Peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2014, following a long struggle with cancer, surrounded by family, at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia. Duncan McLean White, for 47 years the loving friend and husband of Patricia Angela (Foster) White.
Duncan was born on June 17, 1942 in Noranda, Quebec. He grew up in and around the Sarnia, Ontario area and called The Village of Point Edward his home for the past 47 years.
Dear father of Darin White (Lisa Milsom) and David White, and proud grandpa of Arden, Calder, Alexandria, and Somerton, all of Waterloo. He was close to his brother, Derek White, and his nieces Kari Durco and Cheryl White. Also deeply missed by the Haig family: Georgina, Steve, Kaycee and Jamie. Duncan received his BBA degree from Western Michigan University and worked his entire career in transportation and logistics in the petrochemical industry in Sarnia, serving customers and friends across the eastern United States and Canada.
Besides his sweetheart, Pat, the love of Dunc’s life was his 1949 Chevrolet pickup truck. He loved that truck, driving it around the village, hauling loads for his sons, and roaming far and wide to attend antique truck shows. His love of photography and machines opened many opportunities including trips on lake freighters and parade-driving farm equipment.
Duncan was always happiest talking with friends and family. He maintained a vast number of strong friendships ranging across North America, diligently touching base with people and never forgetting a birthday. We remember with great fondness the patio parties, chats in the garage, coffee shop banter, and adventurous trips. Duncan always wanted to make someone’s day better.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, with family and friends being received one hour prior to the service.
