It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Karl Charles Smodis on October 7, 2012. Karl passed away peacefully at the Trillium Hospital in Mississauga, where he received exceptional care. Beloved brother of Rose Nesich, Tony (Lorrie Ann) Smodis and Mary-Ann (Gerry) Alexander. Karl absolutely adored his nieces and nephews Christopher (Adrienne) Nesich, Michael (Laura) Nesich, Richard Nesich (Alyssa), Madison and Olivia Smodis, Payton and Marisa Alexander, great nephew Jaiden Corbett and great niece Veronika Skye Nesich. Numerous other relatives also survive. Karl was predeceased by his parents Karel and Mary Smodis. Born in Thunder Bay on October 28, 1959. Karl attended Lakeview High school and later worked at Abitibi Paper Mill. Lifelong interests included football, music and cars. Karl loved to entertain. His immense thoughtfulness was evident in the carefully selected gifts he enjoyed giving. New adventures brought him to Toronto in 1999. Even when faced with his health issues, Karl maintained his sense of humour, his generosity and his positive attitude. Friends will be received at the Ridley Funeral Home, 3080 Lake Shore Blvd. W., (between Islington & Kipling Aves., 416-259-3705) on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church (739 Browns Line, Toronto) by Rev. Batic. A private interment will be held at a later date in Thunder Bay. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
