It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Margaret (Russell) Power, 76 on June 27th, 2014 with her family by her side in Sarnia, Ontario shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.

Margaret was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec and moved to Sarnia in 1977.  Margaret retired from Dow Chemical in 1996 and spent her retirement volunteering mainly with her church, High Park United and enjoying a good game of cards with her friends at 993 Maxwell Street.

Margaret is survived by her children Karen Power, Laurie (John) Skarja, Kim (Brad) Cicchini and her sisters, Helen & Eileen and brothers John, Peter, Willie and Richard and their spouses and beloved sister-in-law Judy (Shawn) Tobin, grandchildren Brittany & Matthew Cicchini, Ashley & Katie Thomas, Taelor & Emelia Power and many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember our mother for her many family gatherings at holiday time.  She was preceded in death by our father, Bryan Power.

At Margaret’s request no visitation or service will be held.  Cremation will take place followed by a private burial ceremony.

The family would like to thank the many visitors that Marg had during her stay at Bluewater Health who brightened her final days and warmed our hearts with their kind words. Special thanks to the nurses in Telemetry and Palliative Care for the exceptional care and compassion that was given to all of us during this difficult time.  Special mention to the Palliative nurses and Dr. Maddison who ensured that our mother was comfortable in her final hours and who supported and guided us in saying goodbye – there are no words to truly express our heartfelt thanks for the job you do.

Donations may be made to High Park United Church, the Sarnia Humane Society or the Canadian Cancer Society in Margaret’s memory.  Memories and condolences may be sent online at
