Shirley Ritz – formerly of Monkton, passed away peacefully at Ritz Lutheran Villa on Sunday May 20, 2018 at the age of 89. Shirley was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Monkton and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.  She enjoyed quilting, fishing and going on bus trips.

Beloved wife of the late Alvin Ritz who predeceased her in 2001.  Loving mother of Lynda Cooper, David, Jim (Susan), Rhonda Sutherland, Lori Smith (Charles) and Steven (Diane).  Special grandma of 12 grandchildren and great-grandma of 23 great-grandchildren.  Sister of Lois Peever (Clarence) and sister-in-law of Ruth Vrooman and Jean Vrooman.

Predeceased by her parents Louis and Ada (Greenaway) Vrooman, son-in-law Jack Sutherland, sisters Grace Campbell (Andrew), Rose Harloff (Walter), brothers Arthur (Eleanor), Vincent, Kenneth, Donald (Frances) and brother-in-law Mac McKay.

Douglas William McPherson of Teeswater, passed away surrounded by his family, at Toronto General Hospital on Saturday, May 19th, 2018, in his 89th year.

Beloved husband of the late Marilyn McPherson (née Dagg), who predeceased him on September 28th, 2016.

Dear father of Richard McPherson (Deborah) of Turnberry Township, Gail McPherson (Marg Sanborn) of Meaford and Jane Harkness (Leland) of Howick Township.

Loving grandfather of Erin Scott (Joe) of Ripley, Katie Pothier (Keith) of Southgate, Laura Harris (Michael) of Culross Township, Brett McPherson of Kitchener, Adam Harkness of Howick Township, Sarah Harkness of Belmore and Amy Weber (Justin) of Owen Sound and great-grandchildren Ewan, Madelaine, Declan, Duncan, Noah and Margot.

Fondly remembered by sister-in-law Ellen McPherson of Teeswater and nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Frederick and Edna (née Becking) McPherson, brother Lloyd McPherson and in-laws, Milton and Margaret Dagg and Twyla and James Brown.

CLELAND, Ida – of Listowel, passed away peacefully at Caressant Care Nursing Home on Tuesday May 1, 2018 at the age of 103. Ida was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel, a former member of the Women’s Missionary Society, Maple Leaf Women’s Institute and the Listowel Chapter of Rebekah Lodge.  She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, knitting, loved spending time with her family and enjoyed travelling with her husband Frank.

Beloved wife of the late Frank Cleland who predeceased her in 1995.  Loving mother of Shirley Nind (Derek), Joan Norman, Maureen Hayward (Stuart) and Jim Cleland.  Cherished grandma of 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.  Fondly remembered by Ken Norman, Dawn Cleland, Brenda Walker, Lois Halpenny and many nieces and nephews.

Ida was the last surviving member of her family, being predeceased by her parents Ed and Jane (Duke) Halpenny, brothers and sisters Roy Tughan (Zelma), Clara Danbrook (Charlie), Thelma Smith (Clarence), Richard Tughan, Archie Tughan (Marj) and Clifford Halpenny.

McCreery, Ruth – Lover of life, family and nature passed away on Wednesday,
April 25, 2018 at Oxford Gardens Retirement Residence, Woodstock at the age of 89. Beloved wife of the late George McCreery (1989). Loving mother of Hugh McCreery (Carol), Jane Wilson (Michael), Jennifer Martin (Gene), John McCreery (Joanne), Joel McCreery and Liam McCreery (Susanne). LUDINGTON, Audrey of Atwood

Audrey Ludington – of Atwood passed away unexpectedly at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Monday April 23, 2018 at the age of 83. Audrey farmed on the 16th Line of Elma with her husband Fred, whom she also hunted with.  She was a ladies fastball coach and umpire for many years.  Audrey enjoyed playing bingo, watching the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Blue Jays and spending time with her family.

Beloved wife of the late Fred Ludington who predeceased her in 2011. Loving mother of David and Gayle Ludington.  Special grandma of Laura and Joe Kerr and their children Bensen, Gavin, Kylan, Grayson and Evelyn; Nicole and Mike Boneschansker and their children Nathan and Penelope; and Mary Pat Ludington.  Dear sister of Ken and Linda Baillie, John Baillie and sister-in-law of Cheryl Baillie.  Fondly remembered by Lenore Moser, Kristen and Bill Warden and their children Carter and Kyla.  Also remembered by the Ludington family and many nieces and nephews.

Brian Dallner – of RR2 Grand Bend, formerly of RR2 Atwood, passed away at University Hospital, London on Monday April 16, 2018 at the age of 67. Brian will be remembered as a successful farmer and business man co-owning Listowel Feed Mill for over 20 years and later owning and operating Tim Horton’s in Grand Bend and Parkhill.  He loved spending time working with his family and spoiling his grandchildren.

Beloved husband of the late Cheryl (Petrie) Dallner who predeceased him in 2011.  Dear father of Scott (Sherry), Bill (Melissa) and Patti Coghlin (Andrew).  Special Papa (Possum) of Madalyn, Joel, Logan, Carter, Grace, Sophia and Elise.  Loving partner of Karen Wilson.  Dear brother of Pauline Mueller (Keith), Charlie (Vivian), and Jean Welsh (Jim).  Fondly remembered by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Wayne and Marilyn Petrie, Bev and Jack Porterfield and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Peacefully at Bluewater Health on Tuesday April 17, 2018  CARL HALL age 77 of Sarnia.  Beloved husband of Anita (Burwell) Hall.  Loving father of Shelley (Raymond) Hathaway, Bonnie (Carl Tolsma) Hall,   Cherished grandfather of Trevor, Robert, Michael, John, Tammy, Sara and great-grandfather of Wyatt, Hunter and Ivy.  Dear brother of Joyce (Lyle) Dayman and James (Muriel) Hall and brother in law of Jan Ryan and Myrna Burwell.   Also survived by several nieces and nephews.  Carl was a proud member of Liberty Lodge 419 and a member of  Lambton Shrine Club Motor Corps amongst many other lodges.  Resting at the D. SANTAROSSA: Bill of Dutton, Ontario

Suddenly, at his home in Dutton, Ontario, Bill Santarossa at the age of 62.  Bill is survived by his mother Shirley Santarossa (Connor) and predeceased by his father Andy Santarossa.  Bill was a well known and well respected businessman in West Elgin.  He was the proud owner of Santarossa Shooting Sports, now in it’s 20th year.

He was a special part of the Reive and Vanoverbeke families and his long time pal Ken Laframboise.

He will be dearly missed by many friends, colleagues and hunting camps.

Visitation will be held at DENNING’S OF WEST LORNE on Friday, April 13th, 2018 from 5 – 9 pm and Saturday, April 14th, 2018 from 12 – 2 pm followed by a funeral service at 2 pm.  This will be a casual affair and you are invited to dress as such.

Interment to follow at McColl cemetery.

It is with great sadness the family of Helen Castrenis announces her sudden passing on February 28, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener, ON. Beloved sister to Bill Smith, Bob Smith, Lloyd Smith – all from Clinton, Barb (Gary) Kilgour – Kitchener, Doug (Marion) Smith – Strathroy, Nathan (Patti) Smith – Goderich, Mary (Paul) Byers – Stratford. Predeceased by her parents – John and Marion Smith – Clinton, Elaine Kilgour – Kitchener (Dec. 18, 2017), Gordon Smith (Sept. 1969).

Aldeen Machan – formerly of Route 3 Monkton, passed away peacefully at Mitchell Nursing Home on Sunday March 11, 2018 in her 100th year.  Aldeen enjoyed dancing, playing cards, cooking and travelling with friends.

Beloved wife of the late Lloyd (Pud) Machan who predeceased her in 1979. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Bonnie Golightly and friend Phil Hudson of Monkton, Fay Machan and Bob Mayberry of Listowel, Gord and Joanne, Robert (Whitey), Russ, Gerald (Sam) all of RR#3 Monkton and Roy of Brussels.  Special grandma of Doug, Dennis, Charlene, Sandra, Tammy, Stephen, Kathy, Sheryl, Kevin, Trevor, Ronnie, Julie, Josh, Jared, Jessica, great grandma of 17 and great great-grandma of 3.  Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her sons Larry and wife Wanda (2015), Harvey (Hub)(1992) and son-in-law Wayne Golightly (2011).  She was the last surviving member of her family being predeceased by her parents John A. and Emelia (Vock) Wolfe, sisters Lavina Dill (Frank), Irene Steiss (Melvin) and brother Harvey Wolfe.

No visitation.  A private family service will take place.  Spring interment in North Logan Cemetery, Monkton.  A celebration of life will be held on Sunday June 24th at Machan’s Pit.

Passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side. After an extremely courageous battle with cancer Pat passed away at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Pat Amatage loving wife of Sid. Devoted mother of Chris (Jennifer) Armatage, Mark (Michelle) Armatage, Patrick (Tracy) Armatage and Katie (Mohit) Rajhans. Cherished sister of David (Linda) Quennell. Extraordinary Nana of Natalie, Jayne, Emma, Ben, Walker, Ty, Finn, Maya, Rowan, Navin, Maggie, Annie and Thomas. Pat will be remembered by her brothers Ted, Peter and Terry Quennell as well as her sister Nancy Lee. Dear sister in-law of Doug and Diane Armatage. SCHULTZ, Peter of Guelph

Peter Schultz – of Guelph passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at University Hospital, London on Friday March 2, 2018 in his 40th year.  Peter graduated from St. Jerome’s, University of Waterloo, with a math degree in the fall of 2000.  While at university, he was hired by Chris Murphy at GMA Cover Corp. as a co-op student and they became lifelong friends.  In December of 2008, they started their own business, VAS Canada Inc., doing third party quality control in the automotive sector.  Peter loved working with Chris and was thrilled to see their business grow over the past 10 years.  Peter had many friends with whom he spent enjoyable days on the golf courses around Guelph.  He loved watching TV sports with his friends, especially soccer and football which he followed very closely.  Peter was a kind and gentle man.  He had a keen mind, a sparkle in his eyes, and a great sense of humour.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dearly loved son of Ray and Brenda (Zehr) Schultz of Milverton.  Much loved nephew of Carol and Gerry Gerber, Sharon and Norman Roes, Hazel and Murray Gerber, Ruth and Bud Gerber, Rosie and Fred Lichti, Audrey Schultz, Frieda and Pete Schellenberger, and Del and Janet Schultz.  He will be sadly missed by his many cousins and friends.  Greatly missed by his best friends and business partner, Chris and Jackie Murphy of Guelph.

Predeceased by his grandparents Elroy and Emma Schultz and Vernon and Katie Zehr, his uncle Floyd Schultz and his cousin Jeremy Gerber.

Metzloff, Harry – of Listowel, formerly of Belwood, passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Wednesday February 7, 2018 at the age of 92. Harry enjoyed spending time at Belwood Lake with his family and fixing lawn mowers.   He was a former bush pilot in Northern Ontario and worked for Forwell’s Sand and Gravel for over 25 years.

Loving father of Tim (Deanne) and Dave (Terry).  Grandpa of Robert, Darryl (Jennifer), Kevin (Melinda), Philip (Amanda), Alison, Heather and great-grandpa of Connor, Blake, Kyla, Desireh and Mikel.  Survived by step-sister-in-law Elizabeth Schaefer.

Predeceased by his parents Albert and Louise (Nickolas) Metzloff, son Richard, sister June Oestreich, brother-in-law Wayne Oestreich and step-brother Phil Schaefer.

Ambedian, Edward (Barky) – of Atwood, passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Wednesday February 7, 2018 at the age of 87. Edward enjoyed spending time with his family and at the horse racing track.  He was a retired employee of Campbell Soup Company after 30 years of service.

Loving father of Lynn, Marty (Jean), Kendal, and Leslie (Peter Kotanen).  Special grandpa of Desmond, Ricki, Krys, Simon and great-grandpa of Sienna.  Survived by his sisters Marguerite, Mary Meyers (Larry), Rosie Asadorian (Ernie), Virginia (Ray) and brothers Albert (Betty) and Dave.  Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Survived by her sisters Ellen DeActis (Gary), Patricia Minielly (Jim) and brother Danny (Donna Ingraham).  Special aunt of Terry (Dawn), Linda (Aaron), Sue (Russ), Marie (Al), Sarah, Amanda (Mike) and William (Amanda).  Fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Kathy Dickinson, many great-nieces, great- nephews and cousins.

Predeceased by her parents Don and Fern (Huston) Dickinson and brother Doug.

In keeping with Donna’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A celebration of life will be held at Brenneman Funeral Home, Atwood (519-356-2382) on Saturday March 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.  Spring interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.

Barbara Smith – of Lion’s Head, formerly of Atwood, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the age of 65. Barb was a member of the Lion’s Head book club, enjoyed photography, volunteering at Golden Dawn Seniors Home and attending yoga classes.  She also enjoyed travelling and walking outdoors with her companion and guide Jemma who will truly miss her.  She was a fun-loving people person and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends.  She loved life and lived her life to the fullest.  Every sunset was enjoyed.

Beloved wife of Dave Smith whom she married in 1971.  Loving mother of Christa Beyer (Tim) and Steven Smith (Stephanie).  Special grandma of Sophie, Lily, Blake and Evan.  Cherished daughter of Marie (Debus) Schade.  Sister of Ken Schade and Brian Schade (Pauline).  Fondly remembered by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Mary Eckensviller (Ross), Elaine Foerster (Luke), Don Smith (Judy) and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Predeceased by her father Norman Schade, parents-in-law Ossie and Edith Smith, sister-in-law Dorothy Schade and brother-in-law Tom Foerster.

Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at the Elma Memorial Community Centre, Main Street, Atwood, on Friday, February 2 from 3 to 8 p.m. where the funeral service to celebrate Barb’s life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. PATRIQUIN, Mrs. Doris (née Larson), of St. Marys, ON, formerly of St. Thomas, passed away at her residence, Kingsway Lodge on Sunday, January 28, 2018, in her 92nd year.  Beloved wife of Keith D. Patriquin.  Dearly loved mother of Correne Dubois (Michael) of St. Marys, Kenneth Johnson (Tracy) of Nanaimo, BC, Leslie Naritelli (Larry) of Carlsbad, CA, Karen Pashko (Phil) of Tarzana, CA, and Vicki Fox (Jim) of Orange, CA.  Also fondly remembered by a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  The last surviving member of her own immediate family, Doris was predeceased by three sisters, Effie Dunlop, Grace Olofson, and Joyce Kaplar, and by three brothers, Clifton, Donald, and Eldon Larson.  Born in Kinistino, SK, December 9, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Delia (née Breimon) Larson.  Doris came to St. Thomas from Kinistino, SK in the late 1950’s, and to St. Marys, ON four years ago.  She was a member of the Evangelical Missionary Church, St. Thomas.  The funeral and committal service will be held at the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Thursday, February 1st at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be made privately in Elmdale Memorial Park.  Memorial donations to the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged.

NETHERCOTT, Eileen – of Kitchener, formerly of Listowel passed away peacefully at her residence in Highland Place on Sunday January 14, 2018 at the age of 86. Eileen was a member of Atwood United Church.  She enjoyed quilting, making crafts and reading, but loved the time spent with her family.

Loving mother of Twila (predeceased 2016) (Dan Allen) and Tim Smith (Rose).  Special grandma of Scott (Kelly), Connie (Paul), Greg, Becky (Will), Stacey (A.J). and great grandma of Sarah, Brooklyn, Kaitlyn, Phillip and Kirsten.  Fondly remembered by step-children Nancy Sinnamon (Wayne), Jim Nethercott (Christina), Jeff Nethercott (Marie Claude), step-grandchildren Tyler, Natasha (Chris), Ryan, Noah, Adam and Clara, brother-in-law Wallace McKee, sister-in-law Myrtle Nethercott, the residents and staff at Highland Place where Eileen resided for nearly two years, and many dear friends.

Predeceased by her parents Gordon and Connie (Reddon) Rea, her first husband Ken Smith, son Douglas (in infancy), her sisters Verda Helgerman (Ed), Marjorie (in infancy), brother Roy (in infancy), her parents-in-law Hugh and Agnes Smith, sisters and brothers-in-law Marion McKee, Mac and Marjorie Smith, Jim and Violet Smith.  Also predeceased by her second husband Ken Nethercott, step-son John Nethercott and brother-in-law Roy Nethercott.

In keeping with Eileen’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at Atwood United Church on Saturday January 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Colin Snyder officiating.  Spring interment in Molesworth Cemetery.

Passed away peacefully at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, January 9th, 2018 with her loving family by her side. Marjorie Bell at the age of 80 years, beloved wife of the late Bob Bell. Cherished mother of Lawrence Bell (Donna Crowder), Denise (Paul) Winger, Debby (the late Herb) Kershaw, Dwight Bell (Marilyn Chrysler) and Murray Bell (Jennifer Garnhum). Marjorie will be remembered by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and also by her sister Dorothy Pelly and brother Glen (Della) Rice. Predeceased by her sisters Winnifred Flear and Eleanor Laroque. Marjorie was proud to be part of the Barrie Colts Super Six Fan Club and a great supporter of the Barrie Bay Cats Baseball Club. She was a very active member of the Oro Horticultural Society, Guthrie Women’s Institute and also took part in many other community organizations. A Celebration of Marjorie’s Life will be held at ADAMS FUNERAL HOME, 445 St. Vincent St. Barrie (just north of Cundles Rd.) on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 2 o’clock with a reception following. DINSMORE, Jack (Cooney) – of Listowel, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Tuesday January 2, 2018 at the age of 79. Jack was a member of the former Trowbridge United Church.  He attended the McDonald’s Coffee Club, enjoyed the mystery weekend travelers group, camping with Betty and the Gatorville crew, and spending time with his family.

Beloved husband of the late Betty (Hamilton) Dinsmore who predeceased him in 2015.  Loving father of Mike (Shelley), Brian (Terry) and Paul (Bonnie). Special grandpa of Jeramey (Candace), Allison (Andrew), Tyler (Emily), Mark, Jeff (Danielle) and Lindsay (Danny).  Dear brother of Dave (Jean), Jean Ashley, Doris Ashley (Ron) and brother-in-law of Eileen Ament, Bob and Isabel Hamilton, and Pat Hamilton.  Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Ernest and Marion (Pritchard) Dinsmore, brother Bob and his wife Marg Dinsmore, and brother-in-law Cal Ashley.

Gladys Marie Stewart (née Blake) of Braemar and formerly of Teeswater, died of a broken heart, on Thursday, December 7th, 2017, at the age of 81. Twenty-two days following the death of her husband of 64 years, Donald Stewart.

 Born on April 12th, 1936 to the late James and Clara (née Harmer) Blake.

Her 4 children Joan (Raymond) Wright of Wingham, Jim (Deb) Stewart of Owen Sound, Ron (Jane) Stewart of Strathroy and Patti (Sandy) Staples of Kingston are heart broken.

Dear Grandma of Kevin, Brad, Janine, Amy, Mike, Bryan, Naomi, Andrew, David and Katie and Great-Grandmother to 11.

Survived by her sisters Maxine (Bill) Seers and Joyce (Jim) Oke all of Goderich.

Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families.

Predeceased by in-laws Velma (Lorne) McAllister and Eileen (Dave) Moffat, 1 nephew and 2 nieces.
