SMITH, John J. “Jack”, of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully at Caressant Care on Bonnie Pl., St. Thomas on Friday, August 3, 2012, in his 86th year.  Beloved husband for 55 years to Marion (nee Taylor) Smith.  Dearly loved father of Doreen John (Michael), Jackie Smith, all of St. Thomas, and the late Bruce Smith (2007).  Cherished grandfather of Christine Dimitruk, Bradley Smith, Ryan John (Susie), Ashley Buczkowski (Andrew), Mallory John, Joseph Smith, and Sarah Waite (Cameron).  Dear brother of Bonnie Anderson of London, and the late Doreen MacDonald (2004).  Also survived by 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Born in Toronto, ON, July 3, 1927, he was the son of the late James and Isabelle (nee France) Smith.  Jack was a retired employee of Parnell Foods, London, and was previously employed by CP and CN Rail in Toronto, as well as the OPP in Essex-Kent.  He enjoyed the harness racing industry, and in his earlier years owned and helped train a number of horses.  In keeping with Jack’s wishes, his body has been donated to the Department of Anatomy, Western University.  Relatives and friends will be received by the family at a memorial visitation to be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Monday, August 6th  from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Memorial donations to All Breed Canine Rescue, Pets/Friends for Life or charity of choice gratefully acknowledged.
