Posted by on January 15, 2014

John at Bluewater Health Sarnia on Saturday, January 11, 2014 and Mary at Vision Nursing Home on Tuesday January 14, 2014. Both passed away peacefully into the arms of their Lord and Saviour. John and Mary were married at Temple Baptist church in Sarnia on Sept 8, 1951 and shared 62 wonderful years together. They adored and loved each other with all their hearts and were shining examples of what love, marriage, family, and commitment represent. Family was everything for John and Mary. They will be deeply missed by their sons Jeff (Susan) and David, cherished grandchildren Jessica (Matt) Tweedie, Caity (Dan) Galbraith, Matthew (Jenny) Blake, Justin Nicholas, Adam Nicholas, and Spencer Nicholas, special great grandchild Jack Thomas Tweedie and son-in-law Steven Blake. They were predeceased by their loving daughter Carole Anne Blake (2006) and son Douglas John (1963). Mary is survived by her loving sister Rita Marshall and loving brother David Hopkins, predeceased by sister Dolena Davies, brother John Hopkins and mother and father Rachel and Evan Hopkins. John is predeceased by his mother and father, Dorothy and Jim Nicholas. John retired from Dow Chemical Canada in 1993 after 37 years of dedicated service and also served in the British Merchant Navy from 1944 to 1948. He was an aviation and nautical enthusiast and loved to read. Mary was always very active in the church and church groups. Mary will always be remembered by many as school secretary for Queen Elizabeth Public School (Sarnia) from 1962 through 1971. Most importantly, Mom was always there for us at home when we needed her most. Mom and Dad loved to travel but were always happiest around family and friends, especially BBQ’s, holidays, and special family gatherings. Most importantly, they loved and served the Lord and were active members of Temple Baptist Church and Huron Baptist Church. Their passion for life, loving smiles, wisdom, and sense of humour will be sorely missed by all that knew them. Their enduring love, encouragement, care and support for loved ones will always be remembered. Visitation for John and Mary will be at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Thursday, January 16, 2014, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at Huron Baptist Church, 1285 Michigan Ave., Sarnia, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014.
