NICHOLS POWELL, Mrs. Carol May (nee Deverell), of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, September 7, 2014, in her 80th year. Wife of the late Norman M. Nichols (1987) and the late William Powell (2013). Dearly loved mother of Michael Nichols (Evelyn) of Winnipeg, MB, Wayne Nichols (Janice) of St. Thomas, Lorene Gillmore (Duncan) of Edmonton, AB, and Patty Hiepleh (Michael) of St. Thomas. Proud grandmother of Owen, Mark, Greg, Savannah, Scott, John, Callen, Mary, Megan, and Kevin. Dear sister of Gerald Deverell (Marge) of Trenton. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Born in St. Thomas, May 29, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Dorothy (nee Robins) Deverell. Carol was a former member of the Sweet Adelines for a number of years and an avid knitter. She took great pleasure in knitting sweaters and outfits for her grandchildren. Carol won many awards at the Western Fair, for her knitted pieces through the years. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held at Elmdale Memorial Park. Memorial donations to the charity of one’s choice gratefully acknowledged.
