Slumskie, RenRendall Emerson Slumskie of Chesley, willingly passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 in his 91st year.

Ren was a veteran of World War II and a member of the 4th Div. B.C.R. 28th Armoured Reg. and farmed in Elderslie Twp. for the majority of his life. He was the past president of the Chesley R.C.L. Br. 144 as well as the Chesley Lawn Bowling Club. He served on Elderslie Council for four years and was a member of the Chesley Hospital Board for ten years. Ren was also a member of the Chesley Curling Club and St. John’s United Church.

Beloved husband of Fran. Loving father of Diane (David) Gribble of Kincardine, Judy (Dale) Cutting of Waterloo, Richard (Nancy) Slumskie and Tom (Dianne) Slumskie, all of R.R. #2 Dobbinton. Ren will be sadly missed by Fran’s children, Gail (George) Fritsch of R.R. #4 Chesley and Chuck (Ruth) Thomson of R.R. #4 Desboroand their familes. He will be fondly remembered by his ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his first wife Edna (Knipe), second wife Mary (Murdock), brothers Cecil, Gordon, Harvey and Roy, sister Hazel Sweiger and his parents, Arthur and Mary (Weppler) Slumskie.

Visitation will be held at Rhody Family Funeral Home, Chesley on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Royal Canadian Legion Br. 144 service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Ren’s life will be held at St. John’s United Church, Chesley on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment in Desboro Cemetery.

Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society or St. John’s United Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
