On August 21, 2012, surrounded by his family at Bluewater Health, Otto Schmidt went to be with his Lord in Heaven and has been reunited with his beloved wife Ruth. Dearly loved and missed by his children Michael (Marilyn) Schmidt of Sarnia, Dorothy (Martin) Dillon of Petrolia, Margaret Schmidt (predeceased), Rosemary Schmidt of Newmarket, and Mark (Kat) Schmidt of Toronto. Opa is very much loved by his grandchildren Katie (Michael), Adam (predeceased), Jonathan, Andrew (Amanda), Matthew and Nikki (James) and his great-grandchildren Lucas, Mason, Neriah and Gideon. Otto was born December 25, 1928, in Altenburg, Germany and was the youngest of six children. Otto is survived by his twin sister Susanna Samorski of Germany. Predeceased by sister Ingeburg Schutte, brothers Halvar, Jochim and Paul. He will be remembered by many nieces and nephews living in Canada and Germany. Otto immigrated to Canada with his family and provided them with a wonderful life. With his brother, they opened their own business, Schmidt’s Auto Body in Stratford. At forty he moved to Sarnia and began working for the Cooperators until he retired. Otto faithfully served the Lord for over thirty years at Temple Baptist Church and for the last eleven years at Huron Baptist Church. We would like to thank you all for the prayers and support given to us over this difficult time. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, August 26, 2012, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
