Darko died on August 7, 2018 at the Huron Lodge Nursing Home in Windsor, ON. A series of strokes, over many years, had diminished his motor abilities but he accepted each one of them with grace, dignity and determination to persevere. His now useless right arm, that had once beat the European heavyweight champion in arm wrestling, was replaced by the left and his athletic soccer legs by his scooter. He continued to live an active life, including travel to Europe and the Philippines. His considerable talent as a cook plus his generous spirit made his home a continually welcoming one to relatives and friends. One had only to cross the threshold to be greeted by “What can I offer you?” He was born on May 27, 1940 in Tihaljina, Croatia to Jelena and Jure Primorac. His education began in Zagreb, where at an early age he showed a gift for drawing and painting that, years later in Canada, led him to the Ontario College of Art and Design and from there to the prestigious Academia de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Spain. His works are found in many private collections and churches in Canada and abroad. His adventurous spirit plus an entrepreneurial bent moved him to relegate the artist’s brush to occasional use as a pastime and to test the waters of the business world, as owner of a travel agency and several restaurants in Spain. Darko was predeceased by his parents and his brother Emil. He is survived by Pepa Orche, the mother of his three children, Emil, Jelena and Zdenka. He also leaves his brother Berislav, sisters Ljerka, Zdenka and Blaženka, grandchildren Ania, Neva, Luca, Mauro, Renata, Javier and Darko, dear friend Tina Stagno and her daughter Neva, 14 nieces and nephews, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. A special mention of gratitude is due to the staff of Huron Lodge for their care and support during his time there. A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m. Burial plans are incomplete.
