PoppyPAYNE, Leonard, of St. Thomas, ON,  A King of Men, a gentleman of many talents and a teller of wonderful stories (of which he lived!).  Len passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2013, in his 94th year.  Husband of the late Gilda Payne.  Father of John Payne (Patricia), Christopher Payne and Lehora McIlvaney (Chris).  Grandfather of Jennifer (Tim), Christopher (Celina), Erin and Sarah. Dear friend to Daniel Searle & Leigh Darlington.  Papa to Jack Searle.  Len & Gilda’s beloved puppy, Tootsie passed the same day as Len.   Born in Brighton, England, on May 11, 1920, he was the son of the late Harry and Lillian Payne.  He was a retired Vice President at Hartz Canada Inc., St. Thomas, and the former owner/operator of  Polyknots, St. Thomas.  During WWII, Len served overseas with the British Armed Forces, hard fought, hard won.  He was a member of Lord Elgin Branch #41, Royal Canadian Legion, St. Thomas.  In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation.  A celebration of Len’s life will be held in St.Thomas at a future date.  For those interested in attending, please email darlingtonleigh@gmail.com and we will ensure to advise you of the date.  Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario gratefully acknowledged.  Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
