WALLACE, Joyce Thornton: at Hastings Manor, Belleville on August 15, 2013. Born in Regina, SK., on July 10, 1915, the 5th daughter of the late Agnes Savigny VanEvery and Louis Augustus Thornton. Joyce is survived by her sons George and Brian Wallace, granddaughter Jamie, sister Eleanor Palmer and brother Rev. Lou Thornton. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, and sisters Agnes, Marion, Catherine and Constance. A graduate of the School of Nursing at Toronto Sick Children’s Hospital in 1937, she began a promising career in nursing in Regina until the outbreak of WW2. There she shipped overseas to work in Italy as a nursing sister to the Canadian troops of the Italian campaign for whom she felt an affection and admiration all her life. On returning to England, she met and married the love of her life, Lt. Col. Jack Wallace, on June 2, 1945. He predeceased her on June 9, 2009. Joyce was an avid skier, golfer, singer, and expert homemaker. She will be remembered for her warm hospitality in residences at Lac Marois in the Laurentians, in Montreal, in London, ON. and in Sugar Mill, Fla. Her cheerful smile will be missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of her life will be held at Steele Funeral Home, 30 Moira St. W., Belleville (613-968-2273) on Friday, October 11 at 12 noon, with visitation from 11 until 12.  Reception to follow.
