SANTAROSSA: Bill of Dutton, Ontario

Suddenly, at his home in Dutton, Ontario, Bill Santarossa at the age of 62.  Bill is survived by his mother Shirley Santarossa (Connor) and predeceased by his father Andy Santarossa.  Bill was a well known and well respected businessman in West Elgin.  He was the proud owner of Santarossa Shooting Sports, now in it’s 20th year.

He was a special part of the Reive and Vanoverbeke families and his long time pal Ken Laframboise.

He will be dearly missed by many friends, colleagues and hunting camps.

Visitation will be held at DENNING’S OF WEST LORNE on Friday, April 13th, 2018 from 5 – 9 pm and Saturday, April 14th, 2018 from 12 – 2 pm followed by a funeral service at 2 pm.  This will be a casual affair and you are invited to dress as such.

Interment to follow at McColl cemetery.

GLENN, MARJORY – At St. Joseph’s Hospice on Sunday, February 4, 2018, Marjory Bertha (Campbell) Glenn, age 96 of Sarnia passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Ross Logie Glenn (1999) and dear mother of Sandra Stuchberry (Fred), David Glenn (Janet) and Kathryn Glenn. She was the loving grandmother of Mary Clemens (David), Jeff Stuchberry (Angie), Paul Stuchberry (Rachel), Jennifer Mackey (Robert), Brenda Lea (Tim) and Julie Sousa (Steven) and great-grandmother of Tavis, Rachel, Gabriela, Emily, Megan, Sarah, Kate, Violet, Nicholas and Spencer. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Marjory was predeceased by her parents, four sisters and a brother. She was a special friend to many people. Marjory was born in Ridgetown in 1921 and was a resident of Sarnia since 1941. She was a member of Paterson Memorial Presbyterian Church and the ESSO Annuitants Association. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations made in memory of Marjory to the Kidney Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis or St. Joseph’s Hospice would be appreciated by the family. The arrangements have been entrusted to the D. J. Murray, Frances Beatty of Sarnia

Frances Beatty Murray passed away peacefully on Monday January 8, 2018 at Sumac Lodge in Sarnia at the age of 98. She was the dear wife of the late John David “Bunt “Murray, beloved mother of  John “JD” Murray and of Ann Ino, husband Alan and loving grandmother of Chris Hartford, Melissa Hartford and Robert Ino. “Gee” as she was affectionately known, was a lifelong residence of Sarnia and was a committed volunteer in her community. She was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and the woman’s organization I.O.D.E. Gee was loved for her sweet easy going disposition, and quick laugh. In addition, she was well regarded for her amazing cooking and baking skills. Over the years, family and friends alike enjoyed Gee’s homemade bread, homemade pies and memorable Sunday roast beef dinners. My brother and I would like to thank the staff at Sumac Lodge for their wonderful care of our mother over these last years. A memorial service will be held at D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia, ON, N7T 5W9 on February 8th, 2018 at 12:00 noon. BLACK, Evelyn Ferne (neé Young)
Passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Welland General Hospital at age 87. Beloved wife of William Grant Black for 65 years. Loving mother of Grant Eaton Black (Suzu Speich), Kerry Phyllis Black (Rodney Mitchum) and David William Black. Proud grandmother of Maureen Elizabeth Black, Stuart Alan Black, Heather Andrea Black and Scott William Black. Predeceased by her parents, Abraham and Carrie Young and her brothers, Carl Young and Donald Young. Evelyn was born and raised in Port Colborne. She married her high school sweetheart, Grant, in 1952. Evelyn was a teacher and Grant was a teacher and principal with the Niagara South Board of Education for many years. They moved to Fonthill where Evelyn stayed at home for 10 years to raise their three children before she returned to teaching. Evelyn and Grant travelled to Britain, Europe, Alaska, and numerous Caribbean islands. They also enjoyed spending time at the various waterfront cottages in Niagara that they owned over the years. After retirement, Evelyn and Grant spent winters at their condo near Clearwater, Florida and traveled often until Evelyn’s health precluded those activities.
Family and friends will be received at the JAMES L. PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill on Monday, December 4th between 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 5th at 11:00 am at the funeral home followed by reception at Fonthill United Church, 42 Church Hill, Fonthill. Burial will take place following the reception at Oakwood Cemetery in Wainfleet. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

SHEPPARD, MARILYN – At St. Joseph’s Hospice on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, Marilyn June (Dougherty) Sheppard, age 84 of Sarnia passed away. She was the dear wife of the late Allan A. Sheppard and loving mother of daughter Ruth Gartlan (Martin Randall) and Step-Daughter Noreen Taylor (Paul) and daughter in laws Jane and Rosemary Sheppard, grandmother of Jennifer (Jamie), Heather (Kerry), Andrew (Amy), Mark (Melanie) and Rachel, great-grandmother of Caleb, Nathan, Alexis, Aiden, Juliana, Kyle and Amy. She is also survived by her sister Arlene Wright. Several nieces and nephews survive. She was predeceased by her Step-Sons Brian and David Sheppard, her sister and brother, Shirley and Ross Dougherty. Marilyn was a longtime member of Central United Church, the church choir and the Elizabeth II Chapter, IODE. She was a volunteer with the Children’s Aid Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society and Parkinson’s Canada. Marilyn enjoyed quilting, playing bridge, sewing, traveling with friends and family and spending her summers at the family cottage. Cremation will take place and a private interment will be held at Lakeview Cemetery. A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held later at Central United Church (220 George St., Sarnia, N7T 4N9). HARDY, RALPH – It is with profound sorrow and sadness, the family of Ralph Lynnsay Hardy, age 83, announces his passing at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Sunday, June, 18, 2017. He was best friend and partner for over 65 years with Daintry Adele McPhedran and loving father of Bruce Lynn Hardy (Georgina), Lonnie Lee Ostroski (Jack) and Scott Lyndsay Hardy (Annie), dear grandfather of Diego, Lindsey, Brent, Kendra, Kerri, Nicolas and Patrick, dear great-grand of Matias, Quinton, Isadora, Rowan, Shealon, Monroe, Mirren, Kennedy, Reese, Connor, Chloe and brother of Doris LeNeve (Jim) and Penny Viselka. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Thomas, Bruce, Bud (Allan) and his sister Mary Tobin. Ralph served with the 3rd Royal Canadian Horse Artillery for over 25 years and was a teacher at the School of Artillery. Quackenbush, Beverly Ann of Sarnia

QUACKENBUSH, BEVERLY ANN – Peacefully at Bluewater Health Palliative Care on Thursday, May 11th, 2017 with her loving family beside her.  Bev was born on September 11, 1951 in Kalamazoo, Michigan and her family moved to Brantford in 1956 where she attended Central School, Victoria & BCI.  Bev moved to Sarnia in 1970 to go to Lambton College.  She worked at Bayview Chrysler Dodge as a receptionist for years, Agriculture Canada, then on to Community Social Services, ODSP, President of Local #123 Sarnia OPSEU for 14 years. Bev was an avid volunteer with many local charities. Bev was predeceased by the love of her life, her hubby Bill Sr.  Bev is survived by her sons Bill Jr. and his wife Kimmarie, Don and his wife Kim, and her daughter Jen and her husband Kevin, grandchildren Desiree, Ashley, Chelsey, Jordan, Hailey, Ariana, Aliya, Jaxon and Cashius and two great grandchildren Cohan and Jack.  Also survived by her sisters Diane, Carol and Wayne Fowlie, brother Gord, niece Tammy and her husband Steven and their children Felicia (Jordan) and Jeffrey, and nephew Shonn.   Predeceased by her parents Gordon  (1990) & Joanne (2005), sisters Kathy (1985) and Vickie (2007).  Funeral services will be held at the D. DAVIES- LOIS EMELINE, (nee Henderson) of Sarnia, surrounded by her family passed away at Marshall Gowland Manor on February 12, 2017 at the age of 79. Beloved mother to Jim Davies (Lorie Ann), Doug Davies, Sue McGeachy (Dave) and Rick Davies (Wendy).  

Grandma to Brianna, Mike, Joshua, Caleb, Charity, Joel, Jewel, Shawna and Leah.   

Predeceased by, her husband Norman Davies (2000) and her sister Beryl Steadman. Lois was a long time employee at Polysar, she did so much with SMAA involvement, spent her time knitting, crafting and she was an avid teddy bear collector. Lois spent time in the garden and travelling with family and friends. She will always be remembered for her enormous generosity and her kind and gentle nature. The family would like to express their huge appreciation to the staff at Marshall Gowland Manor for their compassion and loving care for Lois during her stay there.

A Funeral service will be held at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (102 N. Victoria St., Sarnia) on February 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. William Steadman officiating. Visitation will take place on Thursday 16, 2017 between the hours of 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving Father and Papa at the age of 78 following a brief illness at Bluewater Health Hospital Sarnia on February 8th, 2017.  Predeceased by his loving wife Monique Stringer (Deslauriers) (2003).  Father to Richard (Donald), David (Sandra), Sandra (Tom), and Tim (Echo).  Cherished Papa and fishing buddy to Matthew, John, Joshua, Jacob, Kelsey (Kevin), and Connor.  Dear brother of John (Sheila), Gordon (Susan), and Brenda.  Predeceased by his parents John and Jemima (nee Jessup), brother Joseph (Evelyn) and his sister Wilma (Larry). He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Norm retired after many years of working in the Mining Industry.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family fishing and hunting.  This very kind and generous man will be greatly missed.

MOORE: RALPH, CARL OF SARNIA

RALPH CARL MOORE- passed away at Bluewater Health on January 24, 2017. A teenage farm boy from Moore’s lane grew to become a skilled tradesman and a proud member of Local 663. He served a term as president of both the Chamber of Commerce and the Sarnia Construction Association during his working years. He built the RABAR. Ralph was predeceased by his parents W.H. “Harry” and Reta (Haslip) Moore, his sister Trudy (Moore) Polak, and his elder son Ralph W. Moore. He was greatly loved by his wife Barbara ( Robinson) Moore and all his family: Brent Moore, son of Ralph’s elder son and Brent’s children Haley, Majofsky, Tala Moore and Brayden Moore; his son Dan,  wife Cheryl and sons Kevin and Mark; his daughter Bette (Moore) Woodley and her daughter Sarah Kell, who with her partner Jason Kell has just presented us with our latest addition, three month old Hunter; his daughter Lori (Moore) Zonneville and her daughters Erika (Melanie) and Rebecca and Becca’s two children Wayne and Aubrey. The Moore family stands tall together so we are sure Ralph will be long remembered and often spoken of by his brothers Gerald (Grace) and Charles “Chuck” (Suzanne, Deceased) and by his sisters Beverly Richards (Jim) and Linda Ryan (Doug). There will be a Celebration of Ralph’s life from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on February 4, 2017 at the D. J. Robb Funeral Home and Cremation Center, (102 Victoria St. N. He is survived by his loving wife Diane (Sawchuk) Drapotoy of Sarnia and mother- in- law Olga Kazina Sawchuk Luby of Beausejour, Manitoba.  John was a loving father to his son Jason John Drapotoy (Christina), and granddaughter Jenna Drapotoy, grandson Jacob Drapotoy. Dear dad to his daughter Dayna Lee (Drapotoy) Salisbury (Rick), and grandson Shane Salisbury and grandson Curtis Salisbury. Survived by his only brother William Drapotoy (Sharon) of White Fox, Saskatchewan and sister- in-law Myrtle Sawchuk Novakoski  (Rudy) of Tyndall, Manitoba, sister- in- law Pauline Sawchuk Thorarinson (Arnie) of Tyndall, Manitoba, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and good friends. John is predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary Drapotoy of Beausejour, Manitoba, and father-in-law John Sawchuk and step father-in-law Bill Luby.

                                                            John was born, raised, and married in Beausejour, Manitoba.

He moved to Ontario in 1972 to work for the Operators union in Toronto. After an early retirement, he owned and operated a small topsoil business in Sarnia for about 10 years. His final years were filled with family activities and his beloved dog “Skippy”. Also, fun times line dancing with our good friends and playing cards at the Strangway center.

Cremation has taken place and at this time there will be no memorial Service but a “Celebration of Life” will be announced at a much later date.

In John’s memory, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation which would be greatly appreciated by the family.

portePeacefully at Bluewater Health ROBERT “WAYNE” PORTE passed away, at age 65. Dear

brother of Geoff (Liz), Frances (Don), Judy (Jack- deceased)  and Michael (Linda). Wayne leaves behind three sons; Levon, Ryan and John

He will also be missed by his friends, nieces and nephews. Wayne is predeceased by both his parents Connie and Irwin “Mickey” Porte. Poetry was Wayne’s life and he also loved fishing, the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service in Sault Ste. Marie at a later date.

“Open up the doors to heaven I’m taking the journey home I’ve talked to my creator and now I’m free to roam.”

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice this would be appreciated by the family.

Gunter, Joanne Marie – peacefully, surrounded by family at Hospice Prince Edward on Monday, October 3, 2016 in her 72nd year.  Daughter of Myrtle Edwards (nee Feere) and the late Gordon Edwards.  Loving mother of Carey Gunter and Kim Gunter (Steve) both of Belleville.  Proud grandmother of Garrett Watt of Belleville.  Joanne is survived by her sisters, Sharon Lee of Toronto and Deb (Steve) Tulloch of Waterloo and by her brother, Jim (Dora) Edwards of Barrie.  She is predeceased by her sister, Donna Tenthorey (the late George Tenthorey).  Joanne will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, 30 Moira Street West, Belleville (613-968-2273) on Thursday, October 6th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 11:30 until the time of service.  Cremation has taken place.

FRY: Karren Ann of Vancouver Formerly of Ontario

images-4It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Karren Ann Fry. Karren passed away in her home on June 13, 2016. 

Karren was was born to Alan (2013) and Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Fry on December 12, 1976 at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria B.C.  After an early life in British Columbia, Karren’s family moved to Ontario where she completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours in Criminology from Windsor University in Ontario, which led to her working with RCMP in the student program as a young adult.  She eventually moved to Vancouver BC where she married Cary De Best and had her beautiful daughter, Leah.  In time, Karren ventured out on her own and worked as a support worker for adults with mental illness.
 
Karren was a loving mother, dedicated family member and a good friend. Her raw sincerity, infectious laugh, sense of humour and amazing spirit made her a joy to be around. She would brighten anyone’s day with a caring message of support or a ridiculous story.  

Karren was a sincere Buddhist and loved travelling to international Dharma Festivals with her brother for teachings and inspiration.  Special powa ceremonies were performed for Karren by Gen Kelsang Thekchen and friends at Kadampa Mediation Centre Vancouver on June 20th, 2016, As well by her Teacher and friend Gen Kelsang Delek and many others.

Karren enjoyed nature and would find peace during a long walk with her daughter in the parks that line the beautiful coast of Vancouver.  She especially loved animals and adored her two little boy cats Thomas (T-Dawg) and Sammy. 

Her family, friends, and all those she touched will miss her tremendously. Karren is survived by her beautiful and loving daughter, Leah De Best (Cary); Her Mother Elizabeth and grandmother Nelda Sauer; her uncles Jim, Ron, Tom, Doug and her Aunt Ellen; her brother Jeff Fry (Devon) and niece Lexa; and her sister Leanne Fry. 
 

There will be a a celebration of life on July 2nd, 2016 from 11:00am – 2:00pm at St. James Community Centre, 3214 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver B.C.

photoPeacefully, at Craigwiel Gardens on Saturday, August 27, 2016, Hannah Susan Johnson Pray of Ailsa Craig and formerly of Dunnville passed at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence Johnson (1978) and the late Bill Pray (1998).  Hannah will be dearly missed by her children, Kathy (Mel) Winger of Centralia, Rick (Roxann) Johnson of Dunnville, Cindy (David) Cooper of Welland, Terry (Darlene, 2013) of Brantford & Dan (Darla) Johnson of Dunnville.  A loving Grandma to 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held at DENNING’s OF AILSA CRAIG on Monday, August 29th, 2016 from 1-3 pm and 6 -7 pm.

gibersonweb1It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of WAYNE GIBERSON, age 72 of Petrolia and formerly of Sarnia Sarnia on Sunday, August 7, 2016.  Lovingly remembered by step-daughters Brenda Brodimas and her husband George of Sarnia and Jill Arnold and her husband David of Bright’s Grove. Also sadly missed by his grandchildren; Lee, Alicia (Rick), Wayne (Rebecca) and Britney (Chris) and three great grandchildren; Jason, Mya and James. Also survived by his brother Earl Giberson. Predeceased by his parents Hilton and Eileen Giberson and brother Hilton. Wayne donated his endless time and efforts to many community organizations and events including being a founder of the Bluewater Anglers  and Ducks Unlimited, Sarnia Chapter. Wayne was also a member of First Hussars C Squadron  and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 68. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at the D. J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE on Thursday, August 11, 2016 between the hours of 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Private interment of ashes will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Margaret Cooper, 98, of Waterdown, died peacefully on Monday July 18, 2016 supported by her family, the centre of her life, at St. Peter’s Hospice in Hamilton Ontario. Margaret Elizabeth Douglas was born on January 25, 1918 in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Vera Douglas, her siblings Katherine, Evelyn, and Sholto Douglas, and her husband Craig Cooper. She is survived by her children Ian (Catherine) Cooper, Jane (Dick) Toews, Peter Cooper, and stepdaughter Elizabeth Salton, and by much-loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren across Canada and overseas. Her nieces and nephews and their families in the UK and elsewhere have maintained a loving connection with her over the years. As family, we treasure the many memories of her life; a life well and fully lived, with loving support offered to the end. A Visitation will be held at KITCHING STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown, on Friday, August 5, 2016 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. All are welcome to join family and friends in a Celebration of Margaret’s Life at GRACE ANGLICAN CHURCH, 157 Mill St. N., Waterdown, on Saturday August 6, 2016 at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow in the church hall.
