FRANCIS, Helen Gwendolyn, of Belleville, passed away at McQuigge Lodge Nursing Home on Sunday, May 19th, in her 94th year. Daughter of the late Mildred and Alexander Bell, of Pembroke. Beloved wife of the Late Stanley Francis. Dear mother of John (Judith), of Whitby, and Judy (Ron) Murphy, of Roslin.  Predeceased by one daughter Ruth Boyce, and by one grandson, Robert Boyce. Loving grandmother of Jessica, Kallie, Charles, James and Elizabeth.

As per Helen’s wishes, she has been cremated, and her cremains will be interred at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Stirling.

Cropped PhotoPhieffer, Donald Wayne – suddenly at Kingston General Hospital on Wednesday, May 15th, 2013 in his 68th year.  Son of the late Harry & Annabelle Phieffer.  Beloved  husband of Marie Phieffer (nee Chambers) of Belleville.  Loving father of Kelly (Glen) Dayton of Trenton and David Phieffer (fiancé Rachel) of Ottawa.  Much loved Grandpa of Sarah, Lauren and Emma Dayton.  Dear brother of Neil (Beth), Rosemary (Ken) Istead, Rick (Adele), Fred (Jayne) and Terry.  He is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.  Don retired from the Hastings Prince Edward County School Board as Lead Hand Custodian with 31 years of service.

SuddsDorisSudds, Dorris Irene (Best) – Former Napanee resident Dorris Sudds passed away peacefully on May 4, 2013 at Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ottawa, with her daughter Bonnilea at her side, she was in her 90th year. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred in 1976 and her son Wayne in 1996. Dear sister of Muriel Jarvis of Napanee and beloved mother of Roy and his wife Carol of Brockville, daughter-in-law Diane of Kitchener, Larry and his wife Linda of Prescott, John and his wife Marie of Ottawa, Robert (Bob) and his wife Kim of Arnprior, Bonnilea and her husband Demetre of Ziakas Greece. Daughter-in-law Jean Michalz of Niagara Falls. She will be also missed by her cousin and close friend Dorothy Perrin of Toronto, and all of her many close relatives and friends. Predeceased by her mother and father; Alfred and Mary (Minnie) Best and brother Alfred and sister Kay. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Stephanie, Laurie, Julie, Bruce, Konstance, Melissa, Justin, Alexander, Jenna, Ryan, Samantha & Patrick and by her twelve great-grandchildren. Born in Toronto on February 8, 1924 she was a graduate of Shaw Business College and moved to Napanee in 1959 where she lived for more than 45 years. She was well known throughout the area for her active involvement in political and volunteer work, including Chairman of the Housing Authority, President of the Napanee Seniors Club and Secretary for the United Senior Citizens of Ontario and was a past president of the Rebekahs as well as, volunteering with the Hospital Auxillary and the Canadian Cancer Society. She continued to live a very full and active life until shortly before her passing and will continue to be a true role model and inspiration for all that knew her. A woman of tremendous courage and commitment, her love, intelligence, humour, and generosity will be greatly missed. Brintnell, Ruth Lillian – on Saturday, April 13, 2013 in her 92 year.  Daughter of the late Charles and Lillie Brintnell formerly of Plainfield.  Ruth is survived by her brothers, Harold Brintnell of Madoc and Joseph (Barbara) Brintnell of Ottawa. She is predeceased by her sisters-in-law, Ruby and Kathleen Brintnell.  Ruth is fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews; Leigh Brintnell of Madoc, Lesley Ann (Gene) McCambridge of Barry’s Bay, Larry (Karen) Brintnell of Batawa, Susan (Vince) Palermo of Port Perry, Vince (Karen) Brintnell of Stirling and great nieces and nephews; Charlie, Tom, Kiara, Justin, Kari, Leigh, Eric, Tara-Kay, Amelia and Logan. Ruth retired from teaching at Albert College in 1976 after nearly 20 years of service. She then took her skills to the Belleville Corby Library, Reference Department until 1987 where she also ran the Visiting Library for Shut-ins.  She was a longtime volunteer with St. John Ambulance and in 1976 was invested to the Order of St. John as Serving Sister with a lifetime rank as Officer Sister. 

A Memorial Service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held at the Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, 30 Moira Street West (613-968-2273) on Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation from 11:30 until the time of service.  Inurnment at Foxboro Cemetery.

Hinderle, Elizabeth – of Quinte Gardens and formerly of Lemoine Street, peacefully at Belleville General Hospital on Wednesday, April 17th, 2013. Daughter of the late Josef and Katharina Gottstein of Germany. Predeceased by her two brothers, Anton and Eugene. Survived by Wilf (Lynn) of Toronto, Gunter (Deanna) of Aldergrove, BC, Bianca (Randy) Brown of Foxboro and Terry (Annette) of Surrey, BC. Proud grandmother of; Joel, Danna (Bryan) Hinderle, Alex (Angie) and Graeme (Monika) Brown, Lindsay (Paul) Fyke and Melissa and Darren Hinderle. Doting great-grandmother (Oma) of Jordan, Noah and Caleb Hinderle, Alexander and Christopher Brown, Hunter, Andrew and Ryan Fyke, and William Brown.

At Elizabeth’s request there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and there will be a family interment at Elmwood Cemetery at a later date. Synopsis: Janice Margaret Featherston was born June 30, 1949 into a military family and spent her early years on her grandparents’ farm while her father served his country in Korea. Following his return from the war, the family led a typical military nomad life with postings in Petawawa, Winnipeg and Ottawa among others. She became the typical ‘Army Brat’ and maintained the ‘Brat’ part well beyond the early years.

Following her graduation from Woodroffe High in Ottawa (’68), Jan attended the University of Western Ontario where she was granted a Bachelor of Music, Honors in Music Education (’72) and a Diploma in Education, Post Baccalaureate Program, Althouse College (’73). Armed with her unstoppable desire to teach High School music, Jan responded to a note on the bulletin board at Althouse and soon became one of the founding faculty of what has become the world-renowned Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College. During her tenure, she touched the lives of the vast majority of the students that passed through the halls, many of whom have gone on to be some of the most creative and influential leaders of the international music industry.

Jan was principled woman who wasn’t afraid to stand up for what she believed and did so regularly with an amazing combination of tenacity and compassion. She was true leader whose greatest joy was watching others grow and flower, a real scrapper; who won every battle she took on, except one. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Borrie and the team at the Aging Brain and Memory Clinic at Parkwood Hospital, Betsy Little and everyone at the Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex, and all the staffs at both Horizon Place Retirement Residence and McGarrell Place Long Term Care for all their compassionate and professional support throughout this ordeal.

A remembrance will be held at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London Ontario between 7:00 and 9:00 PM on Friday April 12. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society London & Middlesex www.alzheimerlondon.ca.

The family will receive friends at the Steele Funeral Home, 30 Moira Street West, on Wednesday, March 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.  Following a private burial service at Belleville Cemetery on Thursday, March 28th, the family will also receive friends at the First Pentecostal Church, Dundas Street West, from 11:00 A.M., where “A Gathering of Remembrance” will take place, with an opportunity for family and friends to share both memories and refreshments.

burkitt 25Burkitt, Joyce Evelyn – peacefully, surrounded by her family, at QHC- Trenton Memorial Hospital on Sunday, March 24th, 2013.   Evelyn Burkitt of Frankford in her 80th year.  Daughter of the late Henry and Mary Emerson.  Beloved wife of Bob Burkitt.  Loving mother of Maribeth DeSnoo (Kerry McConkey) and George (Rhonda) Burkitt both of Frankford.  Cherished grandmother of Mitchell, Lacey, Bob and Alexandra.  Dear sister of Mary Sills (the late Russell Sills) of Stirling and sister-in-law of Helen Mussell (Norman Bird) of Stratford.  Remembered by her nephew Dr. Allan Mussell (Dr. Alison Duncan).

Entered into rest on Friday, March 22nd, 2013 at St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital in his 75th year.  Beloved husband of the late Sheila Storms.  Loved father of Greg hope (Thelma) and Wendy MacDonald (Terry).  Dear grandfather of Nick and Lyndsey Hope, Tye and Jazmine MacDonald.  Survived by his sister Margaret in Calgary.
