Oostveen: John Henry

A long time resident of the Chatham area, John Henry Oostveen died at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Sydenham Campus on Monday May 20, 2013 at the age of 64.  Born in Maartensdyk in The Netherlands on July 11, 1948, son of the late John & Gerarda Oostveen.  Beloved husband of Anne (Murphy) Oostveen.  Loving father of John Oostveen, Megan Oostveen (Ryan Lackey), Thomas Oostveen, and Jaclyn Oostveen.  Proud grandfather of Dawson and Aria Lackey.  Dear brother of Henry Oostveen, Maria Romaschin (Alex), Robert Oostveen (Joanne), and the late Anita Balango, Theresa Hornick, and Frank Oostveen.  He will be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews.  John was employed as a Civil Engineer for many years with the City of Chatham and Chatham-Kent, and more recently with Cole Engineering in Markham.  Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday from 6:00-9:00 p.m.  Funeral Service at the Funeral Home on Saturday May 25, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. C’est avec beaucoup de tristesse que nous vous annonçons le décès de Cindy Bernier, survenu le 20 mai 2013, à l’âge de 46 ans, après un long et courageux combat contre le cancer du lymphome. Elle laisse dans le deuil sa fille adorée Ménaïc Küffer, son conjoint Derek Küffer, sa mère Doris Bernier (feu Nelson Bernier). Elle laisse également dans le deuil de nombreux parents et ami(e)s au Canada et en Suisse. Les funérailles auront lieu le samedi 25 mai 2013 à 11h00 en l’Église Sainte-Marie, 4831 chemin Innes, Orléans. Pour témoigner votre sympathie, vous pouvez envoyer des fleurs. Margaret HammellHAMMELL:  Margaret Elizabeth (nee McMahon)  Passed away peacefully in her hundredth year on Thursday, April 25th 2013 at Fairhaven Home, Peterborough.  Born July 8th, 1913 on Maniece Avenue in East City, she is predeceased by her Husband, William McWillam Hammell of Rutherglen, Scotland.  Margaret is also predeceased by her parents Margaret and Matthew McMahon, and her nine siblings: Sylvester, Frank, Kathleen, Anne, Theresa, George, Bernie, Leo, and Georgina. She leaves behind her twin daughters Margaret and Maureen (Dane Burton), her grandchildren Christian and Carl Murphy, Wyatt (Jessica Finley), Charlotte (Taylor Stock) and Elliott Burton, and great-grandchildren Arianna and Lynden Murphy, Jackson Murphy, and Edith and Alexis Burton.  Margaret attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School, and Peterborough Collegiate Institute. She was a graduate of St Joseph’s Nursing School in Parry Sound, and worked for many years at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Peterborough.  She was a devout catholic; a long serving Theresian and member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 60 years.  She was a gifted quilter, a storyteller and a born entertainer. Whether tap dancing in costume, or pumping out a tune on her organ, she was the life of the party.  Margaret was generous of spirit and the source of counsel and comfort for family and friends. You would always leave better off for having seen her.  Funeral Mass will be held at IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 386  Rogers St., Peterborough, on Monday, April 29th, 2013 at 11am. Interment is at St. Peter’s Cemetery, followed by a reception at Immaculate Conception Church. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and a gentle person with a kind soul. Beloved husband of Helen (Brown) Stanley for 32 years. Dear father of Christine and Matt Loveday of London, Angela and Jeremiah Berry of London and Andrew and Sarah Stanley of Oakville. Dear grandfather of Gabriel and Keagan. Don ElliottELLIOTT, Donald Grant – Retired DuPont Canada-Invista Employee – Peacefully and surrounded by his family at the Brockville GeneralHospital, Palliative Care on Monday, April 15, 2013.  Donald Grant Elliott, at the age of 71 years.  Beloved husband of Sheila (Kennedy) Elliott.  Loving father of Sandra (Craig) Lavery and loving father of Mark (Jo-Anne) Elliott.  Cherished grandfather of Amanda (Mark), Kyle and Kurtis Lavery, Zachary and Grace Elliott.  Also survived by Dear brothers, Raymond (Barbara), Richard (Heather) and Darril (Henny).  Brothers-in-law Carl (Ann) Kennedy, Lyle (Yves) Kennedy and Donnie Kennedy.  Sisters-in-law Marie (Claire) Porteous, Sharon (Dalton) Gilmer, Beverly Richardson and Debbie (Paul) Gaw.  As well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Eileen (nee Parker)  Elliott.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Barclay Funeral Home 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Service in celebration of Don’s life will be held in the chapel on Friday April 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland.  As expressions of sympathy donations to the St. James Masonic Lodge, No.74, Mallorytown United Church, the Order of the Eastern Star Violet Chapter No.206 Prescott or the Cancer Society would be appreciated.  Officers and members of St. James Lodge No.74 A.F & A.M., GRC will gather for a Memorial Service on Thursday evening at 6:30 pm. Peacefully, surrounded by his family at the PRHC on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the age of 64, after a brief battle with cancer.  Husband of the late Bonnie McKeiver (1997).  Special friend of Nancy Collins.  Loving father of Steven (Cindy), Brent, and Matthew (Melissa).  Grandfather of Matalyn, Owen, Cody, and Jesse Scott, and step grandfather to Justin.  Brother of Dennie (Marion), Pat, Tom (Denise) Brian (Jill), Leo, Joe, Debbie, Barb Leahy (Ron Fulton), Mary (Paul O’Brien), Pauline (Ken McMillan), and Patricia Fitzgerald (Gene McMahon).  Brother-in-law of Ted McKeiver (Sylvia).  Predeceased by parents Frank and Anne Scott, and brother Harold Scott, Sister Stella O’Grady, brother-in-laws Clare O’Grady, Ken Fitzgerald, and Rip Van Allen, sisters-in-law Joan McKiever and Hilda Van Allen. Wayne will be missed by many nieces and nephews.
