Passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Wednesday July 16, 2014. He was born to the late Paul John (Pat) and Gertrude Walsh (Dufort), Feb. 26, 1933 in Toronto, Ontario. Paul attended Ridley College and UTS for high school. He received his Doctor of Ophthalmology from the University of Western Ontario where he swam for the varsity team and graduated class of ’57. Paul completed his residency at the Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. He was a member of the American College of Physicians and Surgeons. Paul married Jane Adele Roelofson in 1955 and soon after started a successful practice in Barrie, Ontario while living in the adjoining lakeside village of Shanty Bay on Lake Simcoe. In Barrie Paul served as Chief of Staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Throughout his career Paul and Jane travelled extensively while volunteering for Care Medico as an Ophthalmologist (Paul) and an operating nurse (Jane). In their travels they worked in Afghanistan, Algeria, Indonesia, Nigeria and Pickle Lake. His favorite activities were tennis, downhill skiing, sailing and intellectual studies. His favorite times were with his family and friends. Paul is survived by his loving wife Jane, four children: Jenny (Bob) McIntosh, Pat Walsh, Chris (Kim) Walsh and Sandy Walsh, and nine grandchildren : Robin, Cassandra, Jackie, Ryan, Jayme, Shannon, Emma, Ben and Paul – as well his many dear friends whose lives he enriched. The family will receive friends at a Gathering on Wednesday, July 23 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Adams Funeral Home, 445 St Vincent Street, Barrie, Ontario.
