Peacefully at Bluewater Health on Friday, July 6, 2012, John (Jack) James Thorpe passed away at the age of 82. Born on July 21, 1929 to Bob and Jane Thorpe. Beloved husband of the late Phyllis (2000). Loved father of William (Bill). Dear brother of Bill of Kemptville, ON, Bert of Ooyza, BC, and Betty Brock of Sarnia. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.  Good friend of Helen Burden and her family. Predeceased by sisters Agnes Whitlock, Ruth Pratt, and Jessie Ford. Jack lived in Sarnia his whole life.  In his youth, he played on the first SMAA Hockey Team (Pirates), was a member of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets (Repulse), and the Reserve Army Drum & Trumpet Band. He was involved with Scouts Canada (Sarnia District) for many years as well as SMAA with the golf program since his retirement and was a member of the Sarnia Golf & Curling Club. Jack was involved with the United Way (Point Edward) one of the founding members for the formation of the Esso Retirement Clubs (Sarnia North). He retired after 38 years of service at Imperial Oil Ltd. (Esso Chem) in May 1986. Jack enjoyed playing bridge, golfing and travelling.  He was never too busy that he couldn’t help his neighbours at the Royal Oak Apartments.  He was a proud citizen of Sarnia and promoted it whenever the occasion would arise. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
