TUFFORD,Mrs. Marion R. (nee Hills), of R.R.#1, St. Thomas, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 3, 2013, in her 88th year. Dear wife of the late Noble G. Tufford (2010). She leaves behind a large, loving family and close-knit community; children, Ruth Ann of Toronto (Bob Omidi), Janice of Toronto (John Ford), Karen of Brantford (Robert Brehn), and sons, Alex of Stratford, Owen of R.R.#1, St. Thomas (Margaret, nee Grant) and Stanley of Dutton (Laura, nee McIntyre); grandchildren, Cameron and Curtis (Brehn), Adele, Frances, Alex, Kirsten, Hillary, Derek, Taryn, Mackenzie and Teagan; sister, Hazel Cross of Waterloo (Brian); in-laws, Ann McLean of Boxall, and Beth and Stanley Vince of London, as well as several nieces and nephews. A sister, Helen Beetlestone and brothers, Flying Officer Keith Hills and Ralph Hills predeceased her. Born in Tara, ON, May 2, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John and Ruth (nee Rae) Hills. In earlier years, Marion taught art in Owen Sound. Art and painting was a lifelong love and practice. She also taught elementary school in Ajax and Southwold Township and for many years she worked as a supply teacher throughout schools in Elgin County. Later, she worked as a social worker for Family & Children’s Services, St. Thomas. Marion was a dedicated member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, St. Thomas and the Middlemarch Women’s Institute, as well as a former member of Fingal United Church. Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Wednesday, June 5th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) where the funeral service will be held Thursday, June 6th at 11:00 a.m. Following cremation, interment in Fingal Cemetery. Instead of flowers, the family respectfully suggests contributions to the Elgin Military Museum or the Canadian Cancer Society.
