ROSINA, John – It is with deep sadness that his family announces the passing of John Rosina, formerly of Petrolia, on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Bluewater Health in Sarnia at the age of 92. Predeceased by his parents Josef and Apolonia and brothers Jerry, Joe and Frank. Survived by his loving wife Lillian and their children Fred (Penny), John (Kendra), Julie (Bill), Theresa (Louis) and Krista (Alan). Cherished grandfather of Michael, Eric, Kurtis and Burkeley and great-grandfather of Laura. Dear brother of Gus (Tina), Tony, Mary and Jean. Also predeceased by his brother-in-law Alf and beloved nephew Jerry. John will be remembered fondly by his sister-in-law Olga, niece Joyce and other family and friends. John immigrated to Canada from Czechoslovakia at the age of 8 with his parents and brothers on the White Star Line. They settled in a homestead in Peesane, Saskatchewan in the 1930s before moving to Ontario and settling in the Alvinston and Petrolia area. As a young man he joined the Regina Rifles Regiment Saskatchewan and took his training at Camp Shilo, Manitoba – Canadian Army. He was a member of the Canadian Legion Branch 62, Sarnia. John is mostly remembered for being owner/operator of john Rosina Construction – bulldozing and heavy equipment being his passion. He also worked 17 years for CNR as a fireman and engineer and on the Great Lakes as a Merchant Marine oiler and fireman on freighters and passenger ships. At the family’s request a private funeral service will be held with interment following at Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia.
