Betty SmithSMITH, Mrs. Betty (nee Thomas), of R.R.1, Fingal, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Friday, December 26, 2014, in her 84th year. Beloved wife for 63 years to Murray A. Smith. Dearly loved mother of Myrna Stoss (Werner) of Shedden, and the late Dale F. Smith (2001). Cherished grandmother of Jerry Smith (Michelle Hughes) of London, Craig Stoss of Waterloo, and Laura Hofer (Michael) of Fergus. Proud great grandma “at the farm” of Brayden and Riley Smith of London. Dear sister of Mary Lou MacKinnon (Don) of Port Stanley. Also fondly remembered by several in-laws, and many nieces and nephews and their families. Born in Southwold Township, ON, September 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Lydia (nee Stroud) Thomas. Betty was a member of Dunwich United Church, Dutton, and a former long-time member of Fingal United Church. She was a member of the U.C.W of the former Fingal United Church, a volunteer in the tuck shop at the Elgin Manor, and was a long-time quilter, having been a member of the Fingal Quilters. Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Tuesday, December 30th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 31st at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Elmdale Memorial Park. Memorial donations to the Caring Cupboard or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario gratefully acknowledged.
