It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Blackwell of Chelmsford, ON. The loving wife of Cecil Ernest Blackwell of 68 years, Catherine Hart Blackwell passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Health Sciences North in Sudbury, ON at the age of 88.
Catherine Hart Carter was born on December 26, 1927 to John (Jack) and Frances Carter in Cochrane, ON. She was born the second eldest child, the eldest daughter of 4 children. Catherine is pre-deceased by her parents and her siblings, Hilliard (Aileen) Carter of Cochrane, ON; Bess (Matthew) Gant of Timmins; and Fred (Jean) Carter of Surrey BC,.
She is survived by her loving husband, Cecil Blackwell and their 5 children. Sparkie (Garfield) MacVeigh of Delta, BC; Dick (Nancy) of Haileybury, ON; Bess (David Pearson) of Naughton, ON; Rory of Chelmsford, ON; and Andrew (Bett) of Chelmsford, ON. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Catherine and Cec spent most of their married life in Haileybury where they raised their children. Catherine loved to curl and play bridge and loved being on the computer. Her grandchildren called her “cyber grandma” as she was always using the computer to keep in touch with her family. Catherine loved to travel and her ventures took her many places around the world. A highlight of hers was when she travelled the Trans-Siberian Railway from Moscow to Beijing, China and visited Machu Pichu in Peru, and the Galapagos Islands, and toured the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. to name a few places.
Catherine is lovingly remembered and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at St. Stephen’s United Church, 137 Charlotte Street, Chelmsford, ON at 11:00 am. A time of refreshments will be held after the service.
