Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Betty crossed the sea as a war-bride to start her adult life with the great love of her life, Francis (Frank) Sternat (deceased). Their love produced two very precious children, Kathy Guillemette (Philippe, deceased) and John Francis Sternat (deceased). After the loss of Frank, Mum lived the rest of her years and many adventures with Kathy, right until her very last breath. Betty brought so much joy to all of her grandkids, sharing in so many special occasions, vacations and visits. Granny, Nanny, Grandma, Grams, Gran will be truly missed by Kimberly Lemire (Marc), Tia Brown (Steve), Philippe Guillemette (Rebecca), Krista Guillemette (Adriano) and Patrick Guillemette (Laurie). Nana Betty was mutually adored by her great-grandchildren Nicholas and Emily Lemire, Madison and Hunter Brown, Chloe and Liam Guillemette, Jaxton Guillemette and Katerina Bertucci. Betty was a wonderful sister to many siblings and is survived by dear sister Cathy Burca (Mike) and brother Lawrence Gilroy. Auntie Betty’s memories will be cherished by goddaughter Michelle Burca (Simon) and many more nieces and nephews.
Betty, the true Lady that she was, passed away peacefully and with dignity in her 92nd year at home surrounded by love with family by her side. A great lady, she has touched so many and will be missed and her memories treasured by all those who survive her. Betty’s long and full life will be celebrated on Friday December 18th at 10:30am at Transfiguration of Our Lord Church, Etobicoke. Internment of her ashes where she will be laid to rest with her beloved Frank will follow at 12pm at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Mississauga after which the family invites family and friends to join them for a reception.
Betty’s family would like to extend very warm and special thanks and appreciation to the CCAC, many personal support workers, the palliative care team, nurses and doctors who helped so greatly and showed so much compassion to Betty and her family in the last weeks and days of her life.
For those who wish, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute, who gave us an extra three years with Betty, CMHA Toronto, JDRF, Canadian Diabetes Association or CNIB would be greatly appreciated.
