February 27, 1929 – December 9, 2016

Harry passed away peacefully on December 9, 2016 at the age of 87 in Cobourg, Ontario.

He was brother of Walter and the younger son of Harry & Grace Taylor who raised both their sons in Fort William (Thunder Bay), Ontario.

Harry attended Michigan Tech on a hockey scholarship where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Geology He then completed a Masters of Science/Geology at the University of Minnesota. It was this education that brought him to the West where he enjoyed a long and very successful career as a geologist in the Alberta oil patch.

Harry was a very fortunate man who had two wonderful loves in his life, who coincidently were both raised on Winnipeg Ave. in Port Arthur. He was married to June (Cuff) for 50 years and they raised three children in Calgary – Becky (Howard), Kirk (Alana) and Scott (JingJing). Harry & June’s life together was about love, family and friends. He was incredibly proud of his kids and they all thought he was the “best”.

After June’s death, on a trip around Cape Horn, Harry met his second Thunder Bay love and future wife Carol Hanley. They settled in Cobourg and had ten wonderful years enjoying their families together and travel, including eight maravilloso winter sojourns in Mexico where Harry perfected the art of margaritas.

Harry was the beloved Grandpa to Taylor, Danielle, David, Kaitlin, Erica, Ryan, London and Asia.

Harry was also much loved by Carol’s family, fondly known as Grandpa Harry by all, including Katie (Peter), Tom and Susan and grandchildren Luke, Jack and Ellery.

Harry was an accomplished athlete, a lifelong hockey goalie, from a stint with the Toronto Marlies to oldtimers hockey until age 77. A hockey coach, hiker and always a swimmer no matter how cold the water. Golf was something he took up in retirement and enjoyed the comradery of golf with friends and the challenge of the game.

Harry will be sorely missed by so many; his warm smile, the lovely twinkle in his eye and his generous forgiving nature. He was an authentic gentleman with a positive outlook who saw only the good in others, making him a tremendous role model.

A Celebration of Harry’s Life will be held on December 20th at the Dalewood Golf Club at 7465 Dale Rd., Port Hope, Ontario at 11:30 am.
