PERREAULT, Hélène (née Ouellette) of Sudbury

Posted by on May 7, 2013

PERREAULT, Helene (for Sudbury Star)It is with great sorrow that the family witnessed the peaceful passing of our dear mother at Pioneer Manor on Tuesday, April 30th, 2013 at the age of 100 years. Hélène was born in Bonfield on June 7th, 1912. She graduated from normal school at 16 years old in Sturgeon Falls with a teaching certificate. She was always fashionably dressed to teach and always in her high heel shoes. She gave birth to eight children while she continued to teach. She was very involved in her community in Sturgeon Falls. She sang at church weddings and wrote articles in the “North Bay Nugget” about Sturgeon Falls. She was an active member of the daughters of Isabella and was chosen to give a speech at a daughters of Isabella’s conference in Boston. In 1962, she agreed to move to Sudbury to let her husband fulfill his dream of opening a grocery store. Together, they operated “H.P. Grocery and Confectionary” on Montague Street in Donovan, 7 days a week for 10 years. To better serve her clients, she took a conversational Italian class at night. She would always follow through with her dreams. At 72 years old she decided it was time to take up golf. At close to 60 years old, she decided to get her drivers license. Reading was her passion, she always had a book in her hands. She loved to play bridge and continued to play well into her 90’s. Hélène was the wife of the late Hormidas Perreault (Sudbury citizen of the year in 1975). Hélène was the loving mother of Ronald Perreault (Louise) of Montreal, Lucille Botsford (late Bob) of Fort Frances, Monique Allain (late Sylvio) of Sudbury, Jean-Luc Perreault (Lise) of Iroquois Falls and Francine Blake (Jean Marc) of Montreal and dear sister of Lucille Cusson of Val Caron. She was predeceased by her daughter Géraldine Hingley, two babies Lucette and Michel and by her brothers. Predeceased by her brothers Louis, André, George and Lionel. She will be dearly missed by her 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great great- grandchildren. The family is deeply appreciative of the dedication, compassion and respect displayed by all the staff of Pioneer Manor. They allowed her to maintain her dignity right to the end. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd., Sudbury on Friday, May 3rd, 2013 at 12 p.m. Donations (by cheque only) to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would greatly be appreciated.

LETTS, Audrey of Wiarton and formerly of Cochrane and Georgetown

Posted by on April 15, 2013

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

LETTS, Audrey of Wiarton, and formerly of Cochrane and Georgetown, Ontario passed away at Gateway Haven Nursing Home on Saturday, April 13, 2013 in her 89th year.  Cherished mother of Joseph Letts (Brenda) of Nashua, New Hampshire and Geoffrey Letts (Sandy) of Justin, Texas.  Beloved Grandmother of Briana Meikle, Christopher Letts (Christina) and Chantal Letts.  Audrey will be missed by her sisters Ruby Dick of Seba Beach, Alberta, Betty (Alex) Williams of St. John’s, Newfoundland, brother Barry (Pauline) Hynes and sister-in-law Rowena Hynes of Clarenville, Newfoundland as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.   She was predeceased by her husband Robert, parents Joseph and Dorothy (nee Walker) Hynes, brothers Harry and Ivan, brother-in-law Frank Dick and sister-in-law Genevieve Hynes.

Audrey’s life was one of service to her family, friends and in many cases strangers and the less fortunate.

During World War Two, Audrey proudly served as an Army nurse and she would be sure you knew she served as a Newfoundlander!.  After the war and along with her husband they owned and operated a nursing home for many years in Blenheim, Ontario.  Moving to Georgetown in 1959 she managed the Heather Nursing Home and subsequently was a floor nurse at Peel Manor in Brampton.  Upon retiring she returned to Newfoundland briefly before she and Bob returned to Guelph, Ontario as the property managers of The Willows.

Stories abound about her generosity, from personally paying back rent for families in her buildings to caring for the indigent in her nursing home.  A visiting priest once asked her why she would care for someone that couldn’t pay?  Her reply, “If I didn’t do it, who would?”  His reply was simply, “Your reward will be in Heaven Mrs. Letts.”

Today, she has claimed her eternal reward.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the management and staff of Gateway Haven Long Term Care for their care and compassion over the years.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Audrey will be held at a later date at Saint George’s Anglican Church in Georgetown. Interment will take place beside her husband Robert in Greenwood Cemetery, Georgetown.  Arrangements entrusted to the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, Wiarton.  Donations made to Friends of Gateway Haven Nursing Home of Wiarton would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy.  Condolences may be sent to the family through www.georgefuneralhome.com

Synopsis: Janice Margaret Featherston was born June 30, 1949 into a military family and spent her early years on her grandparents’ farm while her father served his country in Korea. Following his return from the war, the family led a typical military nomad life with postings in Petawawa, Winnipeg and Ottawa among others. She became the typical ‘Army Brat’ and maintained the ‘Brat’ part well beyond the early years.

Following her graduation from Woodroffe High in Ottawa (’68), Jan attended the University of Western Ontario where she was granted a Bachelor of Music, Honors in Music Education (’72) and a Diploma in Education, Post Baccalaureate Program, Althouse College (’73). Armed with her unstoppable desire to teach High School music, Jan responded to a note on the bulletin board at Althouse and soon became one of the founding faculty of what has become the world-renowned Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College. During her tenure, she touched the lives of the vast majority of the students that passed through the halls, many of whom have gone on to be some of the most creative and influential leaders of the international music industry.

Jan was principled woman who wasn’t afraid to stand up for what she believed and did so regularly with an amazing combination of tenacity and compassion. She was true leader whose greatest joy was watching others grow and flower, a real scrapper; who won every battle she took on, except one. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Borrie and the team at the Aging Brain and Memory Clinic at Parkwood Hospital, Betsy Little and everyone at the Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex, and all the staffs at both Horizon Place Retirement Residence and McGarrell Place Long Term Care for all their compassionate and professional support throughout this ordeal.

Claudette (Credger) Innbjor of Sudbury

Posted by on October 23, 2012

November 2, 1940 – October 7, 2012

Born November 2nd, 1940 in Moonbeam Ontario. Beloved wife of Rudolf (Rudy) Innbjor (predeceased). Mother of Chris (wife Sue), Annette Néron (Renzo Cacciotti), Jacqueline Bertrand (Stan Bertrand) and Randi Lachapelle (André Lachapelle).  Treasured friend of Pierre Néron, former son-in-law.  Grandmother to David, Chantal, Ryan, Jeffrey, Carson and little Owen.  Daughter of Alexandrine and Jean-Baptiste Credger.  Sister to Jeannette (Hamel), Elizabeth (Plourde), Claude (predeceased), Paul and Ernie as well as her nieces and nephews.

Mom was a lover of life and having fun!  She was a wonderful Mother and dedicated Grandmother.  She always tried to make the best of every situation, and made sure that everyone around her was well taken care of and happy.  Her strength and courage was admired and cherished by all who knew her.  Somehow this little girl from Chain of Lakes Road in Moonbeam ended up in British Columbia, where her three girls were all born.  Then the call of Northern Ontario brought her back home again.  She so loved her little house along the highway, sitting on the front porch and enjoying the sunset. Her humour and positive spirit will definitely be missed. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Cooperative Funeral Home, 222 Lasalle Blvd., Sudbury, on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. in the Cooperative Funeral Home Chapel.
