CRABBS, Donald – Peacefully at   the Woodstock Hospital on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, Donald E. Crabbs of Woodstock, in his 93rd year.  Husband of the late Eleanor Crabbs (formerly Carter, nee Barber) (2011) and Cleo Crabbs (nee Hood) (1978).  Father of Phillip of Bandon, Oregon and the late Ronald (1991) and Pamela (1974).  Stepfather of Dr. Paul Carter (Lucy) of Woodstock.  Grandfather of Christopher Carter (Jennifer) of Ottawa, Barbara Carter (Michael) of Calgary, Stephanie Carter of Toronto, and Scott Carter (Farrah) of Thornbury and the late Ronald (1971) and Danielle (1982).  Great grandfather of Zoe, Owen, Alice, Lucy, Blythe, and Mathew.  Brother of Robert (Mary) of Florida and the late Roger.  Donald began work for FMC in 1942 and retired in 1985 after spending the last 20 years as Plant Manager in Woodstock.  Friends will be received at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington Street North, Woodstock on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm for a funeral service in the chapel at 2:30 pm.  Cremation followed by interment later at Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery.  If desired, memorial donations to the Woodstock Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Oxford would be appreciated.  Smith-LeRoy, (519) 537-3611. Sharon Gannon of Belleville passed away peacefully surrounded by family at QHC-Belleville General Hospital on August 30, 2013.  She was the beloved daughter of the late Jack and Velma Way of West Lake. She is survived by the love of her life, her darling husband John Joseph James Gannon, and her two precious sons, Jeffrey Gannon and (Sue) of Cranbourne Australia, as well as Jay and (Natalie McDonald) and her precious granddaughter Penelope Mariko Gannon, of Belleville. Sharon will be missed by her three stepchildren, Cheryl, Dennis, and Paul (Janet) Gannon and her step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Justin, Bradley, and Nicholas.  Sharon is survived by her sisters, Norene Vickers of Sparks, Nevada and Ronda Way of Kitchener.  She is also remembered by her brother-in-law Chris McLeod and her sisters-in-law, Barb Burrowes, Barbie Gannon, Pat Gannon and Dorothy Burke. Predeceased by brothers, Bill Peeling, Lawrence Way, Lionel Way and sisters, Lois Reid, Dolores Wright, and Denita McLeod. Missing her laughter are many beautiful nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. She will also be missed by her furry friends, who left paw prints on her heart.  Donations may be made to Gleaners Food Bank (613-962-9043) or SickKids Foundation (1-800-661-1083).  A casual party with music and food will be held to celebrate Sharon’s life at Parkdale Community Centre on Saturday, October 12th from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Suddenly at Kingston General Hospital on Monday, September 2, 2013, Mrs. Susan Mary (Humphreys) Barker of Listowel, in her 65th year.  Beloved wife of the late Don Barker.  Dear mother of Julie and Chris Fleming of Brantford, and Bradley and Shannon Wilson of Kingston.  Grandmother of Meaghan and Alyson, Joshua and Zachary.  Sister of Jill and Brian Daniels, and Janet Butters, all of England.

 

Susan worked at the McDonald’s restaurant in Listowel for 10 years where she loved her time working with and serving the people of her community.

 

A private family service will be held at Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Friday, September 6th.  Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Beloved husband of Audrey (Russwurm). Loving father of Cherylann (Chris) Young of Ayton, Kim (Brian) Brown of R.R. #1 Elmwood, Kevin (Shannon) of R.R. #1 Elmwood and Ross Jr. of R.R. #1, Hanover. He will be forever cherished by his grandchildren, Charlene, Kyle, Justin, Dustin, Dylan, Devin, Marissa and Madison and great-grandchildren Leeanne, Benjamin and Kaitlyn. Dear brother of Grant of Scone, Harold of Mount Forest, Mel (Karen) of Scone, Margaret (Ed) Yule of Greenock Twp., Freida (Orland) Dippel of Ayton and Eunice (Emerson) Stevenson of Arthur. Sadie HigginbottomHIGGINBOTTOM – Sadie Anne (nee Providenti) of St. Thomas passed away peacefully at Elgin Manor on August 28, 2013 in her 95th year.  Beloved wife of the late Edward John Higginbottom.  Adored mother of Sandra (Bud) Westaway of St. Thomas.  Sadly missed by granddaughters Cynthia (Scott) Westaway-Little of Old Chelsea, Quebec, and their children Tiana and Carly, Elizabeth Westaway of London, and her children Richard Moore, Ginelle Row, Richelle Row, and Genna-Lynne Row; grandson Edward Westaway of Aylmer, and grandson David (Patti) Westaway of St. Thomas, and their children Olivia, Alyssa, and Ian.  Also missed by her siblings Francis (Bill) Wassell and Mary Burrell (the late Wilfred), Lee Providenti (the late Sam), Al Sasso (the late Hazel), Grace Vincent (the late Bob).  Special aunt to Linda (Ken) Hobbs of St. Thomas and Nancy (Don) McCosh of London, and many other loved nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by her parents, Sadie and Frank Providenti;  her great granddaughter Hanna; and Ernest and Lettie Higginbottom, Bill and Tina Benson, Lionel and Beatrice Emberson, Lynn and Grace Daugharty, and Isabel Providenti.  Prior to her retirement, Sadie had been a Social Worker with St. Thomas Association for Community Living.  Her community involvement was extensive, as she was a founding member of the Caring Cupboard, past board member of the St. Thomas Seniors Centre, board member of the Thomas Williams Home, and belonged to Central United Church. Wilma was born in Raleigh Township and was the daughter of the late George and Mary Ronson. Loving wife of 67 years to John Polowick. Wonderful mother to 4 children, Philip (Linda) Polowick, Eloise (David) Williscroft, Sharon (Harold) Pfaff, and Mary Anne (Jim) Patterson. Grandmother to 8 grandchildren, Mary Lynn Pickering (Jamie), Angela Frazee (Adam), Jeremy Pfaff (Cara), Allison Pfaff (Tim), Jonathan Polowick (Heather), Jared Polowick (Michelle), Jacquelyn Patterson and Kathryn Patterson. Great-grandmother to 5 great-grandchildren; Ryan, Josh, Aidan, Alexander and Orion. Sister to Lorena Henderson and June Stewart. Predeceased by her siblings, Eva Ronson, Grace Arnold, Hazel Garrod, Lorna Vickery, George “Burton” Ronson, and Oliveen Ship. She cherished her family and loved spending time with them. Very successful careers in selling Tupperware and Real Estate, as well as teaching piano and organ. Wilma had many special talents. She was an avid musician, achieving her grade 9 in piano and volunteered her time accompanying her husband playing at community events such as Cherry Fest. She played organ at the Trinity Anglican Church for many years. She was a talented artist and many paintings can be found displayed in her and her family’s homes. She loved to spend winters at her winter residence in Florida. She was a woman full of life and zest- always learning new things and dressing to impress. She was a strong role model to those in her life. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Roy Brice of Rondeau Bay Estates passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Monday September 2, 2013.  Roy was born in England 89 years ago to his late parents Ellen & Lawrence Brice.  He served as a Warrant Officer in the Royal Airforce from 1942 – 1946.  In 1958 he moved to Canada.  Before settling in Rondeau Bay Estates his homes included Hamilton, New Zealand and Erieau.  He is survived by his wife Arlette Vermeersch, by his children Roger & Edith Brice of Toronto, Sandra Brice of Vancouver, Shelley & Mike VanOverloop of Chatham and Patricia Vermeersch of Chatham, by his grandchildren Ali Brice, Callum Brice, Alecia & Josh Butzer, Nathan & Kim VanOverloop, his great grandson Levi Butzer and his brother Alec.  He was predeceased by his son Russell, his brother Irving  and his great grand daughter Yvie Butzer.  Roy was a distinguished saxophone player who has recorded music.  He also played with Liberace, Ella Fitzgerald, Walter Ostanek, Milton Beryl and most recently his great grandson Levi.  Roy appreciated life.  He loved nature, fishing, the years of camping in Big Pine Keys, Florida with Arlette and his home in Rondeau Bay Estates.  In keeping with Roy’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  There will be a time of visitation at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home on Friday September 6th from 7 – 9 p.m.  Parish Prayers will be held at 7 p.m.  A Funeral Mass for Roy will be held in St. Mary’s Church on Saturday September 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  Friends wishing to remember Roy with a memorial donation are asked to consider the Arthritis Society.  Online condolences for the family and memorial donations may be left at www.blenheimcommunityfuneralhome.com

ROBERGE: Gilles of Hanover

Roberge-webGilles Roberge, of Hanover, passed away at Hanover and District Hospital on Sunday, September 01, 2013.  He was 79.

Born on August 19, 1934 in Stoke Centre, Quebec to the late Louis and Blanch (nee Dubruile) Roberge. Gilles was a member of the Air Force for 45 years and was a demolition expert.  He also was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Hanover Branch #130.

Survived by wife Arieette (nee Van Holten) St. Onge, his children Patricia Buehler of Calgary Alberta, Gil (Janet) Roberge of Ottawa, Dion (Sandee) Roberge and Allan (Betty) Roberge both of Calgary, Alberta, step children Roger (Barbara) St. Onge of Guelph, Ronald (Lynn) St. Onge, Marian Micks and Marlene St. Onge all of Hanover. Loved by twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also remembered by his brother Vern Roberge of Montreal, sister Louise Langoise of Guelph and by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Andy Roberge.

Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Wednesday, September 04, 2013 from 1:00 pm until time of a Funeral Service at 2:00 pm.  Interment in Holy Family Cemetery, Hanover.

She was born in Dawn Township daughter of the late Clinton and Mary (Davidson) Childs. She was a member of Charlemont Free Methodist Church, Wallaceburg. She will be missed by her loving and devoted husband Rev. Gerald Ellwood Babcock; her son James Babcock (late Barbara) of Tupperville and friend Yvonne Woods, daughters: Carolyn Cornish (Bill) of Wallaceburg, Norma Langstaff of Wallaceburg, Catherine Langstaff (Bruce) of Tupperville, Janice Smith (Randy) of Wallaceburg; 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; sisters Marion Smith (late James) of Chatham, Mary Childs (Late Harold) of Dresden, Mildred Childs(late Ernest) of Tupperville, brothers: Donald Childs (Berneida) and Gord Childs (Fran) both of Wallaceburg. She is predeceased by granddaughter Kimberly Cornish, sister and brother-in-law Evelyn & Lloyd Eves, brother & sister-in-law Morris & Helen Childs-Hess, brothers: Harold & Ernest Childs. Loving mother of Robert & Jean Siddall of Thamesville and Fred & Betty Siddall of Chatham. Cherished grandma of Heather Morton (Chris), Mari Joy Perry (Joe), Eric Siddall (Karen), Jim Siddall (Pam), Mike Siddall and Bill Siddall. Sadly missed by six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Ethel Guppy, Maud Summers and Hattie Kavanagh and brother Fred Hampshire.
