Taylor Obit Photo 1Peacefully, surrounded by family and love at Parkwood Hospital, London, on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at age 87, Ed left this world to be with his wife Shirley after a brief struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Beloved father of David and his wife Sharon of Sarnia, Linda Jean and her partner Clare Hooper of London, Brian and his wife Karen of Bright’s Grove, Brent and his wife Nancy of Petrolia, and Sheri and her husband Grant Maltman of London. Loving grandfather of Craig Jean, Kari Dawson (nee Jean), Kevin Taylor, Melissa Jean, Meighen Clarke (nee Taylor), Brad Taylor, Brandi Taylor-Reid, Kristen Badder (nee Taylor), Erin Pardy (nee Taylor) and Scotia Maltman. Great-grandfather of 14 and step-grandfather of 16. Survived by his brother Walter, sisters Marie and Muriel, and their families. Predeceased by his wife Shirley (2011), his parents John and Ada Taylor, and brothers Len, Jack and Ron.

Ed was the first of his family born in Canada. One of seven children, he grew up in London, ON, met and married Shirley and moved to Sarnia in 1951. He dedicated 31 years of his life working for Dow Chemical Canada, retiring in 1982. He then started a new career as Treasurer/Manager with The Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union, retiring in 1995. He loved to play the drums and played with the Royal Canadian Legion Pipe Band of Sarnia along with various other groups. He volunteered with the Sertomanaires, Marching Angels Drum Corps, North American Atom/Midget Silver Stick Finals and, after retirement, the Sarnia General Hospital. Ed loved cars, especially old ones and was a former member of the Antique and Classic Car Club of Canada. He enjoyed hockey, fixing things, building things and playing golf. Ed served his country as a Sergeant Bombardier with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943 to 1945. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association 403 Wing and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62.

The family would like to thank the nurses, Dr. Borrie, Tichelle, the staff and volunteers of 2 Perth, Parkwood Hospital for their care and support of Ed these last few years. Our thanks also to the families of 2 Perth veterans for sharing their time with our father.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2013, at Smith Funeral Home, with visitation being held one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Alzheimer Society, Parkwood Hospital Veteran’s Care, or Heart & Stroke Foundation (cheques only at the funeral home please).  smithfuneralhome.ca
