With great sadness we announce the passing of our dear husband, companion, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, cousin and friend, Lisle Hutson Simmons.
Lisle was predeceased by his parents, Eunice and Merton Simmons; siblings Grantley (Doreen) and Corrine; and his granddaughter, Christina Simmons. He will be missed by his wife of 66 years, Joyce Simmons (née Watson) and their five children, Anderson (Joanne), Jean (Gregory), Antoinette (Richard), Judy (Rick) and Deborah (Geraint), all of Canada. He is also survived by his sons Eon (USA) and Tony (Barbados) and daughters, Gloria (Barbados), Anne (Canada) and Christina (Canada), daughter of his companion, Sanjean Pilgrim (Barbados).
He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Anthony (Jackie), Renee, Shelley (John), Natasha, Jeremy, Michelle, Danielle, Shana, Chad, Tosan and Tmiesan; four great grandchildren, Keenan, Brittany (Erin), Jordan, Teshawn and Tedra; and a great great grandson, Evander; as well as a niece, nephews and cousins, including Margaret Jordan, Kingsley Simmons and Carl Pilgrim, all of Great Britain; Enfield Forde, the Jones, Byron and Pilgrim families, all of Barbados. In Barbados he is also missed by friends Joan and Douglas Watson, Joslyn Browne, Cuthbert Belgrave, Earl Browne, MacCartney Welch, Vernon Mitchell, the Gill and Nurse families and the members of the Vauxhall community. The family would like to thank the health care providers in Canada and Barbados for their support and care over the years.
In Barbados Lisle was the first born of seven children. He moved to Canada in 1967 after serving as a police officer in Barbados. He completed a degree in social work and was employed as a rehabilitation counsellor by the Government of Manitoba. He loved life and thought greatly of Canada and Barbados. He was a very sociable and articulate man who also served as a justice of the peace. He believed in himself and others and supported educational and social causes for people who needed help in their communities.
A funeral service will be held at Christ Church Parish Church, Barbados, November 29th, 2017 at 2:30 pm with refreshments to follow. Family and friends may sign a book of condolence at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made through the Winnipeg Foundation, to the Barbados Association of Winnipeg Scholarship Fund, or to a charity of your choice.
