Peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on September 19, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Ruby Jean Hicken passed away at the age of 80.  Dear friend of Charlie Harwood. Loving mother of Steve (Debbie), Gary (Jan), Ken (Debbie), Carol Nickels (Tom), and Cathy Johnson. Cherished grandmother of 11 grandchildren and five great-granddaughters.  Dear sister of Helen Harris (the late Ted), Edith Bailey (Jerry), Joyce Irwin (John), and Marlene Lapier (Tom). Long-time friend of Jane Johnson. Predeceased by her parents Stephen and Dorothy Pyne, her husband Orville Hicken (1990) and by her three brothers-in-law. Ruby was a devoted member of the London Road West United Church and a member of Cub Mothers. She managed the Golden Mile Flea Market for 13 years after Orville passed. Ruby enjoyed bowling, knitting, crochet, and a good game of euchre as well as spending time with her family, especially all her grandchildren and great-granddaughters. Thank you to Dr. Maddison, Dr. Crombeen, Dr. Uppal, Blaine from CCAC, and all of the caring staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice for all of the support and love during this time. Family and friends will be received at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Blackwell Cemetery. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to London Road West United Church, St. Joseph’s Hospice or London Health Sciences Foundation – Dialysis Unit (cheques only at the funeral home please).
