SUTHERLAND, DAVID E. – January 23, 1928 – March 10, 2013.  Quietly, at St. Joseph’s at Fleming after a prolonged illness.  Predeceased by his wife Peggy of 64 years.  Survived by daughter Pat, son Jon (Ann) and grandson Andrew.  Dad had an awesome life as Director of Public Relations of Outboard Marine, travelling coast to coast producing water ski shows, emceeing fishing seminars and tournaments.  One of the highlights of his career was being asked to arrange water transportation for Pope John Paul II’s trip up the Rideau Canal and being introduced to His Holiness after the “Pope Boat” voyage.  Dad was also past president of the Chamber of Commerce, loved to volunteer at both hospitals and enjoyed the senior skate and bike rides.  Dad will be cremated and a private family memorial service for David and Peggy will take place at a later date.   If desired, condolences to the family or donations to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters or the Canadian Diabetes Association – Kawartha Branch would be appreciated and can be made at, or by calling COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL HOME at 705-740-0444.
