After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Lovica “Vi” Weirmier, of Chesley, passed away at SBGHC, Chesley on Tuesday, August 27, 2013.
She was 78.
Born on December 19,1934 in Burnt River, Ontario, Vi moved from Berkton, Ontario to marry her husband Clayton in 1955. Together they raised five children on their farm in Bentinck Township. A long time volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society, attended St. John’s Lutheran Church, Elmwood and was a member of the Louise Women’s Institute for over fifty years.
Survived by children Paul (Angie) Weirmier of Nestleton, Wayne Weirmier of Elmwood, Elizabeth Yuke of Hanover, Murray (Marnie) Weirmier of Shelburne, Heather (Trevor) Fraleigh of Wallaceburg, grandchildren Glen, Steven, Julie and Jennie Weirmier, Devin (Joanna) Yuke, Aaron, James, Meaghan and Jacob Weirmier, Kayla and Daniel Fraleigh. Treasured greatgrandchildren Alexander and Jaiden. Also missed by her brother Robert Hanthorn and sisters Merriel Burke, Gloria Smith, Helen Sheehan, Aisla Voss and Leona Browning. She will be missed by her dog Neeka. Predeceased by her husband Clayton Weirmier, grandson Tyler Yuke, brother Keith Hanthorn and sister Marjorie Knapp.
Visitation was held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Friday, August 30, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11:00 am, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Elmwood. Rev. Hannes Aasa officiated.
Interment in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Bentinck Township.
Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Elmwood were appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
