Phippen, John Francis of Caressant Care Nursing Home, St. Thomas, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, January 18th, 2014, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of 67 years of Flossie May (Clark) Phippen and dearly loved father of Sandra and her husband Donald Taylor of St. Thomas. Loved grandfather of Melissa and her husband Jeff VanHarn of St. Thomas and great grandfather of Tenisha and Megan VanHarn. Dear brother of Laura Scott (late John)  of Manitoulin Island, Margaret Phippen of Manitouwadge, Gordon Phippen (Alma) of Marathon and the late Harold Phippen and his wife Marie of Huntsville. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. John was born in Toronto on May 18th, 1921, the son of the late Bert and Else (Kay) Phippen. He lived in Huntsville and Port Sydney. John worked for Loblaws, A & P.  and MLoeb. He owned and operated John’s Pinto Store on Talbot Street, St. Thomas. John served in the Air Force during W.W.II. from 1943-1945. He was a member the St. Thomas Christian Church.

The funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held at the St. Thomas Christian Church, Wellington St., St. Thomas on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Visitation at the Church on Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m.  Visitation at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Spring interment in Cowal McBride Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the St. Thomas Christian Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.
