Legiongeorge rowe 002PoppyROWE, George A., of St. Thomas, passed away at Parkwood Hospital, London on Thursday, April 3, 2014, in his 93rd year.  Beloved husband for 62 years to Claribel “Sue” (nee Lawrence) Rowe.  Also fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.  The last surviving member of his own immediate family, he was predeceased by a sister, Helen Chick and two brothers, William “Bill” and Richard “Dick” Rowe.  Born in Windsor, ON, October 18, 1921, he was the son of the late Richard “Dick” and Nellie (nee Brown) Rowe.  George was a retired employee of the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital and a former employee of Canadian Timken, St. Thomas.  He was an active member of Lord Elgin Branch #41, Royal Canadian Legion, St. Thomas.  During the Second World War, he served overseas with the Canadian Army.  In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or funeral service.  Private interment of his cremated remains will be made in Elmdale Memorial Park.  Memorial donations to the War Amps of Canada, the Parkwood Hospital Foundation or the Lord Elgin Branch #41, Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund gratefully acknowledged.  The Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) is entrusted with arrangements.
