ROBERTSON: Mona of White Rock, BC Formerly of Surrey and Kelowna, BC

Mona Robertson, 93, of White Rock, BC, formerly of Surrey and Kelowna BC, died peacefully on February 16, 2018.

Born December 1, 1923 in Vernon, BC, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Albertine Quebec (Martell).

Mona joins her late husband and love of her life, Donald Wright Robertson. Mona and Major Robertson (RCAF) met while attending the University of British Columbia (UBC). They began their romance by meeting under the Birk’s Clock in downtown Vancouver towards the end of the Second World War. Not only did she graduate with a B.A. from UBC, in later life, she completed a second Bachelor’s degree from Simon Fraser University and attended Okanagan College’s Fine Arts Program.

Mona is survived by her three daughters, Andree Laval (Robert), Laura Robertson Peacock (William) and Robin Robertson (Scott); four grandchildren Grace Laval (Rick), Sarah Robertson (Chris), Katherine Peacock and David Peacock; and, two great grandchildren, Julianna and Alison.

Our mother was an artist. She was an amazing seamstress, creating all our school clothing, upholstering our furniture and creating beautiful Vogue pattern fashions. She adored painting, drawing, sculpting, and many other artistic media. Mom was very musically inclined, singing with the UBC band during the 1940’s and played piano for her entire life. She also was a dancer, and in later years, took pleasure embarrassing her daughter(s) dancing down the shopping isles to the canned music during the weekly grocery shopping trip.

We wish to thank all of the staff at Weatherby 1 Residential Care (Peace Arch Hospital) for their amazing care of our mother during her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A private family memorial is planned. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association .
