It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Marlene Dempsey (nee Taggart) on Wednesday, December 21, 2016.  After many years of dealing with her illness she has found peace. Beloved mother of Kate Delaire (Trevor) and Elaine Dempsey (Dave Ainsworth).  Special Gran to Rachel Wierenga (Jesse), Spencer and the late Ainsley Delaire. Marlene enjoyed a successful career at Marshall Gowland Manor for 26 years.  She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the British Overseas Club. Marlene cherished her many friendships and was grateful for their support throughout the years. Special thanks to Dr. Crombeen and the nursing staff in the Stroke Unit and Palliative Care Unit at Bluewater Health. Marlene had a smile for everyone and will be dearly missed. A funeral service will be held at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., with family and friends being received one hour prior. Cremation will follow. A private burial of ashes will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Ainsley Delaire Memorial Fund at the London Community Foundation would be appreciated (cheques only at the funeral home please).

JULIAN: Robert John

Peacefully, on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, Robert John Julian passed away at Bluewater Health at the age of 90. Beloved husband of the late Joan Colbert. Fondly remembered by Shirley Julian, Diane Julian, Dick (Shirley Cullen) Julian, and Marie McCulloch. Dear uncle of John Maynard, Peter Maynard, Bob Julian, Steve Julian, Ted Julian, and Katie Julian. Predeceased by his parents F.T. Julian and Eleanor Julian, sister Margaret Maynard, and brother Peter Julian. After serving in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War, Robert enrolled in the Forestry Engineering Program at the University of Toronto. With his degree, Robert worked in Forestry in Northern Ontario for 10 years. Following that career, Robert then pursued teachers college and became a teacher at St. Clair High School. The family wishes to thank the staff on the 3rd floor Surgical Unit at Bluewater Health for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. An interment will take place at a later date.

Passed away peacefully on December 30, 2016 at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg, at the age of 91. Beloved husband of the late (2002) Angeline (nee Samarco).  Loving father of the late (2013) Linda Lee Marie Lake (Glenn) of Peterborough and the late (2013) Terry John Tarajos (Margot) of Roseneath.  Loving grandfather of Jeffery Lake (Carol) of Milton and their children Bonnie and Shaun; and Jason Lake (Manon) of Pickering and their children Benjamin and Alexandra.  Joe was born in Welland, Ontario and was a retired CNR Engineer.  The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of NHH for their compassion and care of Joe.  As per Joe’s wishes, there will be no service.  A private family interment and celebration of Joe’s life will occur at a later date.  Donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.  Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.

REID: Robert J. of Chatham.

Robert J. Reid, a resident of Chatham Retirement Resort, passed away on Saturday, December 31st, 2016 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of the late Jean Catherine (1975) and Lois Jean, whom he married in 1978. Son of the late James and Edith Reid. Robert worked at Chatham Hydro for 38 years, and proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. He is survived by his two daughters, Shannon of Calgary, and Jan of London; his granddaughter Tiffany, and two great grandchildren. Robert will be missed by his step children Barbara Goodall and Danny Orson. In keeping with Bob’s wishes cremation has taken place, with private interment to follow in Arnold Cemetery. Pearson: Anthony (Tony) of Brampton

Anthony (Tony) George Wallace Pearson of Brampton, ON passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 23rd 2016 at the age of 74.

Tony was born to parents George and Eva Pearson on December 7th 1942 in Ottawa ON. He was the oldest of four and as a natural salesman, traveled across Canada representing a variety of companies in his career. Most of all, Tony was a family man and a kind husband and father, taking great pleasure in leisure drives with the family, Sunday brunch and keeping up with the latest automobile trends.

The final years of his life was spent living with multiple sclerosis with his humour, positivity and courage intact. He will be missed but not forgotten.

Tony is survived by his wife Anne and son David.

There will not be a public service, the family respectfully declines flowers and donations.

Its with regret we announce the passing of Don Erskine in his 95th year. At the same time we celebrate the transition of his life here into the next with Jesus.
Erskine, Donald Graham January 26 1922 – December 26 2016 Peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.  Don in his 95th year has moved on to be with Jesus, his Lord. The Son of Arthur and Mary Erskine, Beloved husband of Ruth Jean Erskine (nee Southern) of 65 years.  Loving Father of Doug Erskine of Phuket Thailand, Rick (Lita) Erskine of Jeddah Saudi Arabia, Paul (Janet) Erskine of Binbrook Ontario and Tim (Ritva) Erskine of Ottawa, Ontario.  Loving Grandfather to Darryl, Andrea, Natasha, Joshua, Joel, Sarah, Jonathon and Nicholas. Great Grandfather to Corban, Kayley, Kendall, Paul and Ruth.   Predeceased by his Loving Sister Jean Isabel Feasby and her husband Wilf Feasby. He will be missed by Jean and Wilf’s children Tom (Isabel), Jim (Linda), and Anne Hendrie (Peter) and their many family members. He will also missed by his sister Inlaw Noni and Husband John McColm and family, Gwen (Colin) Reynolds, Margie (Mike) O’Donnell, Pat McColm and their many family members.
Don began his years in Regina moving on to Lambeth, London and marrying to move on to Sudbury, Burlington, Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Etobicoke and finally Palermo Oakville. Don and Ruth spent many wonderful summers with family at their Cottage on Round Lake and winters in their Florida residence in Riverwoods Plantation.
Don’s great love in life was music, playing violin in four different Symphony Orchestras including Regina, London and Hamilton philharmonic Symphonies and he played trumpet in various dance bands including The Johnny Downs band in the 1940’s and kept playing trumpet in various bands until he was in his 80’s.  He also taught himself to play piano and composed several songs that we still listen to today. In his 70’s and 80’s he entertained with the piano in many venues. It seemed which ever instrument he chose he found a way to master it.
Don completed University at Western in London and joined the RCAF in 1944 during World War II. He was selected as a fighter pilot but later trained as a flight engineer to join the war effort aboard a Lancaster Bomber. The war ended before he could go to action.

To be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 3114 Dundas St W, Oakville, ON L6M 4J3.

LINDA PEVEC; 1953 – 2016 – Peacefully surrounded by her family at Bluewater Health Palliative Care Unit on Saturday, December 31, 2016, Linda passed away peacefully at the age of 63. She was the beloved wife of Michael for 43 years and proud mother of Michael (Crystal) and Peter (Antonella). She was the grandmother of Robert, Luka, Ashton and Seth. She was predeceased by her parents Victor and Margery Schmitt of Kitchener. Linda worked for 30 years as a PSW and loved gardening, her cats, driving her Mustang and Jazz music. Hawkins, ,William (Retired Belleville OPP Detachment Commander),  passed away at QHC-Belleville General Hospital on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at the age of 76. Beloved husband of Shirley (nee Cronk) Hawkins.He was predeceased by his parents, the Late Jesse and Beulah (nee Ford) Hawkins. Dear father of Kimberly and Jennifer Hawkins, both of Belleville, Calvin, of BC, and Christopher (Kristy) of Woodstock, ON. Bill was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Matthew (Nikki), and Joshua Gjelstad; and Caitlyn, Jesse, Ellie, and Cooper Hawkins. Bill was also loved by four great-grandchildren: Noah, Hannah, Mikaela, and Joshua. Bill is  survived by two sisters, Marion (David) Weedmark, of London, and Gloria (Leo) Heyboer, of Kingsville. Bill will be sadly missed also by Shirley’s family: sisters Doris Smith and Mary (Ross) Lumley, both of Belleville, and brothers Harold Cronk of Wellington and Walter (Judy) Cronk of Bloomfield. Bill was also respected by several nieces and nephews.

Passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the age of 64.  Beloved husband of Alison Thoms (deceased). Dear father of Leslie-Anne (Nicholas), and Jennifer (Matthew). Loving papa of Cyrus, Sawyer and Kalvin. Brother of the late Michael Thoms (survived by Karen), the late Cyndi Bressette (survived by Bob), Jim Thoms (Leanne), Joanne Thoms (Jack), Rose Marie Hook (Gerard), Terry Thoms (Irene) and Cathy Lesperance (Andrew).  He will be sadly missed by his many Nieces, Nephews and extended family.

Harrington, Marilyn Jean (Nee Badour)

FRENCH, GAIL – It is with profound sadness that we announce the  passing of Gail French on Thursday, December 29th, 2016 at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie. Gail is survived by her loving husband, Bill French and her brother Louie Button. She will be sadly missed by her children Michael (Kerri), Faith (late James Hook), Jennifer (Raymond).  As well as her grandchildren, Christopher, Codi, Samantha, Kira, Makenna and Kaeden. She will be fondly remembered by her extended family as well as many friends.  Gail was always a champion for the less fortunate and always ready with a welcoming hug and a listening ear for her family, friends and the community at large.  Service will take place on Thursday January 5th, at 11:00 am at St. John Vianney Church, 13 Baldwin Lane Barrie. MacVICAR, William D. “Bill”, of St. Thomas, passed away at Extendicare, Port Stanley on Saturday, December 31, 2016, in his 87th year.  Beloved husband of Margaret (nee Thompson) MacVicar.  Father of Jim MacVicar (Nancy) of Devon, AB, Steven MacVicar of Bracebridge, Bill MacVicar, Linda Neil, both of St. Thomas, Kevin Baker (Karen) of Peterborough, Mark Baker (Wendy), and Lisa Walker (Wayne), all of St. Thomas.  Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and sisters-in-law, Julie Thompson of St. Thomas, Vivian Anger of Belmont, and Dorothy Beattie of Aylmer.  Born in Chatham, ON, February 27, 1930, he was the son of the late Lorne and Helen (nee Rose) MacVicar.  Bill was a retired Clevite Limited, St. Thomas accountant.  He was a member of the Evangelical Missionary Church, St. Thomas and a former long-time active member of Alma St. Presbyterian Church.  The funeral and committal service will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will be made privately in Elmdale Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Wednesday evening, January 4th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service.  Memorial donations to the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged.

McINTOSH, Miss Grace, of R.R.#1, Southwold, passed away at Oneida Long Term Care on Friday, December 30, 2016, in her 88th year.  Dear sister of M. Janet Beharrell (Ralph) of R.R.#1, Southwold.  Loved aunt of Bradley Beharrell (Kate) of R.R.#1, Southwold.  Loving great aunt of Caleb, Amelia and Ben Beharrell.  Born in Southwold Twp., ON, May 17, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Margaret (nee Annett) McIntosh.  Grace was a former elementary school teacher at both urban and rural schools (grades 1-8).  She was a graduate of the London Normal School and the University of Western Ontario’s A.W.C.M. (piano).  Grace was a member of Central United Church, St. Thomas, and a former member of the church choir (for 40 years).  Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) where the funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.  Interment in McArthur Cemetery, Southwold Twp. at a later date.  Memorial donations to Central United Church (Music Dept.) will be gratefully acknowledged.

NEWTON, Mrs. Daphne (nee Silver), of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Friday, December 30, 2016, in her 93rd year.  Wife of 63 years to the late Howard Newton (2006).  Mother of Lee Newton (Jocelyne) of Montréal, and the late Glenn Newton (1988) (Jeannie of Lambeth).  Grandmother of Trisha, Lori, Sarah, Heather, Trevor, Sammy and Liana.  Great grandmother of Tara, Tyler, Taya, Jackson, and Heron.  Great great grandmother of Mackenzie.  Born in Fleet, England, May 23, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Ella Rose (nee Moody) Silver.  She was an English war bride.  Daphne was a member of the St. Thomas Seniors’ Centre and a former volunteer at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Tuck Shop.  Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) where a private funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.  Cremation to follow.  Memorial donations to the St. Thomas Seniors’ Centre gratefully acknowledged.

CRAWFORD, Leonard Francis – World War II Veteran and faithful member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #624 Wilberforce – peacefully at his residence in Harcourt Park on Monday, September 19, 2016 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Gladys (2009). Devoted father of Richard (Grace) of Markham , Charles (Nancy) of Harcourt Park, Wayne of Oshawa and Karen of Oshawa. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Erin (Marlon), Marie, Joanne (Chad), Danny, Julie (Greg), Shaney and his great grandchildren Myles, Noah, Ethan, Adam, Liam, Zoey, Connor, Patrick and Evan. Survived by his brother Merton of Oshawa.

Surrounded by family, Frances (Fran) Letourneau (nee Maidment) went to be with her Lord on August 15th, 2016 at the North Lambton Lodge in Forest, Ontario. Frances was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother and will be deeply missed by all her family. Born in Petrolia, Ontario on May 6th, 1923, Fran was the youngest of four children who lived through the war years as a WAC in the Canadian Armed Forces. She had been a member of Huron Baptist Church in Sarnia.

Fran was the beloved wife of Hubert Francis Letourneau (1989) and is survived by her four children: Martin Letourneau (Diana), Judy Goodhand (Gary), Wendy Fuller (John) and Tom Letourneau (Sara). She is sadly missed by her grandchildren; Christopher Letourneau (Lisa), Jamie Letourneau (Vicki), Nikki Letourneau, Stacey Bourke (Matt), David Hanlon (Kelly), Brian Hanlon, Janet-Marie Maharaj (Mike), Rebekah Scott (Kent), Tim Fuller, Meghan Letourneau, Gavin Letourneau (Brooklyn), Martin Letourneau, Josh Letourneau, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and also many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by parents Alvin and Elizabeth, and brothers James Maidment and Martin Maidment and sister Helen Maidment.

At mom’s request cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.

Provot, Allan Frederick of London, in his 87th year passed peacefully with his family at his side on December 24,2016 at University Hospital in London, Ontario. Beloved wife of 65 years, Ruth (Welcher). Loving father of Dorothy Harris, Nancy Drexler (Ray), Bonnie Whitfield (Rob), Joyce Anderson Tesmer (Bob), Gail Kerr (John) and Rick Provot (Sue). Survived by his brothers Albert Provot and David Provot and his sister Vivian Miller. Loving Grandfather of 15 Grandchildren and 27 Great Grandchildren. Predeceased by his father Norman F Provot, Mother Kathleen Ridley, and Step Mother Helen Glass, his siblings Leeota Morse, Kathleen Madison, Alvin Provot, Daughter Ida Louise Provot, Grandson Jeramie Drexler, and son in Law Bob Harris. Al was a Korean War Vet in the US Military; he worked in the Pamour Gold Mines in Timmins Ontario and was proud owner of Al’s Pizza in Guelph, Ontario for 12 years. Al will be missed for his quiet strength, sneaky humour, predictability, love of 649 and the Toronto Blue Jays, but most of all for his limitless amounts of cookies and Christmas candy (even in July). As per his request cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. The family sincerely thanks the staff at University Hospital, London, Ontario for their outstanding care and compassion.

Elizabeth Coriene Fischer (née Anstett) of R.R. #2 Mildmay, passed away suddenly with family by her side at Brucelea Haven, Walkerton on Thursday, December 29th, 2016 in her 80th year.

Beloved wife of Tom Fischer.

Loving mother of Greg Fischer (Paula) of R. R. #2 Teeswater, Gary Fischer (Joan) of R.R. #4 Walkerton, Shelley Weber (Gerald) of R. R. #2 Mildmay, Sherry Cronin (Paul) of Teeswater, Grant Fischer (Diana) of Toronto and Graham Fischer (Matt Schroeder) of R.R. #2 Mildmay.

Sadly missed by her 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Tiffin Funeral Home, Teeswater on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8:30, followed by Vigil Prayers at 8:45. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Formosa on Thursday, January 5th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Father Michael Anderson officiating.
