Mrs Vera Schepens, a lifelong resident of Wallaceburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2014, at the London Health Science Centre, “Victoria Campus”, in London, at the age of 77 years.

She was born in Wallaceburg and was a daughter of the late Achiel and Bertha (Vandenberg) Segaert. Beloved wife of Harold Truan and predeceased by her first husband Armand Schepens (1986). Loving mother of Michael (Betty) Schepens, David (Loree) Schepens, Tim (Lori) Schepens, Paul (Tammy) Schepens, Anita (Andy) Hudson and the late Allen Schepens (1981). Sadly missed by her grandchildren Steven (Jessica), Scott (Elizabeth), Allen (Marissa), Matthew (Lyndsay), Taylor, Nick, Emily, Tyler, Taryn, Morgan and Harper. Dear great grandmother of Stella, Ainsley and Brayden. Remembered by Becky (Dr. Darryl) Smith, Leah and Meghan. Kind sister and sister-in-law of Dorothy (The late Joe (2000) Koekhuyt), the late Eli (1990) (Elsie) Segaert. Predeceased by a nephew Rob Segaert. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Vera was prominent in the local business community for over 30 years, being the owner of Schepens & Sons Service Ltd., before she retired in 1996. She also contributed her time for many years to the Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association and was recognized for her dedication in 2012 with the W.M.H.A Charlene Smith Memorial Award, Hockey Mom of the Year.

The late Vera Schepens is resting at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home Ltd., 639 Elgin St., Wallaceburg. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday, August 29, 2014 from 10-11 a.m from Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Wallaceburg. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately following visitation on Friday August 29, 2014, from Our Lady Help of Christians Church, at 11 a.m. Interment of Ashes will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Diabetes Association or the Red Cross (Blood Drive) may be left at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at As a living memorial, a tree will be planted in Nicholls Memorial Forest in Memory of Vera Schepens.
