Margaret SpoonerSPOONER, Mrs. Margaret (nee Johnston), of Goodness Retirement Living, St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Charles F. Spooner (1988). Dearly loved mother of Deborah Evans (Duane) of St. Thomas. Cherished grandmother of Jessica Sampson (Phil) and loving great grandmother of Lucas Sampson, of Granton. Born in Brantford, ON, June 8, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Margaret “Marjorie” (nee Aspden) Johnston. Margaret came to St. Thomas from Glen Meyer in 1945. She was a retired store and credit manager at Sears Canada in St. Thomas and Aylmer, a former office manager at Clinton Flower Service, St. Thomas, and a former sales clerk at Brubacher Hardware, St. Thomas. Margaret was a former member of Lord Elgin Branch #41, Royal Canadian Legion, St. Thomas, the Ladies Auxiliary to Lord Elgin Branch #41, Royal Canadian Legion, St. Thomas, the Auxiliary to the Railroad Carmen of America, and a former (chartered) member of the Quota Club, St. Thomas. Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Thursday, January 15th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160). A private funeral service will be held at the funeral home. Private interment in Straffordville Cemetery will be held at a later date. Memorial donations to Animal Aide gratefully acknowledged.
