bob), her 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren, her siblings Ken Murphy (Isobel), Bill Murphy (Ronnie), Betty St. John (late Russ), sister-in-law Betty Turner (late Stan) and many nieces and nephews. There was a special place in her heart for her god-children Sharlene Peladeau and Sandy Potts. She was predeceased by her son—in-law George Adam (2001), infant sister Stella and Bob’s 8 brothers and sisters. Margaret was born in Dalton-In-Furness, Lancashire, England, coming to Canada at the age of two years with her parents William Murphy Sr. and Evelyn (Roberts) Murphy and sister Stella. She lived much of her life in various cities and towns through-out Ontario and Michigan. Finally she settled permanently in Windsor, ON where she met Bob, married, and together raised their 3 daughters. When her daughters were old enough, she realized her dream of working in the medical field, first as a volunteer, then as a nurses aid, lab clerk and retired as an EKG technician. She then volunteered her services to the Girl Guides of Canada as a Leader; District Commissioner and Commandant of Camp Bosanquet (Forest, Ontario). Mom enjoyed her last 15 years residing at Oak Park Terrace where she engaged in various activities with her new found friends. She was very well cared for by all the staff in this, her last home. We, her children, would like to thank the many people who cared for mom over the years especially Susan, Ellen, Patti and Joanne. A special thanks also goes to the St. Elizabeth Care Givers, who helped mom mornings and evenings over the last 3 years. Mom was an inspiration to all of us. Her life was well lived. If you so desire, donations to Hospice of Windsor or the Make a Wish Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Visiting on Tuesday from 3-5 & 7-9 pm at Families First, 1065 Lauzon Rd., East Windsor, 519-969-5841. On Wednesday, family and friends are invited to meet at Most Precious Blood Church, 1947 Meldrum Rd. after 10 am followed by Mass at 11am. Interment Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
