ThompsonMargaret Aileen (Doan) Thompson born June 14, 1917, died October 9, 2014 in her 98th year, at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie.  Beloved wife and perfect partner to Ted for 60 years.  Mother of Lynne (Ellis), Sandy (Linda Larocque), Deborah (Jim Glynn) and Nancy Southam (Danny Giecko).   Grandmother of 8 – Ted, Bruce, Christine, Peter, Heather, Scott, Andrew and Sarah),  great-grandmother of 8 (eagerly anticipating the birth of #9), great-great-grandmother of 1.  She also enjoyed a special relationship with her nieces Elizabeth Dudley, Virginia Wadge and Margaret Marshall and their families.  Mom, one of five children, was born in Coppercliff to Edith and Ebenezer Doan and was raised in North Bay where she lived until her marriage to Dad in May 1942 when they moved to Toronto. She was the love of his life and consummate corporate wife, homemaker and dedicated mother during their many moves including Ottawa, Montreal, London and finally Barrie.  As they looked forward to retirement, Mom and Dad became very active members of the Barrie Golf and Curling Club where Mom took up both sports to share in Dad’s retirement activities, golfing well into her nineties.  In 1968, Mom joined the RVH Auxiliary where she volunteered, receiving life memberships both locally and provincially for her 42 years of continuous service. She was a member of the May Court of Barrie and the IODE.  She also loved to indulge her passion for bridge.  Mom built many long lasting friendships over the years and they were a valued part of her life. In August 2011, Mom was so fortunate to find her new home at Serenity Assisted Living in Barrie where she spent her last three years indulged and loved by the wonderful staff there.  Our sincere thanks to them for their caring. Mom was always very interested in her family’s many activities.  She cherished the time spent catching up on all our lives .  Mom’s wonderful health allowed her to participate in family events right till the end.  We miss her very much. Mom loved a good party – we will be celebrating Mom at the Barrie Country Club, 635 St. Vincent Street in Barrie on November 2, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. Private family interment. Arrangements entrusted to Marshall W. Driver Cremation & Burial Service, 19 Ross St., Barrie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to RVH Auxiliary or the charity of your choice.
