August 8, 1930-January 7, 2015
Passed away peacefully at the age of 84 with her CCAC nurse by her side at Devonshire Retirement Residence-Crawford House, where she had been living for the last five years. In early morning, her companions were summoned to pray for the repose of her soul. Her devoted care giver, Ann Hansen, joined them. She is survived by her sister Sheila Hill (Dale), Joan Heino (Maurice), her sister in-law Betty Stewart (Rusty) and five generations of nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Cecilia Dutton and Donald Stewart, her brothers Bazil, Gerard, Donald (Rusty), Vincent, Joseph and her sister Diane Dorsey. Annette made her final vows in 1955 and acquired her teaching certificate in 1970. Annette will be remembered for her numerous talents; teaching, directing choirs, composing and directing operettas, short stories, plays for children and her lively paintings using a variety of media. She wrote and illustrated books on the Sacraments, and the story of Blessed Marie Rose Durocher, foundress of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. These books were popular in the Windsor and Essex County Catholic Schools. Her passion for Social Justice led her to involvement in a Drop-In Centre on Yonge Street in Toronto and the establishment of a home for single mothers in Peterborough, ON. In 1979, she returned to Windsor to care for her ailing mother. In 1985, she obtained an ESL certificate and taught English to local immigrants. While living at Peter Street, Annette volunteered at St. Francis School introducing drama and music to some junior classes.
