Roseanne Clara Patricia Sutherland (nee Bousfield)

Passed away Wednesday December 5, 2012 at Leamington District Memorial Hospital at the age of 94. Roseanne was predeceased by husband Captain Denie Carpmael in 1941, husband Dr. A. B. (Suds) Sutherland in December 1977, step children Mary Jane Jones, Jock and David Sutherland and her brother Michael Bousfield June 2010, Cornwall, England.   Cherished and loving mum to Robert of Leamington and Michael of Sudbury, Ontario.  Her rich life started October 22, 1918 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia born to British parents, Reginald and Mabel Bousfield.  Roseanne studied Ballet in Chester, England and fashion design at Revilles School of Fashion, London, England.  She was presented at Court in 1938 to King George VI.  During WWII she worked for the Land Army and Foreign Office.  Following the war she moved to Sudbury, Ontario in 1948 to marry Suds.  In Sudbury she was actively involved in community life volunteering for the Red Cross, March of Dimes, Cancer Society, local hospitals, and home and school.  Roseanne was a member of I.O.D.E. for 35 years in the Nipissing then Elizabeth Fry Chapters. She held various offices including Vice-President Northern District of the Ontario Chapter.  Roseanne got involved in politics to encourage women to participate.  She became the 1st vice-president of the P.C. Party’s Ontario Women’s Association and President of Northern Ontario Women’s Association.  In 1974 she was appointed as one of the first of four lay benchers of the Law Society of Upper Canada where she served 12 years.  In 1984 she received an award of distinction from the City of Sudbury for outstanding community work.  Roseanne lived the last 6 years with love and care of Robert in Leamington.
