Sherman, Deborah Susan (nee Duguid) age 63 of Corunna passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on Monday August 4, 2014 after a courageous three year battle with cancer. Adored wife of 33 years to Tom. Cherished Mom and best friend to Kate (Wes) of Point Edward. Loving daughter of Vi and the late Stan Duguid of Windsor. Deb will be missed by her sisters, Wendy (late Kenny) and Jamie (Rick) of Windsor. Pre-deceased by her brothers, David and Danny and brother-in-law, Bill. Treasured sister-in-law to Jack and Marianna of Corunna, Dan and Cathy of Waterloo, and Maria of Sardinia, Italy. Admired by many nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and close friends. Deb loved the simple pleasures in life: feeding and watching the birds, being with her family at the cottage, walking on the beach skipping stones, a good card game and a cold beer. She also had a special place in her heart for all animals. Deb’s final wishes were made possible by the incredible care and compassion provided by Ann Wallace and Kristen Friesen of VON under the kind-hearted guidance of Dr. Monique Dostaler. Beloved wife of the late John Groendyk (1994) and loving mother of Alida (2009) and Ed Hightower, Anne and Arnie Toenders, Art and Shirley Groendyk, John and Pat Groendyk, Cathy and John Sipkens, Joyce and Rick Hultink and Margaret and John Noorloos. Cherished grandmother of 30 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. It is with deeply saddened hearts that the family of John Dillon announces his passing at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Mary for 64 years. Loving father of Linda (Barrie) Randall. Cherished grandfather of John Joseph, Carla, Jason (Alayna), Justin (Katie), Shana, Summer and J.D. John was born in Scotland and was a Sarnia Policeman for 31 ½ years where he later became Staff Sergeant in the Traffic Division. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed playing darts. It is with great sadness that Deanna Odolphy and family announce the passing of her father Donald Robert Turnbull, at Bluewater Health, Petrolia site on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Don is survived by his daughter Deanna, her husband Chris Odolphy and their children Olivia and Ashlyn. He is survived by siblings Keith (Pirjo) Turnbull and Mary (Ken) Roy. He leaves Bob Smith (Dorothy Knight), Dorothy (Ray) Alexander, Sharon Smith, Ralph Smith, Catherine (Don) Wardell, Karen Smith and Carol (Terry) McCullough to remember him as a dear brother in-law. Don was predeceased by his beloved wife Darlene (Smith) 5 years earlier. He was predeceased by his father Calvin Turnbull and mother Isabelle (Park) and step-mother Grace (Mitchell) and in-laws Ken Smith, Ron Smith, Mary Lou Smith and Ross Smith. He leaves numerous nieces and nephews to remember him. Don was a long time employee of Dow Chemical and retirement suited him fine. He missed Darlene very much but Deanna and Chris provided two lovely young girls Olivia and Ashlyn that he was so proud of. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Proud grandfather of Tara Norley-Gagliardi (Stephen) of Stratford and Amanda Norley of London; and great-grampy to Madilyn Mickle. Born in Bell Ewart, Ontario, and formerly of Barrie, Ernie enlisted at the age of 18 in the army, serving his country proudly for 30 years in the 1st Battalion RCR. Ernie then worked as a Sheriff’s Officer, in London, for another 18 years. He was a former member of the Chatham Kiltie Band and later formed his own orchestra called the Mello-Tones. Harold enjoyed golf and coached in the Chatham minor baseball system. He was so good looking I went for a walk. The Creator called my name to come home, so now I am walking down the eternal road. Unfortunately, I’m leaving behind my wonderful daughter Alysha who gave me the most talented granddaughter, Brooklyn, my courageous baby boy Dustin, my wonderful partner Mark, my spiritual sister Libby and my most connected cousin Liz. I am also survived by my recently found birth father Albert King, by my youngest sister Jeannette, and incubator, Florence. I was predeceased by my dad, Allen Davies, and my sister Anna-Marie. In keeping with my wishes, cremation has taken place, and a special “Wednesday with Sally” gathering will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 6th from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 265 Wellington St., St. Thomas. Donna Veral Gray of Morpeth passed away on Friday August 1, 2014 at the age of 66 years.  Donna was the best friend and wife of Jim Gray, the mother of Kelly Hetherington (Greg), Mike Gray (Kerri) and grandmother of Mason, Liam, Madison and Maxx.  Born in Guysborough Nova Scotia, Donna was one of seven children to her parents Bernadette (Murphy) and the late Harvey Hadley.  She is survived by her siblings Shawn Hadley (Diane) of Guysborough NS, Jerry Hadley of Truro NS, Billy Hadley (Barb) of Guysborough NS, Bevin Hadley (Anne) of Toronto and Carolyne Hadley of Port Stanley ON as well as her sister in law Peggy Hadley of Truro NS.  Also survived by her nieces Kim and Karen and by her nephews Jeffrey, Phillip and Adam.  Predeceased by her brother Teddy in 2002.  Donna will be remembered for many things in life including owning Serena’s Ladieswear in Blenheim for 25 years, her passion for cooking, travelling and entertaining but maybe most of all for the love she had for her family and for the part of her that never really left her childhood home of Nova Scotia.  Friends and family are invited to gather at the Blenheim Community Funeral Home for visitation on Tuesday from 6 – 9 p.m.  A Funeral Service will be held in St. Mary’s Church on Wednesday August 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.  Cremation to follow.  Friends wishing to remember Donna with a memorial donation are asked to consider The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (Ontario Region).  Online condolences for the family and memorial donations may be left at www.blenheimcommunityfuneralhome.com

Rita Marie DeMaeyer of Blenheim passed away at Copper Terrace Nursing Home on Friday August 1, 2014.  Rita was born in Tilbury North Township 92 years ago to her late parents Delia & Dusty Martin.  She always wore a smile, had a contagious laugh and showed much determination in everything she did.  With the help of her husband Joe DeMaeyer who predeceased her in 1998, Rita ran an upholstery shop outside of Blenheim.  She is survived by her siblings Edna Armstrong, Marie Abrams and Gerald & Irene Martin, by her children Pat & Ron Lloyd, Mary & John Blythe, Alice Demers, Doreen & Bob Larabie, Rose & Bob Rose, Shelley & Bill Montgomery, Bev & Pam DeMaeyer and Joe & Shari DeMaeyer as well as by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Trevor Edward Albert Hayes 36, of Sarnia passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2014.

 

Trevor is survived by his loving parents Bruce and Debbie Hayes of Brigden; his sister Heather (Ian) Brown and  nephew Ethan Brown. He is also survived by uncles Raymond Jolly and Ron (Tina) Jolly; aunts Brenda (Don) Bromaroff; Mona Jolly and Gloria (Rob) Wright; godmother Barbara Lassaline; stepbrothers AJ and Adam Hayes; several cousins and longtime friends.

 

He is preceded in death by his twin brother Timothy James and his grandparents James and Vera Jolly; Rose and James Hayes.

German EditedWith her family at her side, Jean peacefully passed on Friday, August 1st, 2014, in her 88th year. We feel sorrow at the loss of such a wonderful woman, but we move forward with gratitude and gratefulness for all she has taught us – and all we have grown to be – is because of her. “Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother, Aunt and Friend.” Predeceased by her husband James Wilfred (Jerry) in December 1979, Jean is survived by her 4 children: David German (Brenda Campbell), Kathy Hickling (Reg Gordon), Donna Maes (Ken Maes) and Cindy Denstedt. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Andrew Denstedt (Agata Kubiak), Jenna (Denstedt) Lutchin and husband Justin, Jamie Maes and wife Andrea, Sarah Jean (Maes) Mantler and husband Mike, Matthew Hickling (Sara Peters), Melanie Lavery (Jim Dodge), Alyscia Gordon (Tyler Harker), Brent German (Victoria Condotta) and Nathan German (Sara Haley); and by her 6 great grandchildren: Ethan, Nathan, Jace, Fiona, Ella and Ava. Suddenly at F.C.H.S. Newbury on Friday August 1, 2014. James Ian McCallum Of R.R. 1 Dutton in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Dorothy [Paton] McCallum. Loving father of Robert and Maureen McCallum of Kitchener, Stuart and Heather McCallum of Dutton, Arlene McCallum of London, Fraser and Debbie McCallum of Iona Station. HILL: Clayton of Hanover

Clayton Hill, of Hanover, passed away at Hanover and District Hospital on Saturday, August 02, 2014.   He was 81.

Born on September 18, 1932 in Carrick Township to the late Ezra and Katherine (nee Lantz) Hill.  Clayton was employed with P&H Foods for 24 years before beginning his retirement.

Survived by children Judy (Paul) Russwurm of Mildmay, Fay Hill of Hanover, Lorette (Terry) WIlliamson of Harriston, Kevin (Jeanette) Hill of Palmerston and Cleon (Charlotte) Hill of Walkerton, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  Also survived by his sister Selma Pries of Hanover.  Predeceased by his wife Eva (nee Connolly) Hill and son Keith Clayton Hill.

Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 06, 2014 at 11:00 am, at St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Hanover. Rev. John Polacok officiating. Interment in St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery, Neustadt.

Dear grandmother of Elizabeth Perfrement (Rod) of Wyoming, Ontario, Cheryl Hicks ( Kevin) , Carol Condie  of Sarnia, Emily Condie and her husband the late Michael Condie, Jim Cribbin, John Cribbin, Jason Cribbin, Jeff Cribbin and Patrick Hillis and step grandchildren Wanda Baxter, Wayne Robertson (Connie), Dennis Robertson (Karen), Paul Robertson (Laurie), Dave Robertson and  many great – grandchildren. Will be missed by her brother Jack Knudsen and his wife Tiny and sister in-law Dorothy Knudsen and the late Stu Knudesn. Peacefully on July 31, 2014 at the age of 94. Cherished husband and best friend of the late Edith (2008). Dearest father of the late Allan (1973). Beloved grandfather of Trisha Bondy and husband Brad, and great-grandfather to Riley Graves. Dear brother of Albert and wife Ruth Jennings of St. Catharines. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Ed was a veteran of W.W. II R.C.N.V.R. (1941-1946). He was a retired printer from The Windsor Star after 25 years of service and a member of the W. T. U.
