RUBERRY: VERA MAY of Toronto Formerly of Sarnia, Ontario & Pine Island, Florida

images-4Born in the Channel Islands, UK on January 2, 1922. In her 95th year, Vera passed peacefully on August 10th, 2016 with Neil, her loving husband of 66 years by her side. Daughter of James and Beulah Watt, and older sister to Don and Elizabeth. Vera will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son’s Dave (Joan), Alan (Carmela), and Gary (Karen); grandchildren Leanne, Ian, Mark, and Sam; and the many friends she has made in Sarnia, Pine Island, and Toronto throughout her life. Vera came to Canada at a very young age, worked at Polymer Corporation during the war, and wed the love of her life on October 1st, 1949. They raised their family in Sarnia, eventually having a home built on the river, before finally spending more than 25 years between Toronto, Ontario and Pine Island, Florida. Having conquered cancer multiple times (including bearing three healthy children after ‘Cobalt Bomb’ cancer treatment in 1951), Vera consistently defied the odds and overcame adversity. She worked in Sarnia as a fitness instructor at both Pinsonneault Health Club and Mooretown Sport Complex before moving to Toronto in 1992. Vera stayed active, strong, and physically-fit to the very end. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on September 16 at Metropolitan United Church – 56 Queen St. E., Toronto. Visitation at 11:30am, Service at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army. For more details and to share your condolences, please visit
