It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lawrence Gower Poole announce the passing of this wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. Lawrence passed away peacefully at the Northumberland Hills Hospital on June 12th, 2013 in his 90th year. Lorne was predeceased by his wife Genevieve, his brothers King (Doreen) and Earl (Fern). He is survived by his children Larry (Susan), Janet (Chuck), Joan (John), Don (Judie), Karen and Rita. Grandfather of Tasha (Ahren), Ashli, Joshua (Kaitlin), John, Michelle, Lance (Shannon), Sean, Kyle and Shevaun. Great grandfather of Logan and Kasen. Lorne was a very loving and generous man who was well known for his humour and quick wit.
Lorne was retired from many years of service with Black & MacDonald and was a member of the 25 year club. Lorne has provided years of entertainment with his poems for many occasions. He was an unofficial member of the Eddystone Baptist congregation. He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Grafton and was on the building committee there.
He was a WWII veteran, past Grand Knight of the Scarborough Knights of Columbus, current member of the Knights of Columbus in Cobourg, Sir Knight of the James Tracey Assembly, Cobourg, he was on the board of directors for the Community Living and a current member of the electrical union.
Lorne was always volunteering his time and energy toward a number of good causes. He was a gentle giant who loved nothing more than time spent with his family.
Friends and family may visit at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E., Cobourg on Friday, June 14th from 2 – 5 and 7 – 9 p.m. Prayers will be said at 2:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be said at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Grafton on Saturday, June 15th at 11 a.m.. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Grafton. Donations in memory of Lorne can be made to Community Living Durham North or Community Living West Northumberland. Following the interment friends are invited to return to the Cobourg Best Western for a celebration of Lorne’s life. Condolences to www.MacCoubrey.com.
