images-4PEARSON, Simone Sylvia April, 10 1941 – June 7th, 2015. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Pearson. Sylvia was born on April 10th, 1941 in Batoche, SK to Jean and Helene Caron. She was the eight of nine children, pre-deceased by her parents, brothers Neil, Edward, Lucien, and Lloyd and her sisters, Edna and Gloria. Sylvia is also survived by her sisters, Kathleen and Margaret. Sylvia is also survived by her loving husband Larry, sons Darcy (Kathy) and Boyd (Monica). She is survived by grandchildren Devan and Grady, and several nieces and nephews.

Sylvia married the love of her life, Larry, in June of 1970, and raised her sons in Surrey. She was a hard-working woman and had many friendships she cultivated through the years. Sylvia loved to laugh, engage in family events and dinners, and was especially proud of her sons, their wives, and her two grandchildren. A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held at Avalon Funeral Home, Surrey on Saturday, June 20th, at 2 PM. Dear brother of Bernadette, Ramona, Madeleine and Rachelle. Predeceased by his brothers Alfred Jr, Emeril, Gerald, Albert, Rene, Leonard and his sisters Yvette, Rose-May and Annette. Cherished grandfather of Sylvain, Angele, Melanie, Julie, Christine, Andrew, Marc, Renee, Sophie (predeceased), Pierre, Patrick and Josee. He took great joy in spending time with his family and fishing was one of his favorite past times. HAUGH:  With great sadness, the family of Irene Haugh of Exeter and formerly of Crediton, announces her passing at the Seaforth Manor, on Thursday, May 7, 2015, age 87. Beloved wife of the late Ross Haugh (2013).  Loved mother of Linda Nakamura of Seaforth and Dan Haugh (Leslie Smith) of London.  Cherished grandma of Jason (Sarah) Nakamura of Kitchener, Laura Nakamura, Brent (Jenn) Haugh and Trevor (Kristiena) Haugh all of London.  Proud great-grandma of Mya, Carmen, Maggie, Callie, Nicholas, Landyn and Eva.  Dear sister and sister-in-law of Dorothy Lambie of Saskatoon, Reg (Pauline) Finkbeiner of RR 2, Grand Bend, Lorne (Phyllis) Haugh of Exeter, Joyce (Michael) Burke of Brampton.  Irene will also be missed by her daughter-in-law Sherri Haugh, and many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by her parents Lorne and Laura (England) Finkbeiner, her brother-in-law Robert Lambie and son-in-law Brian Nakamura (2013).  Irene was a  lifelong resident of Stephen Township where she grew up on the 8th Concession. She was a life member of the Women’s Institute and a faithful member of the Crediton Evangelical and United Churches where she served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Irene enjoyed a teaching career that spanned 35 years with 27 of those years  being spent in Usborne Township. Her years at Usborne Central School from 1964 when the school opened to 1984, left the students whose lives she touched with pleasant memories of field trips to Camp Sylvan and Quebec City,  and Friday Hot Dog Sales.   Irene always took great pride in the accomplishments of her many students.  Resting at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood, with visitation on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at Zion United Church, Crediton on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 2 p.m. with visiting one hour prior at the church. Smith, Albert Ernest “Ernie” of Barrie, formerly of Oakville, Ontario

Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Jan. 27, 1921. Died on Jan. 2, 2015 in Barrie, Ontario, following a brief illness. Survived by his loving wife Shirley, and devoted sister in law Bonnie Lillico. Will be sadly missed by his sons, Brian and his wife Debra, and Gerald and his wife Colleen. He leaves behind his grandchildren Colin Smith (Sara), Heather Aquilina (Dave), Ian Smith (Noelle), and Ryan Smith (Emma), and two great grandchildren Bianca and Isaac Aquilina. Ernie enjoyed an extensive career as a Professional Engineer in Sarnia and Ottawa, and resided for many years in Oakville, Ontario following his retirement. Throughout his life he was an avid gardener, played tennis and golf, and enjoyed time at the family cottage. Donations to a charity of your choice would be welcomed by the family. Dear mother of Luc (Carole) of Hanmer, Gaston (Lynn) of Sudbury, Chantal (Hugues) of St. Jacques, NB, and Josée Bérubé (Daniel) of Ajax. She will live on in the memories of her grandchildren: Justin, Benoit, Isabelle, Mathieu, Danielle, Danika, Vincent, Sophie, Alexandre, Olivier, Ethan, and Stéfan. Sister of late Delphé Asselin (late Jeanne), late Guy Asselin (late Rollande), late Louis Asselin (Laurie) of Sudbury, and Marie Gagnon (Raymond) of Saskatoon, SK. This great lady of faith gave 50 years as organist at the parish of St. Charles Borromée (weddings, funerals, Sunday Mass, etc.). Also, for 35 wonderful years, she taught in the Sudbury Catholic School Board in St. Charles. In addition, Cécile always accompanied her Gerry in the group, Roy and Friends. Stewart, TomSTEWART, Thomas Russel “Tom” – Passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 19, 2014 in his 81st year, after attending a retirement party near Milton, ON.  During his years as a long distance truck driver, Tom acquired many, many friends and acquaintances all over North America.  He was the last surviving member of his family.  Tom was an avid collector of everything old, odd and unique.  Cars, trucks,  tractors, toys and various other items of interest to many.  As a known authority on vintage autos, and a member of almost every vintage collectable club, he was often asked to provide information to hobbyists with similar interests.  For more than 50 years, Tom’s red, 1909 Ford Model “T” was a familiar sight in Woodstock’s Victoria Day parade. Friends will be received at Old St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 723 Dundas Street, Woodstock on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 12 noon until 12:45 p.m.  A complete funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Archdeacon Richard A. Armstrong, Douglas-W150Passed away at Riverside Health Complex, Turtleford, Saskatchewan on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the age of 48 years.  Doug was born in Exeter, Ontario on June 4, 1965 to Vera and George (Ned) Armstrong.  Doug leaves to mourn his passing: his mother, Vera (Currie) Armstrong of Exeter; brother, George (Deborah) Armstrong of Whitby; sister, Barbara (Steve) McCallum of Owen Sound; niece, Alexa Armstrong; and two nephews: Matthew Armstrong and Sammy McCallum.  Missed by his aunts and uncles, Bill and Marion Armstrong of Exeter, and Howard Elliott of Chatham, and his cousins. Doug was predeceased by his father, George (Ned) Armstrong. 

A visitation will be held at the Exeter Legion, 316 William Street, Exeter on Sunday, June 8th from 2-4 PM.  Memories of Doug will be shared at 3 PM.  Cremation with interment Exeter Cemetery.

Born in Belleville, Ontario on May 12th, 1921. Died May 6th, 2014 at The Northumberlad Hills Hospital, Cobourg, Ontario. Beloved husband and best friend of Claire (nee Wheeler) for 48 years. Cherished father of Sandy and his wife Kim of Palgrave, Ontario and David and his family of Calgary, Alberta. Loving grandfather of Justin Mowat of Palgrave and Courtney and, Mellissa Mowat of Calgary. Brother of Rosemary Mowat of Barrie, and John and his wife Dianne of Cobourg. Special uncle to Brian, Jeff, and Matthew Mowat. Predeceased by his parents Angus and Helen Mowat and by his first wife Frances Thornhill.
Farley Mowat was a member of the Order of Canada and the recipient of nine Honorary Doctorates. He was the author of 42 books, a writing career that spanned 63 years. His books are read around the world and have been translated into 26 languages. He will be greatly missed by his family and by many friends in many places.
A private family funeral will be held in Port Hope on a later date.

Hamilton, Eleanor - DO NOT ERASEHamilton, Eleanor 2 - DO NOT ERASEIt is with great sadness that the family of Eleanor Louise Hamilton announces her passing on Monday, January 20th, 2014 at University Hospital, London, Ontario.  She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Herb Hamilton; son Rick Jones (Rosalie), granddaughter Nicole Jones deRooy (Jason), and their son Rohan; daughter Barbara Freeman (Dave), granddaughter Tracee Nilsson (Peter) and their daughter, Kristina; and granddaughter Kimberlee Freeman; and son Bill Hamilton (Nancy) and grandchildren Tom, Heather and David Hamilton.  Eleanor was predeceased by her loving first husband, Bill Jones, and their daughter, Maureen, as a result of a tragic car accident in Saskatoon in 1956.   She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Natel Jones; and her siblings Jack, Betty, Phyllis and Peggy.  Eleanor was born in Toronto on August 28, 1924, daughter of Ralph and Phyllis (Sinclair) Price.  She married Bill in Toronto before he was deployed overseas during World War II and upon his return they moved to his home in Saskatoon.  During the war years, Eleanor and her sisters were well known in the Toronto area as the “Four Gorgeous Price Sisters” as they worked for the Red Cross to assist with the war effort.  In 1964, Herb and El were married and enjoyed almost 50 happy years together.  They loved to travel and were avid golfers.  They enjoyed these activities up until the fall that hampered El’s mobility.  Mom was devoted to her family and it was her joy to have become a great grandmother twice in recent years.  The family would like to give our sincere thanks to the staff of the 4th floor and Palliative Care at University Hospital for their kindness to both Mom and the family during her final days.  We would also like to thank the staff at Extendicare for their care of El over the past two and one-half years.  It was Mom’s wish that there not be a funeral and that her cremated remains be interred in Saskatoon.  The family will gather to remember the good times and raise a glass to a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother and nana.  Online condolences may be made at www.westviewfuneralchapel.com

After a lengthy illness and a strong fight, Carman, of Priceville, passed into God’s care on October 19, 2013. Carman was born in Toronto on July 12, 1932. The youngest of seven children. He was raised on his family farm on the Old Durham Road. During the war his family moved into Priceville. When he completed his schooling he moved to Oshawa where he worked and raised his family. After 33years with the Durham Regional Police Dept, he retired with the rank of inspector. He moved back to Priceville and in the retirement years that followed he worked tirelessly for the village and his community. Volunteering on committees for the Canada Day celebration, the Santa Claus parade, the spring cleanup and the Remembrance Day service along with many others. He has been recognized for his community service with over 23 awards that he received from service clubs, professional and government organizations. The latest recognition was the Ontario Senior Achievement Award that was presented to him by the Lt Governor of Ontario. He was an active member of the Legion. He was a member at St Andrew’s Church. He had a great love of music, his workshop,  many cherished friends and his family. Loving father of Lorne of Penetanguishene, Sandra(Rick) Herity of Edmonton and Neil(Janet) of Ottawa. Loved and remembered by grandchildren Mathew of Vancouver, Jennifer of England, Darci(Darren) Lang of Regina, Ryan(Jill) Herity of Saskatoon, Amy Warren of Edmonton, Christina of Victoria, Kayla of Waterloo and Rebecca of Ottawa. Cherished by great grandchildren Jayda, John Lang, Willow, Kyan, Zen Herity and Jack Warren.
