Peacefully at Parkwood Hospital in London on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, Charlotte Ann Soper (nee Henley) passed away at the age of 66. Courageous, beautiful, loved, inspirational in her battle with a difficult illness. Loving mother of Jennifer Eastman and Jeff Eastman. Cherished grandmother of Foreste Eastman and Madison Fisher. Dear sister of Barbara Gilmore and Richard Henley and sister-in-law of Connie Henley and Hilary Henley. Sadly missed by her nieces and nephews: Susan Barnes, Sally Henley, Kym Gosnell, Richard Bowen, Kevin Bowen, Jesse Henley and Paul Eastman.  Predeceased by her parents Dick and Gladys Henley, brother Donald Henley, and brothers-in-law Peter Bowen and Arthur Gilmore. Charlotte began her teaching career in Blenheim in a one-room school house on Fourth Line and then moved to Harwich Raleigh Public School. She chose to put her teaching career on hold to join the family business. Together with Pop (Ralph Eastman), her father-in-law, they were the customer face to Eastman Fruit Farms. She later became the “Char” of Charal Winery and Vineyards with her former husband and business partner Allan Eastman. In 1990, Charlotte returned to her love of teaching and devoted her career to special needs children at Hanna and Errol Road Public Schools in Sarnia. Charlotte retired from teaching in June of 2011. Lived fully, shone brightly, touching all those around her with love. She will remain forever young in our hearts and will be sadly missed by her family, friends and students. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, August 12, 2012, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 210 Michigan Ave., Pt. Edward, ON. Cremation will follow. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Inn of the Good Shepherd (cheques only at the funeral home please). Memories and condolences may be sent online at
