PHILLIPS, Donald H. “Don”, of the Dearness Home, London, formerly of St. Thomas, Chatham, Tilbury, and Merlin, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, May 19, 2014, in his 84th year. Beloved husband for 62 years of June (nee Russell) Phillips. Loving father of Russ Phillips of St. Marys, and Pamela Champ (John) of London. Cherished papa of Nicole (Paul), Patrick, Laura (Anthony), Jeff (fiancée Kristin), and Jason. Loved great-papa of Bailey, Kate, Brielle, and Bentley. Dear brother of the late David Phillips (Joan of Winnipeg). Also survived by two nieces and two nephews. Born in Merlin, ON, September 8, 1930, he was the son of the late Henry Phillips and the late Constance (nee Randall) Cowley, and the step-son of the late Hubert Cowley. Don was a retired insurance salesman with the Co-Operators Insurance Company, St. Thomas where he worked for over 24 years. He was also a former Chief of Police in Tilbury and a Constable with the Chatham Police Service. Don was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church, St. Thomas, having served on the Board of Management. He was an avid golfer and a former member of the Seniors’ League of the St. Thomas Curling Club. Relatives and friends will be received on Friday, May 23rd from 7-9 p.m. at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 24th at 11:00 a.m. Following cremation, private interment in Woodland Cemetery, London. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice gratefully acknowledged.
