Peacefully on Sunday, July 28, 2013, James “Jim” Malcolm Grasse passed away at Bluewater Health at the age of 76.  Loving father of James Jr. and his wife Melissa. Cherished grandfather of Zoe, Jackson and Carter. Dear brother of Charles “Sonny” Grasse and his family.  Jim was a welder and loved to build boats. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed meeting at coffee shops to chat with his friends. Jim will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.  Cremation has taken place. An open house to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Smith Family Centre (in front of Smith Funeral Home), 1576 London Line, Sarnia. Peacefully, at University Hospital in London on Friday, July 26th, Franciscus Adrianus Wilhelmus Bertens at the age of 83.  Beloved husband of Rieka (de Kort) for almost 60 years.   Cherished father of Mary and Greg McNeil, Harriet and Bill Potters, Judy Ann and Jeff Sadler, Linda and Steve Delany, Pauline and Joseph VanDerVelden, Richard and Carolynn Bertens, Robert and Melanie Bertens, Irene and Paul Johnson.   Predeceased by sons Andrew (1954) and Edward (1983).   Dear Opa to Lindsay (Chris Tansey), Michael, Mark, Meghan, Carly (Klaus Werner), Denby, Emily, Trent, Amber, Cole, Grace, Claire, Courtney, William, Matthew, Amanda, Sara and Marie.  Great Opa of Hailey and Hannah.  Little brother of Piet (late Jo de Kort) and Wim of The Netherlands and Gerry (Annie de Kort) and Anne (late Ad de Kort) in Canada.  Predeceased by siblings Lies (late Willem van Laak), Miet (late Janus van Esch), Jan, and Jos (Tiny de Kort) of The Netherlands.  Loving brother-in-law of John and Lucy (de Kort) Van Haaren and Louis de Kort (late Mary) in Canada, and Annie de Kort (late Jan), Leo and Zus (de Kort) van Kasteren, Piet and Nel de Kort, and Rien and Ria de Kort in the Netherlands.  Frank also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and close friends.  Frank was born on September 20, 1929 in Enschot, The Netherlands, the youngest of a family of nine.  In 1952 Frank immigrated to Canada to find a future in farming and returned to The Netherlands to marry the love of his life in 1954 as part of the famous “Six Couples” wedding.  Frank was a proud Canadian farmer for over 45 years, mostly at Spruce Lane Farm in Westminster Township.  He and Rieka retired to a beautiful home on Westminster Drive in 1996.  Frank was a loving Father and Opa to eight children, eighteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.  He had many hobbies that he enjoyed particularly gardening, playing cards, raising pigeons, photography, and the latest high-tech gadgets.  We will never forget his enchanting smile.  The family will receive relatives and friends at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street, London, on Monday July 29th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 30th at 11 a.m. at St. Justin’s Parish 855 Jalna Blvd., London; celebrated by Father Dan Vere.  Following the Funeral Mass, a reception will be held at St. Justin’s Parish Hall, after which interment will take place at St. Peter’s Cemetery. DELDUCA-McDONALD, Valerie Theresa

Delduca-McDonald canobitsPassed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 28, 2013.  Valerie was the loving wife of Daniel McDonald, mother and inspiration to her daughters Carla Liberta (Christopher) and Michelle Barillaro.  She was the adored and loving grandmother of Mateo and Amilia Liberta, and step-grandmother of Bryan, Evan and Dylan Hartmann and Duncan McDonald.  Much loved and very fondly remembered by Julie Hartmann (Bryce) and Andrew McDonald (Christina).  She will be sadly missed by her surviving sisters Patricia Holmes (George), Loretta Keating (Ronald) and Carol Spencer (Dr William) and by her brother Michael Delduca (Sandra).  She was “Aunt Val” and guiding light to several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, each of whom had a special place in her heart.  Predeceased by her parents Myer and Louise Delduca.  Valerie began her working life as a young girl at her father’s motel “The Homestead” where she learned the valuable life lessons which enabled her to be successful in her later careers at Intra Flarity Travel, as the owner of Hogan’s Restaurant, as business manager at a local automobile dealership and until recently as the manager of husband Daniel’s law office.  In each of her careers Valerie made lasting friendships with work colleagues, customers and clients who will miss her humour and constant effervescence.  She will be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, integrity and love of laughter, always seeing the positive side of every situation.  Valerie always considered the comfort and needs of others before her own.  A truly remarkable woman she will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched.

Peacefully at Bluewater Health Sarnia, Alex  passed away on July 18 after a brief illness at the age of 65.  He leaves behind his loving wife, Barb, of 43 years; his daughter Jen (Warren) Glaister of Sarnia;  his son Sean (Dawn) of Fergus;  6 grandchildren – Maddy, Mya, Carrington, Kai, Evan and Kenzie;  his mother Eda of Toronto;  sisters-in-law Yvonne (Dave) Crook of Nova Scotia and Millee (Claude) Sartorio of Switzerland;  a niece, a nephew, 3 great-nieces and a great-nephew;  many cousins and relatives in both Canada and Germany. Clara May born, June 1, 1920, in Yarbo, Saskatchewan, peacefully passed away on July 26, 2013 at Bluewater Health, Sarnia at the age of 93.
Loving partner and companion to Ray Williams.  Predeceased by her husband Walter (Wally) Batson (October 10, 1975) and her parents Joseph and Ellen Timmins and sisters, Rosalie and Eileen.   Loving mother to LeRoy (Kitty) Batson, Shirley (the Late Blake, 2008) Cochrane, Harold (Barb) Batson and Ken Batson. Cherished grandmother of ten grandchildren and great grandmother of twenty. Gramma to the Williams Family.
Clara lived in the same house on Louisa Street, in Point Edward for over 63 years. She always had a smile on her face and an optimistic outlook on life, loved birds, country and western music and crosswords. With Ray, she enjoyed fishing and the trailer life during the summer in the Chatham Area.

It is with profound sorrow and regret that we announce Garry’s passing.   Garry leaves behind Michelle, his wife of 18 years. His Children, son Rod (Igna), his son Ryan (Dana), his daughter, Brittnee Froats (Danielle), step-daughters, Joy Gerwien (Keith) AB, Lorie Lynds, and Kelly Parasynchuk (Dave) AB. His grandchildren, Dylan (Alannah), Brigitte, Zander, Rylee, Hannah, Connor, Kayleigh, Heather, Evan, David, Bradley. Garry also leaves his brother, Bob (Nancy) and sister Judy (Wayne), and their children.   Garry was predeceased by his father Bert (1988) and mother Grace (2006).    Per Garry’s wishes there will be no services. PONS obituary picture for webPeacefully at Twin Lakes Terrace Nursing Home on Monday, July 22, 2013, Alice “Alison” Pons of Sarnia, beloved wife of the late Eric Pons, passed away at the age of 83.  Born in Liverpool, England, Alison moved to Canada in 1979 to be with her children. Alison’s passion was her family and her greatest loves in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered as a kind and classy lady. She had a loving, generous heart and a wonderful smile.   Her memory will be forever cherished by her son Ray and his wife Marva, daughter Christine and her husband Geoff, her grandchildren, Patricia (Ruddy), Laura (Jean-Francois), Brad (Jennifer) and Darien; and her great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Isaac, Olivia, Gabriel and Beau.  Cremation has taken place.  Peacefully at her residence, Delta on Sunday July 28, 2013.  Rhena Pratt in her 86th year. Beloved Daughter of the Late Addie and Benjamin Pratt.  Dear Sister of Allan Pratt of Napanee. Predeceased by sister, Helena Case and brothers, Glen, William, Lloyd, Ivan, Buddy and Donald Pratt. Fondly remembered by sisters in law, Florence and Iva Pratt both of Delta. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the SCOTLAND FUNERAL HOME, 27 Main Street, Elgin on Wednesday from 12 Noon until time of Funeral Service in Our Chapel at 2 o’clock. web_Campbell, CharlesDied peacefully in the presence of his family on July 27, 2013 at the Hospice Residential Home, 75 years of age.  Beloved husband of Jo-Ann.  Father to Jeff (Denise), and Chad (Melanie).  Sonny grew up as a “rink rat” and had many stories that he shared with his family and friends. He joined the navy when he was 18 and continued to play sports throughout his life. He was a passionate & loyal Boston Red Sox fan and was able to spend many games at Fenway Park in his later years.  Member of the Windsor Euchre League and R.C.L. McDONALD, James, square73 years, of Tilbury, passed away at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Saturday, July 27, 2013.  Beloved husband of the late Carol (Ellwood).  Loving father of Scott and wife Darlene.  Dearest grandpa of Jordan and Jason.  Predeceased by parents Jerome & Mary (Marshall) McDonald.  Dear brother of the late Jerome “Jerry” McDonald and Margaret Carson.  Jim enjoyed his hobby of raising pigeons for most of his life, and was a retiree of International Harvester in Chatham.  In respect of Jim’s wishes, there will be no visitation.  Following cremation, a private family committal service will be held at a later date at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.  Memorial donations to the O.S.P.C.A. appreciated.  Online condolences may be shared at www.reaumefh.com

Peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2013 John James Whates age 79 of Petrolia, passed away at C.E.E. Hospital Petrolia.

Loving husband of Barb Whates (nee: Gilbert) of 34 years.

Survived by Howard and Brenda Brown.

Grandpa John to Dylan and Emma Brown.

John was a lifetime member of the Sarnia Kinsmen and K40 club, and on the Board of the Sarnia Musician Union.

He was also a member of  the Governor General’s Footguard Band, and owner of two McDonalds Restaurants  in Sarnia from 1973-1984.

Predeceased by his parents Tom(1989) and Florence(1997).

Cremation has taken place. At John’s request there will be no visitation, and a private family service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Petrolia Minor Hockey Association or C.E.E. Hospital Foundation.
