SOCHAN, Roxanne (Oxana) Lydia (nee Zacharia) – Born September 12, 1942 in Stanislaw, Ukraine and died peacefully at Afton Park Place in Sarnia on Thursday, March 28, 2013. Roxanne was a loving and devoted wife to Harry and dedicated mother to her four sons, Mark (Mary Sue), Roman (Kathleen), Paul (Wendy Bolf) and Daniel and also daughter-in-law, Joan Mentanski. Roxanne cherished her eight grandchildren, Nikolai, Aleksander, Kristof, Colleen, Nadia, Michael, Lydia and Natalya. She is predeceased by her loving parents Peter and Olga Zacharia and by uncles, aunts and cousins in Ukraine. Roxana immigrated to Canada with her parents at the age of six, graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in languages, majoring in French and Spanish, and married Harry on July 25, 1964. Roxanne was devoted to her family and to her church. At the church she spent many hours teaching children the Ukrainian language, religion and culture, such as Ukrainian dancing. Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Afton Park Place for their exceptional care. Friends will be received at McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. with Panakhyda at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Edward Yarema at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1045 Rosedale Ave., on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 10AM. Interment Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
