With great sorrow, the family of Leeland Ray Tanner of Petrolia announce his passing
on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at C.E.E. Hospital of Bluewater Health, Petrolia
in his 89th year. Lee was born at C.E.E. Hospital, Petrolia on
December 22, 1924, the son of the late Laverne and Myrtle (Metcalf)
Tanner.  Predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Violet “Mae” Tanner (nee McLean)(2007).
Loving dad of Larry and Judy Tanner of Sarnia, Linda Walker of Sarnia,
and Sandi and Ken McInnis of Chatsworth and his step-children Helen and Gord
Butler of Sarnia, the late Jim (2000) and Louise Armstrong of Sarnia, and the
late Joanne (1992) and Charles (1992) Latimer.  Lee has sixteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and eight
great great grandchildren. Brother of the late Donna (the late William) Anderson
of Oil Springs, Phyllis (the late Ern) Jackson of London, the late Lyle
“Barney” (Eleanor) Tanner of Sarnia, Elaine (the  late Andy) Burt of London, Wilda (the late
Earl) Todd of London, the late Bloss (Anne) Tanner of Petrolia, Inez (the late
Ralph) McLean of Hanover, the late Ruby (the late William) Goslin, Bonnie
(Pierre) Soulard of Sarnia, the late Earl (Shirley) Tanner of Petrolia, and Kay
(Gary) Freer of Tiverton. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Lee built silos for many years in Lambton
County and beyond and it seemed like he knew everyone and their genealogy.  He also worked at the Petrolia Gasket factory
and 18 years at the GM plant in Oshawa. Lee and Mae enjoyed fishing, vacation
trips and wintering in Florida. Lee was an ardent worker and volunteer in clubs
and on committees in Petrolia and you had to buy a fund raising ticket on
something during any visit. He will be greatly missed by all because of his
constantly cheerful attitude and happy countenance even when at his
lowest.  Visitors will be received on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the NEEDHAM-JAY
, 4059 Petrolia Line, Petrolia where a funeral service will be
held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Harvey Osborne
officiating.  Interment will follow in Hillsdale Cemetery.  As expressions of
sympathy, memorial donations may be made by cheque to the C.E.E. Hospital
