Peacefully with his family by his side at Vision Nursing Home on Friday, January 23, 2015 Andrew Thomas Cannon passed away at the age of 95.  Beloved husband of the late Mary Rita (MacNabb) Cannon (1997).  Loving father of Andrea (Jack) VanRooyen, Garry (the late Judy 2012) Cannon, the late Glenda (2003) (the late Ben 1998) Huggett, the late Bill (1997) (Darlene) Cannon, Mike (Cheryl) Cannon, Jeanette (Dave) Carrothers.  Cherished grandfather of 19 and great-grandfather of 18.  Dear brother of Gertrude Watson and Joseph (Charlotte) Cannon, and brother-in-law of Agnes Cannon and James MacNabb.  Predeceased by infant daughter Mary Margaret, infant son Andrew Thomas, grandsons Benjamin Todd Huggett, Garry Steven Huggett, brothers; Louis, James, Stratton, and John, sister; Rita MacDonald, sisters-in-law; Jennie Cannon, Kay Cannon, Phyllis Cannon and Marion Hazelwood and brothers-in-law; John Watson and Frank MacNabb.  Andrew served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders from 1939-1945, he lead one of the first troops to the shores of Juno beach on D-Day during the Normandy invasion.  During his tour of duty he was sent over-seas to England, Belgium, Holland, Germany and France.  Along with his 3 sons and his son-in-law he returned to the beaches of Normandy for the 50th anniversary on D-Day where he was decorated by the mayor of Caen.  Andrew returned home to PEI and moved to Sarnia in 1950 where he worked as a carpenter with Local 1256 since 1953.  Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 1011 Oak Ave. Sarnia.  Cremation will follow.  Sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice.  Memories and condolences may be sent online at www.smithfuneralhome.ca

Peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital on Sunday November 2nd, 2014. Al Sexton age 84 of Charleston Lake. Beloved husband of June ( nee Jackson ), and the former Pauline Plunkett ( pre: 2008 ). Dear father of Lynda Hamilton ( John ) of Seeleys Bay and Randy Sexton ( Jo Ann ) of Kanata. Loving grandfather of Kate, Jenny, Michael, Ben and Patrick. Brother of Vernon ( Kay ), Norma, Patricia, Reggie ( Joan ), and Verna Brousseau ( Conrad ) all of Quebec. Predeceased by two sisters and one brother, Rose Sexton, Kilda Normandeau and Dennis Sexton. Special uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. Passed away at Joseph Brant Hospital surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the age of 82. Predeceased by her husband Clement MacDonald (1968) and Dan Cole (2001). Beloved mother of Brenda, George (June), Patricia, and Arlene. Proud Grandma to Leslie, and Lisa (Jason). Great-grandmother to Aidyn. At his home o2014_09_18_18_28_01n Thursday, September 18th, 2014.  Earl Seymour Ross of Ailsa Craig in his 74th year.  Predeceased by his wife Bonnie Ross (2005).  Loving and dear father of Faye Llewellyn of Montague, PEI, Liz (Trevor) Moore of Ailsa Craig and Lisa (Jim) Vanderwal of Ailsa Craig and father in law of Terry Llewellyn of Bridgetown, PEI.  Loving grandpa of Mike (Jess), Kristi (Cory), Catherine (Josh), Richard, Mark, Sarah and Tori and great grandpa of RJ, Ryder and Ellie.  Dear nephew of Pearl Ross of Dundas, PEI and Marion Matheson of Souris, PEI.  Best friend of Jerry Thompson.

 

Earl was an entrepreneur, a businessman, avid race fan and racer.  Earl was the 1974 NASCAR rookie of the year and was inducted into the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame as well as many other accolades from an incredibly successful career.  He was known as “The Canadian Racing Legend”.

Walter Carr   Passed away at Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 . Born on July 21, 1932 in St. Catharines to the late George and Isobel Carr.  Walter was raised in St. Davids and later moved to Matchedash, Simcoe County in 1972.  He is survived by his loving wife Tineke Carr (nee den Bak).  Dear father of David and his wife Carla Kilpela, Judy and her husband Glenn Howard and Tom and his wife Kathy-Anne.  Devoted grandfather to Matthew Carr and his fiancé Victoria Grenkie, Jessica Carr, Scott Howard and Carly Howard.  Walter retired as Quarry Manger of Lafarge, formerly known as Allen G. Cook in Tay Township.  He served 2 terms as Reeve of Matchedash Township, sat on the Area Planning Board of Couchiching and was formerly the Roads Chairman for Simcoe County. He loved curling and shuffle board.  Tineke and Walter enjoyed time together travelling in their RV to all of the Canadian provinces and all but 3 states in the U.S. His good sense of humour, practical jokes and patience will be missed by all.  Special thanks to the Drs, nurses and staff for their care and assistance during Walter’s decline.  A celebration of his life will be held at the Coldwater Curling Club, 9 Michael Ann Drive on Sunday, August 24th from 2-5 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Lung Association or Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital would be appreciated.  Arrangements entrusted to the LeClair Cremation Centre.

Stewart, TomSTEWART, Thomas Russel “Tom” – Passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 19, 2014 in his 81st year, after attending a retirement party near Milton, ON.  During his years as a long distance truck driver, Tom acquired many, many friends and acquaintances all over North America.  He was the last surviving member of his family.  Tom was an avid collector of everything old, odd and unique.  Cars, trucks,  tractors, toys and various other items of interest to many.  As a known authority on vintage autos, and a member of almost every vintage collectable club, he was often asked to provide information to hobbyists with similar interests.  For more than 50 years, Tom’s red, 1909 Ford Model “T” was a familiar sight in Woodstock’s Victoria Day parade. Friends will be received at Old St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 723 Dundas Street, Woodstock on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 12 noon until 12:45 p.m.  A complete funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Archdeacon Richard A. Born in Belleville, Ontario on May 12th, 1921. Died May 6th, 2014 at The Northumberlad Hills Hospital, Cobourg, Ontario. Beloved husband and best friend of Claire (nee Wheeler) for 48 years. Cherished father of Sandy and his wife Kim of Palgrave, Ontario and David and his family of Calgary, Alberta. Loving grandfather of Justin Mowat of Palgrave and Courtney and, Mellissa Mowat of Calgary. Brother of Rosemary Mowat of Barrie, and John and his wife Dianne of Cobourg. Special uncle to Brian, Jeff, and Matthew Mowat. Predeceased by his parents Angus and Helen Mowat and by his first wife Frances Thornhill.
Farley Mowat was a member of the Order of Canada and the recipient of nine Honorary Doctorates. He was the author of 42 books, a writing career that spanned 63 years. His books are read around the world and have been translated into 26 languages. He will be greatly missed by his family and by many friends in many places.
A private family funeral will be held in Port Hope on a later date.

Born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on July 20th,1935, he was the son of the late Alexander and Christena (MacLellan) MacLeod of Dunvegan, Nova Scotia. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Anita, nee MacLellan, and six grateful children: Alexander (Crystal), Dartmouth, NS; Lewis (Meghan), Peterborough, ON; Kenneth, Windsor, ON; Marion, Chicago, Il, Daniel (Amy), Guelph, ON; and Andrew, Windsor, ON. He was the “most fun” and much-loved grandpa of Evelyn, John Robert and Frances, Hamish, Clementine, Matilda and Susannah, and Alistair and Joseph. He was pre-deceased by his infant son, Donald, and his sister, Marylin, Surrey, BC. Recognized as one of the world’s finest fiction writers, his stories have been translated into 17 languages and are treasured by readers around the globe. An Officer of the Order of Canada and a Fellow of the Royal Society, he was the first Canadian to win the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award for his 1999 novel, No Great Mischief. Murray: Stewart M. of Markdale formerly of Malton

??????????????????????Murray, Stewart – Passed away at Grey Bruce Health Services, Markdale, on Saturday January 4, 2013. Stewart McCammont Murray of Markdale, formerly of Malton, in his 80th year. A son of Elizabeth Crossan Bole McCammont, Stewart was born  in Glasgow, Scotland.   He  immigrated to Canada in the early fifties, where he was employed as a chemist with McDonald Douglas( MDCAN).  After retirement he moved to the Markdale area . He enjoyed raising Cairn Terriers with special friend Diana Hunter. He will be missed by his friend Sarah Rollinson, along with  his extended family and friends. Cremation will be followed by scattering of his ashes on the beach in Prince Edward Island later in the year. peacefully, with her family by her side, at the Trillium Manor, Orillia on Wednesday, November 13, 2013; 5 months after celebrating her 100th birthday.  Ethel Mallett, of Orillia, beloved wife of the late Charles (Charlie) Mallett.  Mother of Marilyn Graves and husband Ralph of Argyle, Hazel Bishop and husband Henry Mueggler of New Brunswick, Ruby Wylie and husband John of New Brunswick, and Jeannette Barlow of Orillia.  Grandmother of Geoff, Wanda, Terry, Tanis, and Jeanene.  Great grandmother of 8 and great great grandmother of 3.  Predeceased by brothers Ivan and Lorne.    Thank you to the staff at Trillium Manor, Bayshore Nursing and the Red Cross girls for their care and compassion.  The late Mrs. Ethel Mallett will rest at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St.,N., Orillia on Sunday from 1 – 4 pm and on Monday, November 18th from 12 Noon until time of service in the chapel at 1 pm.  A reception will follow in the Mundell Reception room.  Interment to take place at the Atherley Cemetery at 3:30 pm.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church or Trillium Manor Activities would be appreciated.  Messages of condolence are welcome at www.mundellfuneralhome.com

BAILEY: Gary William of St. Thomas, Ont.

Gary Bailey PhotoBAILEY – Gary William of St. Thomas passed away after a courageous battle, on Monday, August 19, 2013 at the age of 67.  Beloved husband of Brenda for 50 years.  Gary is survived by children Greg (Jaime) Bailey, Steve (Wendy) Bailey and Dan (Michele) Bailey; grandchildren Sarah Bailey, Jenifer Bailey, Josh Bailey, Emily Bailey, and Jessie (Mitch) Dejong; brothers Alfred (Betty) Bailey, and Wayne (Lynn) Bailey.  Gary had a varied career working for Lloyd Pressey Fuel Oil, Clevite, Clark Equipment and Lovedays Towing.  He eventually started his own Music Band and Entertainment Agency, becoming the first licensed Booking Agent in Canada, booking bands throughout Canada and the United States.

Gary’s love of music and talent for entertainment led to a prolific career in the industry.  He sang with the Simcoe Barbershop Group, the Psych Hospital Choir, Knox Church Choir and ultimately he became a promoter for the Rudy Davis Band.  The latter led him to Montreal, California, touring the west, with eventual recognition on Billboard Top Hits for their #2 single that is still played on many radio stations today.

Gary’s passion for music was rivaled only by his love for family.  Coaching hockey for years, following Greg and Dan with their hockey careers, motorcycle racing with Steve, Dan, and later grandson Josh.

Somewhere in all of this, Gary had time to be an active member, and past President of the Port Stanley Optimists Club.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Victoria Hospital Pallative Care, along with Dr. Patrick Luke, Dr. Patrick Colquhaun, and Dr. John Johnson from University Hospital for their kind care.

Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Friday, August 30, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm.  The memorial service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church 55 Hincks Street, St. Thomas on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11:00am.  Interment in Union Cemetery.  If desired, donations to the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.  Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.shawnjacksonfuneralhome.com.
