It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our son and brother, Jordan Ian Whitehead, after a courageous battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Jordan’s bright and beautiful spirit was freed from his ailing body at the age of 23 early in the morning on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Vancouver General Hospital while surrounded by family.

Jordan was the youngest of three children, born on September 7, 1993 in Nanaimo, BC. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Dorothy Whitehead; and his beloved dog, Sparky. Jordan is survived by his parents, Ian and Diane (Hendrickson) Whitehead; sister, Melanie (Hendrickson) Guenther; brother, Ryan Whitehead; maternal grandparents, Keith and Anne Hendrickson; his cat, Oz; and a shitload of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Jordan’s favorite sayings were “Blargh” and Rooster Teeth quotes, such as “I will eat your unhappiness”. Favorite songs, Spread Your Wings by Queen and Its My Life by Bon Jovi. Favorite shows, Star Wars and Game of Thrones. He loved chicken strips, anything peachy, the Discovery Channel, and the anime and manga franchise Naruto. He would often make up his own words and songs that usually only made sense to him. He enjoyed activities such as family poker games, listening to Rooster Teeth podcasts, playing online games with his brother, attending Camp Squamish, Pax11, Vancouver Canucks games and staying at Canuck Place. Jordan despised peas, heights and being poked. He also thought babies were weird.

Jordan was a unique and caring individual who touched the lives of all that knew him. He was the kind of young man that anyone would be proud to call son, brother, grandson, and friend. Even in his final moments, he was a model of strong will and sheer determination. We will miss his keen sense of humor, silly songs, his ability to tell it like it is and his beautiful blue eyes.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 7 (12:00 – 3:00 p.m.) in the North Shore Ballroom of the Holiday Inn & Suites, located at 700 Old Lillooet Rd, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following charities in Jordan’s name.

• Muscular Dystrophy Canada
• Canuck Place Children’s Hospice
• Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy
