UPPER; Pearl of Listowel

Upper, PearlPearl Upper – passed away peacefully at Caressant Care Nursing Home on Saturday December 21, 2013 at the age of 97.  Pearl was a member of Atwood Presbyterian Church, a life member of the Presbyterian Womens Missionary Society, a charter and life member of the Bruce Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Kincardine and past Noble Grand of Huron Star Rebekah Lodge Ripley.

Beloved wife of the late John Upper who predeceased her in 1991.  Loving mother of John and Marilyn of Ottawa.  Special grandma of Tracey Beaupre and her husband Todd, and Sheri Upper and her husband Neil Wiltshire.  Pearl experienced much love from two great grandchildren, Claire and Cameron Beaupre.  Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews.

Pearl was the last surviving member of her family being predeceased by her brothers George and his wife June Dahmer, Alfred and his wife Dorothy Dahmer and her sister Margaret and her husband Lloyd Sage.

Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at the Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John Street, Atwood (519-356-2382), on Monday December 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 1:30 p.m.  The funeral service to celebrate Pearl’s life will be held at Atwood Presbyterian Church on Tuesday December 24, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Andrew Thompson officiating.  Interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to other family and friends for their many acts of kindness and support during the last few years. Born in Slovakia, Frank was the son of the late Michael and Veronika Bokor. Dear brother to Cecilia Stewart (late Joe), Mike Bokor (Lillian), James Bokor (Gail), Frances Foster (late Charles) and Irene McCarron (Mike). Predeceased by his siblings Mary Istok (Karl), Rose Van Torre (Rene), Vera Bokor, John Bokor (Deanna), Annie Bokor and Emilia Bokor. Also missed by many nieces and nephews. Frank farmed all of his life in Fingal, before retiring to Blenheim. He enjoyed travelling and wintered in Hawaii for many years. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and was an avid bridge player. It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth (Liz) Chakmak announce her passing at the age of 81, peacefully with her family at her side. Beloved wife of 62 years to Louie Chakmak. Much loved mother of Darlene (Ray Chasten) and Linda (David Garlick). Dearest Baba of Lindsay Chasten and Jeffrey Chasten. Beloved sister of Frank (Joan) Geml. Predeceased by parents Peter and Anna Geml, and brother Wilhelm. Liz immigrated to Canada from Molidorf, a small village in Banat, Yugoslavia at the age of 7. In her small kitchen, she prepared some of the finest food in Windsor, which she happily shared with others. Her gifts of Christmas cookie collections were legendary. She revelled in her garden and her grandchildren, and her happiest times were sharing her love of nature with family. Many thanks to her cousin Mary, nieces Maria and Gordana and her dear friend Martha for their support during her illness and to Gisele for her guidance and help. Thanks, also, to the nurses and staff of 3 South Palliative Care, Emara Centre, Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare for their care and compassion over the last three months. Maria is survived by her daughters Carrie Cummings (Alex) of London, Erin Munro (David) of Inwood, and her son Mark (Jani) of London, and her grandchildren Hailey and Thomas.  Also survived by companion Keith Tremaine, and his daughters Janet and Helen, and his son Bryon; sisters Irene, Evelyn and Marilyn.  Maria will also be sadly missed by her brothers Garry Heynsbergen (Cathy) of Parkhill, Jack Heynsbergen (Laurel) of Peachland, B.C., and her sisters Dorothy Koert (Herman) of Wortburg, Ontario, Betty Heynsbergen (Heather Hill) of Stratford, and Mary-Ann McGregor (Jeff) of Hensall, and several nieces and nephews.  Also survived by Ed & Norio Vanderheyden, Leo & Carolyn Vanderheyden, Fran & Al Wilson, all of Forest, Jerry & Helen Vanderydt of Ridgetown, Ken & Margaret Pearson of Stratford, Corry Vanderheyden of Strathroy (late Harry), Toni Vanderheyden of London (late John), and Joanne Potter (late Dennis) of B.C., and many nieces and nephews.

A reunion 30 years in the making. Fun and loving cheerleader to her 19 wonderful grandchildren, their spouses and her 10 amazing great grandchildren. Genie graduated as a registered nurse from Hotel Dieu of St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1950 and devoted a 34 year career to caring for the sick and suffering. She possessed a great passion for life and embraced her ever-changing world. A devoted Mother, Grandmother and GG Ma, Genie was an accomplished artist and held great conviction for her beliefs. She is now reunited with her parents Moze (1972) and Alice (2010). Anita is survived by her sister Yvette and her brothers Bob (Carlene), Leo (Lee) and Paul (Ila). She will also be missed by several nieces, nephews and their families, extended family and numerous friends. Heartfelt thanks to the medical and support staff at Met Hospital for the tremendous care, compassion and dignity shown to Anita during her most difficult time. Beloved brother of Grace (Don) Ducharme, Norma (Phil) Hebert. Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law Stanley and Lucille Cecile, Roy and Olivia Cecile, Arnold and Denise Cecile, Edward (Linda) Cecile, Robert Cecile, Carol (Michael) Rossell, Elaine and Len Sylvestre, Margaret and Kenneth Beaumont and Annette Rossell. Predeceased by his parents Ralph and Sara Kirby, brother Keith (Florence) Kirby, sister Marion (Robert) Laurier, son-in-law of the late Raymond and Ida Cecile, brother-in-law of Roger Cecile, Donald Cecile, Malvina (Paul) Blais, Delores (Walter) Adam, Carl Cecile and Genevieve High. Lloyd also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.  Lloyd loved nature. He enjoyed working in his yard, tending to his flowers as well as hunting and fishing. His greatest joy came from family gatherings and watching his grandchildren play hockey, baseball, football, and soccer. His passion was mold making. Lloyd was well respected and a leader in the industry. He was employed at I.T.L for 29 years. In 1985, he founded Kirby Tool and Mold. Many of his retirement years were spent travelling with his wife. A special thank you to doctors and staff on the 4th and 7th floors of Hotel Dieu. Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the age of 64, at Hospice Simcoe. At his side were his beloved son Spencer, his daughter Krista and his dog Stella.

Moe emigrated from Belgium in 1954 with his mother Karoline Jankowski and called Port Credit home for many early years. Moe will be lovingly remembered by friends, family and his extended brothers at the Sheet Metal Workers Union – Local 30.

Archie was the beloved husband of Bonnie, dear father of Marjorie (Randy), Marilyn, and stepfather of Margaret and Ron. Archie was the son of the late Ethel (Colson) and Archie Sowman Sr.

Fondly remembered by his sister Pauline (Ed), brother James (Joy), brother-in-law Bob and his Aunt Ruth. He was grandfather of four, and great-grandfather of 3, as well as having many nieces and nephews. Archie was predeceased by sister Grace, and son-in-law Terry. Before health issues slowed him down, Bonnie and Archie travelled across Canada (east to west), the United States, and Alaska in their motor home. Bonnie is left with wonderful memories and pictures of their travels. Archie had his own business (Sowman Electric), and took great pride in being able to provide electrical services to Muskoka residents and cottagers for over thirty years.

Cremation has already taken place. Internment and remembrance gathering to take place in Spring of 2014.

Dunn: Derek Patton (Pat) of Sarnia

Passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 19, 2013, DEREK PATTON (PAT) DUNN, age 57, of Sarnia. Predeceased by his parents Orval (Pat) Dunn (1994) and Mary Louise (nee Prenatt) Dunn (1989). Will be missed by his siblings; Michael Dunn and his wife Gladys, Earla Suzanne Strangway and her husband Mike, William Dunn and his wife Cheryl , Ermund Paul Dunn and his wife Helen, Anthony John Dunn and his wife Liz, Geoff Dunn and his partner Gail, all of Sarnia. Also survived by his many nieces and nephews and predeceased by his nieces Alice Jeanne Corman – Dunn (1989) and Sherri Lee (Dunn)(Jewer) Kelly (2004). Cremation has taken place and services will be announced at a later date. Sympathy may be expressed through memorial donations to Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.  Arrangements entrusted to the D.J. Passed on December 18, 2013 at home surrounded by loving family.  Beloved husband of Deborah, loving father of Kyle, Casey (Daryn McFarlane).  Most dedicated and proud grampa of Liam.  Son of Jean (2002) and Sam (1963) Wallace.  Dear brother of Erma Hickmott (James), Joanne Steckley (Wayne Petite), Donald (Joanne), Lynn Eagan and Paul.  Dear son-in-law of Jack Marshall, dear brother-in-law of Kirsten (Brian Raas), Susan (Harold Griggs).  Special uncle to many nieces and nephews.  Tom worked for Heinz for 37 years.  Tom was an avid outdoorsman; he loved fishing, camping and walking.  Tom was best known for his kind and compassionate nature. Cremation has taken place in Windsor.  Friends will be received at the C. McDONALD: Alan Robert of London

McDONALD, Alan Robert – Died in his 85th year on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 18th, 2013 in London. Beloved husband of Joan Martha McDonald for 60 years. Loving father of Randall (Mary), Terry (Linda Donovan), Rob (Susan) and Scott (Antoinette Ouellette). Dear Grandpa of Michael, Rob (Jillian), Mark (Karna) and Andrew McDonald, Christopher and Jason McDonald, Sarah, Emily and Scott McDonald, Alycia and Matthew McDonald and great-grandpa of Lauren. He will be sadly missed by his sisters-in-law Olive Frame and Mary McDonald, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Curt. Alan was born in Winnipeg, moved to Montreal to start his married life, and then moved to Ottawa, where his four sons were born, and then moved to Oakville and finally London. He was an avid skier and golfer, and a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Y’s Men, and volunteered in many capacities at the United Church. The memorial service will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Sunday, December 22nd, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation and interment has taken place.
